Background and History

Mingde Hall and Ye Fan

Kong Deming is Jing Hongchen’s teacher and Ye Fan’s grandmaster. As head of the Sun Moon Empire’s Consecration Hall, he intervenes after the Holy Ghost Cult attacks Mingde Hall and targets Ye Fan. He forces Zhongli Wu to sever an arm, swear never to target Ye Fan again, and submit under the threat of the Royal Soul Engineer Corps. 24

When Long Xiaoyao arrives to rescue Zhongli Wu, Kong Deming’s defensive barrier withstands the black dragon’s assault. He eventually permits the cult members to leave after receiving an explanation, but warns Zhongli Wu that another violation of his oath will bring harsher consequences. 25

Kong Deming becomes interested in Ye Fan after learning that he possesses spatial power. Entering the Undead Demiplane causes the sun and moon’s power to accelerate its evolution; Kong’s own spatial power consequently reaches the beginner stage. He then remains in the demiplane to study the God-Sealing Platform and the Snow Empress Soul Beast Embryo. 26 27

Soul Spirit Research

After receiving the Soul Beast-to-Soul Spirit Method, Kong Deming recognizes its potential to replace the traditional hunting of Soul Beasts for Soul Rings. He successfully researches the method and insists that Ye Fan’s long-term future is more important than obtaining an ordinary fourth Soul Ring in time for the Continental Soul Master Tournament. 27

He first confirms the method through a successful experiment involving a prisoner and a low-level Soul Beast. Furious over the loss of Mingde Hall’s research, he prepares to personally lead three hundred Rank-7 Royal Soul Engineers against the Body Sect. 87

Ye Fan persuades Kong Deming and Jing Hongchen to delay the campaign long enough to forge and refine the Heaven and Earth Creation Pill. Kong assists in producing the Rank-9 alchemy Soul Tool furnace and becomes convinced of the pill’s value when its fragrance causes Xiao Hongchen and Meng Hongchen to break through. 88

After Du Busi confirms that Shrek Academy helped orchestrate the raid on Mingde Hall, Kong Deming leads the surviving forces toward Shrek.
