Its front served as a place for mortals to live, while its back was Undead Race territory, forming a model world.

Yin Ming did not hope to build a cycle of sixfold reincarnation. As long as he completed the most basic transformation between life and death, the Undead Race could claim half the world.

That was the idea, anyway!

In reality, though, Gourd Continent was bare. Only microorganisms and plant seeds existed there.

Building a continent was easy. Creating a space independent of the world was hard.

The laws of Gourd Space were incomplete. It could not transform or generate certain things. Drawing resources from the Source Plane provided plenty of matter and energy, but it could not nurture souls.

Without Soul Crystals, the creatures of Gourd Continent could not develop intelligence.

Plants were manageable. Seeds could grow by absorbing nutrients. But animals needed to hunt and reproduce. With nothing but instinct and not a shred of intelligence, they could not survive.

Ember refined things too slowly. Yin Ming could use embryos directly or let animals breed on Gourd Continent, but either approach would consume vast quantities of Soul Crystals.

Without enough Soul Crystals, he could not build a complete ecosystem—a little world with its own self-sustaining cycle.
