Background / History
For at least seven years, the Dragon King Gang maintained a ritual in which a virgin boy and girl were offered to the creature on the fifth day of the fifth month. After the first sacrifice, the river remained calm for a year, allowing the custom to become entrenched with the yamen’s tacit approval. 2
The Flood Dragon publicly revealed itself during the River God Festival, erupting from the Dragon King River before the gathered crowd. While the onlookers fled in panic, Dragon King Gang leader Qiu Haiyou remained calm and smiled at the creature, implying prior knowledge of its arrival. 32
After Qiu Haiyou’s death, his brother Qiu Hairui continued the gang’s dealings with the demon. He ordered the abduction of one hundred children as sacrifices, warning his subordinates that failure to satisfy the so-called River God would bring death upon them. 182
The creature later expanded its hunting grounds around Ghost Gate Crossing. It ambushed and consumed a male Golden-Bone Crocodile Dragon, then defeated and devoured the wounded Millennium Giant Ao. After feeding, it demonstrated the ability to cultivate by condensing Moonlight Essence from fog and moonlight. 326 357
Fang Han first attempted to steal the Moonlight Essence while the demon cultivated, but the Flood Dragon detected him and drove him away with devastating breath attacks. 358 When the creature later moved downstream, Fang Han lured it into shallow water with drops of his refined blood and engaged it directly. 397 398
Unable to break its scales, Fang Han deliberately allowed the Flood Dragon to swallow him. He then attacked its unprotected interior, tore open the flesh around its core, and forcibly removed the Demon Core, killing the demon. 398 399
