Xie Chen turned his head and lazily glanced at Xie Jinran, the corner of his lips curling up. "You've been slapped in the face so many times, and it still doesn't hurt?! Are your nerves numb?"
[Maybe his face is paralyzed, so getting slapped in the face doesn't hurt!]
[Hahahaha, netizens these days really get the memes! Even if there isn't one, they'll make one themselves!]
[I don't have any other hobbies. I just love plot twists and watching people get slapped in the face. Brother Chen, don't hold back, please continue!]
[Are you guys insane upstairs?! Xie Chen was just spouting nonsense, and you actually believed him?! The director already stressed that the farm fertilizer had been fermented beforehand. What kind of superpower does he have that lets him tell with one look?!]
[I also think this is a little exaggerated. This show makes Xie Chen seem omnipotent, even though he's clearly never lived in the countryside. Where did he get all this experience? Fine, maybe he got lucky once or twice, but compared to him, I believe Xie Ran more. After all, he was trafficked before.]
[Pfft, believing Xie Ran is worse than believing pigs can climb trees!]
[...]
The barrage argued until everyone was red in the face, their keyboards clacking away furiously.
The atmosphere on-site was equally tense, and before anyone realized it, the group had split into two camps.
"Brother Xie Chen, stop forcing yourself. Once the sun comes out, the smell of the farm fertilizer will spread even faster," Xie Ran said, covering his nose with his voice pitched high and thin. "No one will be able to stand it then."
Xie Jinran eagerly chimed in, "What slapping faces?! Can't you have some team spirit?! Why do you always try to create conflict? What's wrong with you?! Forget about him, let's get started first!"
As he spoke, he called over the other guests, intending to use the group's pressure to force Xie Chen into backing down.
Yet he discovered that everyone seemed not to have heard his call at all, standing where they were without moving an inch.
Meanwhile, Xie Chen ignored the two brothers. He crouched down on his own and began digging through the soil with his bare hands, as though searching for something.
"Do you really believe him?!" Xie Jinran asked unwillingly. "I've raised him for so many years. Wouldn't I know what he's capable of?! Someone who even failed university classes is seriously talking nonsense..."
"Xie Jinran, enough already," Li Jingfei, the eldest and an award-winning actress, cut him off at last. "You know Xie Chen is your adopted younger brother too, don't you?! It's one thing not to speak up for him, but you're going to belittle him like this?!"
"Has the Xie Family always been this cold-blooded and heartless?!"
Xie Jinran stared in astonishment.
He had never expected to be criticized in public.
Cold-blooded and heartless?!
Clearly, Xie Chen was the one who didn't know gratitude!
His grades had been bad to begin with, yet he still insisted on showing off and ordering everyone around!
What had Xie Jinran said wrong?!
Xie Jinran felt that his good intentions had been mistaken for ill will. In a fit of anger, he stopped explaining and turned to Xie Ran. "Forget those ungrateful people. Let's get to work first!"
Although the village chief had personally demonstrated it the night before, the two brothers were still clumsy as ever, struggling to fertilize the field while carrying buckets.
The other guests gathered around Xie Chen and asked curiously, "What are you doing?"
"Catching earthworms."
"????" The guests were full of questions, each wearing the expression of a curious child. "What are you catching earthworms for?!"
Xie Chen picked up a long, red earthworm.
The other guests quickly backed away. "Get that away from us! That's disgusting!"
Xie Chen smiled unconcernedly, then tossed the earthworm into the farm fertilizer. "If you put this little thing into the fertilizer and it dies, it means it hasn't fermented properly. If it moves slowly, it means it's half-fermented. Only if it can burrow in and out freely and quickly can you say this bucket of fertilizer has fully fermented."
"Besides that, you also need to observe the change in color." His gaze remained fixed on the fertilizer, and after a pause, he added another point.
Suddenly, Luo Mingyu looked surprised. "Look, look! The earthworm moved. Isn't it pretty slow?! It looks like it just thawed out!"
"That means this bucket of farm fertilizer is half-fermented?!" Wei Mingqi had learned to answer first as well.
Just as the guests were still deeply engrossed in biology, an urgent voice suddenly called out from behind them, growing closer and closer.
"Kids! You took the wrong ones! Those buckets of farm fertilizer haven't fermented yet!"
Everyone turned around in unison and saw the village chief hurrying toward them in a panic.
Xie Jinran and Xie Ran also straightened up at the same time. Clearly, they had heard the village chief's words, and neither of them looked very good.
What did that mean?!
Had Xie Chen really guessed right?!
The village chief finally ran over. Before he could speak, Xie Chen gave him a reproachful look. "Old man, your back is already bad. You can't do strenuous exercise. After all, one consultation costs a hundred thousand."
Hearing that, Xie Jinran's face darkened even further.
That guy really never forgot to take a jab at someone!
The village chief smiled foolishly. "Got it, kid. I'll be careful next time. I was just in a hurry to get over here, afraid you'd ruin the field with it."
He glanced ahead. "Good, good. You haven't fertilized yet."
Suddenly, the village chief froze. "An earthworm?! Who put that in there?! You actually know this old method?!"
[Hahahaha, who else could it be?! The omnipotent Brother Chen, of course!]
[I didn't expect the face-slapping to come so quickly! Hahahaha, this is exactly the kind of plot I love!]
[Which paid commenter just said they believed Xie Ran?! One sister put it perfectly: believing Xie Ran is like believing pigs can climb trees!]
[I always feel like Brother Chen has such strong "practical" experience. Why were his university grades so bad?! Shouldn't he be good at everything if he understands one thing so thoroughly?!]
[If you allow people with high grades and low ability, why can't there be people with high ability and low grades?! Grades are just stepping stones. They can't represent everything.]
[I don't want to say anything else. I just want to ask, are the task fields belonging to the two Xie brothers completely ruined now?!]
The village chief finally noticed the two people fertilizing the field, and his expression became extremely complicated. "Y-you two... Sigh, forget it. The seedlings won't grow anyway!"
He felt heartbroken, but there was no way to save it. He could only let it live or die on its own.
Li Jingfei gave the two brothers a mocking smile. "This is what you called seriously talking nonsense?!"
"Good thing we didn't listen to you two, or we would've been completely screwed!" Wei Mingqi added.
Luo Mingyu gave a cold snort. "You should learn from me on this point. I've never given either of them the time of day!"
Li Sifan crossed his arms. "No one in the Xie Family is mentally normal."
As he spoke, he remembered something and immediately turned to Xie Chen. "Good thing you cut ties with them."
"Don't go too far!" Xie Jinran finally snapped. He threw down his bucket and stepped out of the task field. "You deliberately set us up, didn't you?!"
"This show can't be filmed anymore!"
Xie Ran had not expected things to turn out this way. He called out anxiously, "Third Brother, wait for me!"
Even as he shouted, he apologized to everyone around him. "Sorry, sorry. I'll go talk him down."
He blinked innocently, as though none of the conflict had anything to do with him and Xie Jinran had merely become embarrassed and angry, impulsively quitting the show...
