Prison Break (2)

The footsteps drew closer.

The fully armed orderlies arrived first, followed closely by a group of armed tactical police officers.

"David was knocked unconscious!"

Sims, who worked with David every day, rushed over and crouched beside the unconscious David. He then glanced at the toy door specially made by Li Zu.

"Check the surveillance footage and see which way he ran!" The lead officer waved a hand, ordering two people to review the cameras immediately.

"That bastard is in Dal's room!" From one of the "rooms," someone pointed at the room Li Zu had just locked himself inside. "He knocked Dal unconscious, locked himself in there, and made it look like he'd already escaped!"

"That's right, that bastard wants to escape!"

The crowd was enraged.

They loudly revealed Li Zu's hiding place, taking revenge for his refusal to let them out earlier.

It had taken only a few dozen seconds for "friendship" to turn into "hostility."

"Do you have a key? Open the door, now!" the lead officer urged.

Sims stepped forward and unlocked the door.

The instant it opened, two officers rushed inside first.

"That bastard isn't here!"

There was actually a huge hole in the floor of Dal's room. A thin layer of hard plastic was still visible around its edges. Toyman had clearly made the hole!

The most obvious conclusion was that Toyman had changed the floor's material and escaped through the hole!

"Attention, send some men to B3!"

The lead officer picked up his radio. "Also, send a team to guard B1, and send another group to hold the stairwells! Don't let anyone escape!"

After playing hide-and-seek with these lunatics for so long, he had gained some experience. He would not be fooled by such a simple diversion.

The orderlies and officers looked at Dal lying unconscious on the bed. Toyman had smashed his head bloody, leaving him in a miserable state.

Everyone could not help shaking their heads sympathetically.

This guy had really suffered a disaster for no reason.

"Carry him to the infirmary!" The lead officer ordered two orderlies to carry Dal, who lay in a pool of blood, away on a stretcher.

The lead officer stared at the large hole in the floor, his brows tightly furrowed.

"No! If he wanted to escape to another floor, why would he deliberately open Dal's cell, lock himself inside it, and not release anyone else to create chaos?"

"Maybe he didn't think that far ahead?" Sims did his best to guess. "He wanted us to see David on the ground, then see the iron door turned into a toy, so we would instinctively assume he had escaped... But he didn't expect anyone to expose his plan."

The lead officer asked again, "Then he should have opened the ceiling leading to B1. Running deeper underground would make escape even less likely, so why did he do this? And he deliberately made such a huge hole, as if he wanted to tell us he had jumped down!"

Sims froze at the question.

"Well, a madman's way of thinking... is hard to understand." Sims could only explain it that way. "But no matter what he does, as long as we guard Arkham's gates, he definitely cannot escape!"

"Mm." The lead officer nodded. He agreed. As long as Arkham Asylum was sealed off, no one could get out.

Yet he still felt that something was wrong.

The lead officer walked out of the cell.

"Crackle, crackle..."

A voice came through the radio.

"Captain, we've reached the room with the hole in B3, but... the cell door was never opened. The patient in that room didn't see anyone jump down!"

Another voice cut in over the same channel. "Captain! The surveillance footage only shows Toyman locking himself inside the room. He never came out, and none of the cameras on the other floors caught sight of him either!"

"Toyman is still in the cell!" The lead officer immediately realized it. This had all been a smokescreen. Toyman had never left poor Dal's room at all!

He rushed back into the room and, under Sims's stunned gaze, lifted the low little bed.

Sure enough, someone lay miserably pinned beneath it, unconscious.

A poor bastard with blood streaming from his head.

Sims immediately rushed over, wiped the blood from the man's face, and recognized who he was.

"It's Dal!"

"This is Dal. Then who was the person we carried out just now?"

"Toyman! Damn it!" Sims barely restrained the urge to kick the unconscious Dal.

Dal was Asian too!

They were both Asian, with similar builds, and both had blood smeared across their faces.

To humans, it was easy to suffer from face blindness when looking at people of another race unless they knew them well.

What was more, his face had been covered in blood. Everyone had assumed from the outset that the unlucky bastard lying in the pool of blood was Dal.

The situation had been urgent. No one could have imagined that Li Zu would dare disguise himself as the injured Dal and openly lie on a stretcher as he was carried away.

And he had been waved through all the way, escaping the encirclement with ridiculous ease.

Everything Toyman had done was merely to divert their attention, making them think about where Toyman had gone and believe that the person lying in the pool of blood was Dal!

"Quick! Stop the stretcher and that bastard with the bleeding head!" Furious, the lead officer grabbed his radio and roared, "Go now!"

Two orderlies carried the poor bastard with the bleeding head on a stretcher, hurrying toward the exit.

Their keycards allowed them to pass unhindered through one iron door after another.

"Ow, ow~" the poor bastard on the stretcher cried out in pain.

The orderly at the front found it somewhat amusing. "You really are miserable, kid. You actually went and provoked that lunatic!"

"Excuse me, could we stop here for a moment?"

The poor bastard who had been crying out on the stretcher suddenly sat up.

"What are you trying to do?"

The orderly carrying the rear of the stretcher instinctively sensed that something was wrong.

"I still need to break out of prison. You can drop me off here." The poor bastard with the bleeding head jumped up as he spoke and slammed his forehead into the unsuspecting orderly's nose.

After yanking the rubber baton from the man's waist, he swung it backhandedly at the other orderly.

The other orderly collapsed to the ground as well.

He was not very strong, and the two fallen orderlies were about to get back up. He chased after them and kept attacking—one strike to the left, one to the right, more than a dozen blows in a row—until blood splattered everywhere. Only then did he let out a long breath.

The poor bastard wiped the blood off his face, revealing Li Zu's features.

"Ptui." He spat out the bloody water that had flowed into his mouth, then bent down and gave the two unconscious orderlies two more strikes before stripping one of them of his white coat and putting it on.

Thud, thud, thud~

Urgent footsteps sounded in the distance.

Li Zu ran a few steps to the corner, then looked at a fully armed tactical police squad and cried out in terror, "Help! Help... The person on the stretcher jumped up, beat us up, and escaped! Quick! He's right behind me!"

He pointed around the corner while quickly approaching the police squad.

The officers also quickened their pace, not wanting that lunatic to cause even more trouble.

"Wait!" However, the squad leader raised his gun and stopped Li Zu, who was wearing the white coat. "What's your name?"

"Why are you people so alert?"

Li Zu raised his hands helplessly, as though he could not be bothered to keep pretending once they had recognized him.

"We've found the one who escaped!" The squad leader pressed the muzzle of his gun to Li Zu's chest while lowering his head and speaking softly into the radio. "We'll bring him back right away!"

On the other end of the radio.

The lead officer heard his subordinate's report.

"Good, they've caught that bastard!" He let out a huge sigh of relief.

"Tell them not to get close to Toyman!" Sims suddenly shouted anxiously.

"What?"

The lead officer turned toward Sims in confusion, wanting an explanation.

"If he touches a person... they'll turn into a toy!"

At that moment, screams came through the radio.

"My hand, my hand turned into..."

Thud!

Everyone's hearts clenched.
