Background / History
Five hundred years before the story, spiritual qi revived, Earth expanded, flora and fauna mutated, and an interdimensional wormhole brought the Outer-Domain Demon Clan into conflict with humanity. Humans developed the Dao Guidance Method to cultivate against this threat. 1
A person who cultivates the Dao Guidance Method from age seventeen undergoes blood-trait testing at eighteen. Their awakened elemental trait determines their cultivation system; after awakening, they are known as Spirit Martial Practitioners. 1
Awakening & Classification
| Lineage | Role and Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Element Type | Combat-oriented practitioners whose traits enable elemental techniques such as fire, lightning, wind, and earth. 1 |
| Space Dimension Type | Rare practitioners capable of spatial abilities; their scarcity makes them valuable to major powers. 32 |
| Animal Type | Combat practitioners who wield Battle Souls and may develop elemental abilities based on those souls. 15 |
| Food Type | Logistical support practitioners who restore injuries or spiritual power; their recovery abilities make them indispensable in prolonged combat. 1 |
| Power Type | A physically oriented lineage historically dismissed as the weakest because it lacks established elemental techniques. 1 |
Aptitude Grades
| Grade | Conventional Assessment |
|---|---|
| A | One-in-a-million aptitude, traditionally considered the most likely to reach the Supreme realm. 1 |
| B | Roughly one-in-ten-thousand aptitude; still considered exceptional. 1 |
| C–E | Lower conventional aptitude grades. 1 |
| F | The lowest grade, widely regarded as having little value or potential. 1 |
Aptitude conventionally determines cultivation speed and projected potential. However, Su Wuming argues that the system improperly treats physical aptitude and cultivation aptitude as the same measure—particularly for Power Types, whose grades are judged mainly by physical strength rather than spiritual cultivation potential. 1 194
Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Black Iron | 1 | First cultivation rank; newly awakened students begin practical cultivation at this level. |
| Bronze | 1 | Second rank; each rank is divided into nine stars. |
| Silver | 1 17 | Historically the highest attainable rank for Power Types; reaching Silver brings a qualitative increase in combat variety. |
| Gold | 1 192 | Advancement requires the development of law power alongside cultivation; Law Fragments from Golden Beast Crystals assist this process. |
| Platinum | 1 223 | Law power cultivated at Gold lays the foundation for Platinum-grade domain power. |
| Diamond | 1 272 | A higher realm; the Dao Guidance Method is reportedly unsuitable for long-term use, requiring an alternative method before Diamond Rank. |
| Starshine | 1 | Seventh named cultivation rank. |
| Supreme | 1 | Eighth named cultivation rank. |
| King | 1 | Highest named cultivation rank. |
Cultivation
Dao Guidance Method
The Dao Guidance Method gradually draws out a cultivator's potential and provides the basis for developing combat skills suited to an awakened trait. Diligence, comprehension, and repeated refinement are treated as essential alongside innate aptitude. 1 21
- Cultivation normally channels spiritual energy into the dantian. 9
- Combat skills arise from a practitioner's understanding of their own awakened trait and Dao Guidance Method. 21
- Exceptionally gifted practitioners may record their insights and sell them as combat-skill notes. 21
- The method may be flawed as a permanent cultivation path; an alternative is reportedly necessary before advancing to Diamond Rank. 272 273
Beast Crystals
Beast Crystals are a major cultivation resource obtained from demon beasts.
- Ordinary practitioners generally require purified crystals, as raw crystals contain harmful substances and are difficult to absorb safely. 9 176
- Purification is controlled by major military and aristocratic interests; five raw Gold-Tier crystals may be exchanged for one purified crystal. 176
- Silver-and-above practitioners can seal learned martial techniques into one-use Super Technique Scrolls, which require little spiritual power to activate and provide the creator's insights to the user. 45
Laws, Force Fields & Domains
Golden Rank practitioners must continuously perfect their law power; simply accumulating spiritual energy is insufficient for further advancement. 192 223
- Law Fragments are extracted from Golden Rank Beast Crystals and can only be used by Golden Rank practitioners. 192
- Law power may develop into specialized applications based on a practitioner's awakened lineage. 179 223
- Platinum advancement is associated with domain power. 223
- Power-Type law power acts primarily upon the practitioner's own body rather than drawing directly on heaven-and-earth elemental force. 179
Combat Development
Personal Martial Skills
Spirit Martial Practitioners develop combat skills by integrating their traits, physical condition, spiritual power, and cultivation method. A skill's strength depends not only on star level but also on combat experience, fighting style, and determination. 17 60
- Food Types are generally excluded from formal practical combat, though they are required to maintain physical conditioning and use their abilities while under exertion. 17
- Animal Types often depend heavily on the innate abilities of their Battle Souls, which can limit the martial skills available to them. 66
- Elemental practitioners may cultivate close-combat weapon forms rather than relying exclusively on ranged attacks. 78
Weapon Momentum
Weapon Momentum refers to weapon forms developed by elemental practitioners through the Dao Guidance Method to complement their abilities. Martial skills derived from the force and bearing of those forms are also collectively called Weapon Momentum. 78
Power-Type Practitioners
Power Types are conventionally considered a dead-end lineage because historical practitioners developed little beyond brute force. Their recorded ceiling is Nine-Star Silver, while a Grade-F Power Type is expected to stop at Bronze Nine-Star. 1
- Their lack of established techniques leaves them at a disadvantage against elemental attacks, ranged abilities, blades, and flames. 1 14
- Early-stage Power Types commonly rely on thrown weapons such as javelins and shot puts. 14
- Physical strength alone does not ensure durability; an inadequately tempered body can be damaged by its own force. 194 195
- Su Wuming's research contends that Power-Type limits stem from insufficient physical refinement and flawed aptitude classification rather than an inherent lack of cultivation talent. 194
Known Limitations
- Spiritual perception is not universal; before acquiring specialized perception abilities, a Power-Type practitioner may have to rely entirely on ordinary senses. 5
- Raw Beast Crystal absorption is normally slow, inefficient, and hazardous without purification or an exceptional physique. 9 176
- Advancement becomes increasingly resource-intensive, especially at Gold Rank and above. 176 192
- Combat skills must be compatible with the user's body and awakened trait; possession of a technique does not guarantee mastery. 18 82
