Background / History

Founding and original purpose

Chaldea was established in Antarctica after the 1950 development of the Phenomenon Recording Computer Familiar, Laplace. Built beyond national interference, it was intended to securely observe Earth and prepare for extinction-level threats to human history 34 40.

Its researchers combine magecraft and science because neither discipline alone can fully observe the world. Although various nations jointly funded the project, the Animusphere Family and London's Mage's Association provided roughly 70% of its financing, leaving Marisbury Animusphere's family in severe financial difficulty 34.

The early development schedule included the first Chaldeas prototype in 1990, the Near-Future Observation Lens: Sheba in 1999, and an artificial body intended for Heroic Spirit fusion in 2000 40.

Yuan Shikai's takeover

Marisbury sought outside funding to restart Chaldeas and offered the directorship to Yuan Shikai in exchange for investment. Yuan accepted only after demanding a formal proposal and expense breakdown, treating Chaldea as insurance against humanity's possible extinction rather than a profit venture 34.

The resulting contract made the Genji Clan responsible for development costs, suspended in-house work on Chaldeas and Sheba, and gave Yuan directorial authority with absolute veto power. Marisbury became deputy director 41.

At the handover ceremony, Chaldea had 323 employees. Yuan created a Personnel Administration Department to vet incoming staff and serve as his liaison, while prioritizing Heroic Spirit-human fusion research 41.

Reinforcement before the incineration crisis

Under Yuan's administration, Chaldea expanded its facilities and prepared for internal sabotage. Fire-suppression systems, additional generator rooms, reinforced Spiritron transfer coffins, upgraded combat uniforms, and hidden duplicate facilities were installed; Chaldeas and Sheba were excluded from duplication and their concealed backups were placed at the facility's outer edge 62 65.

When Lev Lainur Flauros detonated the central facilities, the upgrades prevented the expected mass casualties. The enhanced combat uniforms and backup systems ensured that no Chaldean personnel died, while Olga Marie was injured but survived 68 71.

Human Order restoration and the New World

Chaldea defeated Goetia and ended the Incineration of Human Order. Following the battle, its personnel and Servants numbered more than 900, requiring its victory banquet to be held in the New World rather than its cafeteria 103 104.

After securing Goetia's Earth-like New World, Chaldea proposed the Humanity Migration Plan: relocate humanity through a portal, confront the Alien God, and use the New World as a refuge if Earth could not be saved 97 109.

Chaldea later moved much of humanity and Earth's infrastructure into the New World before the Bleaching, including efforts to transfer Ley Lines through the Greater Grail 137.

New Chaldea

Before the Bleaching, the Director secretly evacuated selected personnel into a hidden base and used dolls to make the Antarctic facility appear fully staffed. The surviving command group, including Ritsuka Fujimaru, Mash Kyrielight, Romani Archaman, Leonardo da Vinci, and Gordolf Musik, escaped through an Imaginary Number Dive and adopted the name New Chaldea 139 140.

New Chaldea emerged from its hidden amphibious base with roughly sixty personnel and Fou, then entered the Russian Lostbelt. It committed itself to reclaiming Proper Human History rather than merely surviving on the Bleached Earth 147.

Facilities & Systems

Antarctic headquarters

• Chaldea's original headquarters is a Mystic Workshop in Antarctica, designed to remain outside national interference and protect sensitive research 34.
• Its documented departments and rooms include the command center, artificial fetus cultivation room, combat-training room, laboratories, logistics department, staff dormitories, cafeteria, Rayshift room, central power plant, and central control room 40 62.
• A later assault plan revealed that the headquarters was built above a previously unrecorded underground magecraft workshop extending deep into the mountain 466.

Chaldeas

Chaldeas is a miniature Earth created by replicating the planet's soul through Animusphere magecraft. It exists on a different phase from humanity and functions as a high-density information body rather than a conventional model 57.

• Sheba can observe civilization lights upon Chaldeas's surface; if those lights remain visible one hundred years ahead, humanity is projected to survive 57.
• Chaldeas is considered another planet because it is an exact miniature Earth; destroying it would require force capable of destroying Earth itself 57.
• Chaldeas is later identified as the “alien planet” connected to the Alien God and the Earth Bleaching plan 57.
• After humanity's restoration, Ritsuka restarts the pseudo-Earth model despite opposition; it indicates Earth will remain safe for the following century 481.

Heroic Spirit Summoning System: Fate

• Chaldea developed artificial bodies for Heroic Spirit fusion, producing Mash Kyrielight as an experimental subject fused with Galahad 40 42.
• The Fate system was formally established after early Heroic Spirit summons, including Solomon, Galahad, and Leonardo da Vinci 40 42.
• Chaldea later develops a talisman-based Servant system that can preserve Heroic Spirit data, remove normal manifestation time limits, and restore defeated Servants for recovery and redeployment 453 457.
• Permanent manifestation creates a major magical-energy burden; temporary Master contracts with A-Team members are used to support Servants in combat 457.

Rayshift and Imaginary Number Dive

Marisbury initially resumes the directorship, then rapidly installs Olga Marie as public Director while covertly filling the organization with his own personnel. After three years, this hidden structure enables the Bleached Earth incident, forcing Olga Marie and other dissenters to establish New Chaldea at Atlas Academy 745.
