History

Ambush was first identified as one of four skills possessed by a Level 3 Iron Bristle Wild Boar. The boar used it to detect Gan Ming's approach, ram him into a tree, and stun him for one second during their first fight. 11

After Gan Ming killed two more boars, he successfully Soul Snatched Ambush from the first corpse. He immediately activated it as his fourth available skill slot, using it to open fights with a charge and brief stun. 13 14

The skill became a core part of Gan Ming's woodland combat sequence: Ambush created enough opening for several sword strikes and a Fanged Charge before opponents could retaliate. It also interrupted Tree Spirits while they attempted to cast Rotten Root Entanglement. 14

In the Ruins Zone, Ambush's upgraded boar phantom became a movement tool as well as an attack. Gan Ming used it to reverse the momentum of a Grayrock Giant Lizard's Tail Sweep, propelling himself from knockback directly back into the target. 27 He later combined it with Swift Dash to evade Xiao Jing's assassination attempt and incapacitate him with a high-speed charge. 34

Abilities & Skills

Charge and Stun

Ambush launches its user at a target, dealing physical damage, knocking the target back or airborne, and applying a stun. 11 13

  • Base effect — 1-second stun, 15-second cooldown, and 10 Mana cost. 11
  • Enhanced effect — At +6, the stun lasts 2.5 seconds and the cooldown is reduced to 13 seconds. 28
  • Visual manifestationGan Ming's activation creates a gray, boar-shaped phantom ahead of him. 23
  • Opening attacks — Creates a window for Gan Ming to land basic attacks and trigger Fanged Charge before a stunned enemy recovers. 14
  • Control chaining — Can follow Rotten Root Entanglement or exploit an enemy's post-control vulnerability. 27
  • Mobility use — Its propulsion can counteract knockback and rapidly close distance. 27
  • Combo potential — Stacking Ambush with Swift Dash greatly increases Gan Ming's engagement speed. 34
  • Limitation — It costs Mana and occupies an active slot, eventually losing priority to stealth, teleportation, and passive defense in Gan Ming's Tunnel Zone Seven build. 48

Notable Uses

  • Iron Bristle Wild BoarsGan Ming uses Ambush to knock charging boars off balance, then follows with repeated sword attacks. 14
  • Rustclaw Hound — An Ambush +4 charge sends a Level 11 hound into a ruined wall and stuns it for two seconds. 23
  • Grayrock Giant LizardGan Ming cancels his own airborne knockback by activating Ambush mid-flight, then crashes into the lizard's head. 27
  • Red-armored Elite Giant Scorpion — Ambush +6 staggers and stuns the Elite Giant Scorpion, allowing Gan Ming to attack its tail. 30
  • Xiao JingGan Ming combines Swift Dash and Ambush +6 to strike the assassin after evading Shadowstep, dealing 224 damage and stunning him. 34

Trivia
