Background / History

Minato enters the Cloud Village battlefield during Hyuga Qingchuan's fight against the A–B duo. Arriving through a Flying Raijin kunai thrown by Kakashi, he immediately identifies Fourth Raikage A and recognizes the danger posed by A and Killer B's partnership. Qingchuan's admiration for Minato is met with modest embarrassment before Minato turns his attention to the battle. 156

After helping force A, Killer B, and Dodai into retreat, Minato protects the severely injured Qingchuan while he reconstructs his body. He later thanks Qingchuan for saving Kakashi, Obito, and Rin—whom the Hokage has selected as Minato's future students—and acknowledges that Qingchuan chose to remain behind to protect them. 158 159

When the Hyuga Clan attempts to recall Qingchuan, Minato uses his authority as battlefield commander to keep him at the front. He appoints Qingchuan directly to the Special Mobile Squad, declaring that no one other than Minato may deploy him. 165
