My own child's birth earned me twenty draws and one item: the Feather of Return.
Even Mash's origins were counted under my name. Although I strongly insisted that she was not my child and had none of my genes, the system was simply giving too much—twenty draws.
Special item, Feather of Return: Effect 1, Feathering. One feather could naturally fall off each day, up to a maximum of 999.
Effect 2, Return. Each feather allowed its user to immediately return to the Feather of Return's location, provided they were in the same space. Distance could be ignored. Each feather had a thirty-day cooldown after use.
Effect 3, Perception. The Feather of Return could sense the location of every feather and could also actively summon them.
Effect 4, Remote Retrieval. After a feather's location was set, it could be retrieved remotely.
It seemed to be an item meant to save family members' lives, and it could also be seen as a summoning item. Very nice. And it never said it had to be used by someone related by blood. Could I give it to strangers too? I'd try it later.
Sixty draws. After saving up for so long, it was finally time for a big burst. Draw, draw, draw.
Sixty flashes of golden light passed by. With enough quantity piled up, there were still some good things, such as:
A-rank skill, Unity of Hardness and Softness. When using fists and kicks as weapons, the Hard state increased attack power by 30%, while the Soft state added a 30% armor-breaking effect to attacks.
With this skill, I wouldn't have been unable to damage the Bicorn back in Spirit Tomb Albion.
Master-level medical expertise. You had complete mastery over medicine from every era and region, ancient and modern, East and West. Whether it was the four diagnostic methods of traditional medicine or the data from Western medical instruments, you could use them with ease. You were already a towering authority in the medical world. If you improved further, you might rival certain figures from the Age of Gods.
A-rank item, Hint Scroll. When you entered certain events and found yourself at a loss, opening it would grant you a hint. Each event could only use it once.
I roughly understood it. It was basically a dungeon hint item. As for where those dungeons were and when they would appear, I had no idea. The system wouldn't talk, and I couldn't get any answers out of it.
S-rank item, Character Copy Card. Effect: Select a target below the level of a god and copy all of their attributes, status, and abilities. It could then be applied to oneself for five minutes.
If it had come earlier, I would have copied Gilgamesh and stolen all the good stuff from his Gate of Babylon.
S-rank skill, Imagine Breaker. When actively used, it erased one abnormal status below the god level, including magecraft, curses, control, seals, and so on. Cooldown: three days.
Its function was pretty similar to the real Imagine Breaker, except it had gone from passive to active and gained a cooldown. Fine, calling that "pretty similar" was ridiculous. It had been weakened by who knew how much.
SS-rank item, Heart of Courage. Once equipped, it granted immunity to all fear-based entities. It allowed one to look directly at unseen things without being assimilated or altered. Cthulhu again. Though some creatures from beyond certain domains could indeed be classified as Cthulhu-related, right?
Those were the only rewards from sixty pulls worth noticing. Knowing the system's habits, they would probably, maybe, likely end up being useful.
Mash's Observation Diary:
November 3, 1995. Mash Kyrielight's first month after birth. Her health was good. She was very sleepy, and despite wearing diapers, she wet the bed three times this month. This had to be properly recorded.
To celebrate Mash's one-month anniversary, I added extra dishes to the meals for all of Chaldea.
December 3, 1995. Mash Kyrielight had grown sturdily in her second month. She was adorable when she smiled and very loud when she cried. She was still very sleepy, but she wet the bed once less than last month. That was progress and had to be recorded.
To celebrate Mash turning two months old, I added extra dishes to the meals for all of Chaldea.
December 31, 1995. Mash Kyrielight was three days away from turning three months old. Unfortunately, tomorrow was New Year's, so I had to return home today. My own little Ping'an needed company too. I'd come see you again next year, little Mash.
Because of me, the extra meal that everyone in Chaldea had been looking forward to was canceled. Everyone was very disappointed. My extra meals were twice as good as usual.
When I returned to the Genji Estate, everyone was preparing New Year decorations. I looked at little Ping'an. He was eight months old now, growing up fair and clean. According to Aoi, he could already call her Mama. He was a little genius.
I suddenly thought of something and, taking advantage of no one being around, said to my son, "Heavenly king covers earthly tiger. Brother, are you a transmigrator too?"
Then the baby started crying. A whole group of people rushed over when they heard him crying, pushed me aside, and said I didn't know how to take care of children. I walked away awkwardly and declared that I would remember this grudge.
The three-day New Year holiday had barely ended before my busy life began again. I was once more running between three places. The Feather of Return seemed to have no effect when only I used it. That was frustrating. I couldn't use it as a quick return-to-town item.
I gave a feather to everyone connected to me and told them how to use it, as well as not to use it unless absolutely necessary. These feathers had cooldowns.
I teased my son, checked on the three little ones' studies, observed little Mash, and the days passed one by one.
Another two years passed. Shiki was eighteen, and we were getting married.
Everything was progressing as expected, and the future would remain in my hands.
