Background / History

Bai Ran spent his first six years on the Douluo Continent as a low-status Clear Sky Sect disciple. Before his awakening, outer- and servant-disciples teased and ordered him around, while his adoptive grandfather served as an outer-sect steward. Bai Ran’s sudden rise later secured his grandfather a comfortable logistics post. 90

At age six, Bai Ran awakened Innate Level 20 Soul Power and a martial soul appearing as a young girl wielding a trident. A Sea God’s Trident-shaped mark simultaneously emerged on his forehead. 2 3 The girl was Tang Wutong, who had unknowingly slept within him for six years. Her attempt to kill him immediately failed: damage meant for Bai Ran rebounded onto her, and she lost consciousness. 3

Tang San determined that Tang Wutong’s origin had completely fused with Bai Ran’s. They shared pain and fate, making separation impossible without harming her. Unable to remove his daughter, Tang San ordered Da Ming and Er Ming to protect Bai Ran as they would Tang Wutong. 5 The Clear Sky Sect subsequently housed Bai Ran near its sect masters in a lavish residence intended for a young lady, including a Ten-Thousand-Year Ice Marrow Jade bed. 6

Bai Ran later cultivated the Mysterious Heaven Technique, opening his second meridian and converting his Soul Power into internal force. He deliberately refused Tang Sect ultimate arts beyond that technique, partly to frustrate Tang San. 25

Appearance

Bai Ran is a short, delicate-looking boy whose appearance became increasingly feminine after his martial soul awakened. At Shrek’s entrance examination, he was around 1.3 meters tall and could not be readily identified as male or female while transformed. 35

Personality

Bai Ran is pragmatic, calculating, and strongly motivated by self-preservation. His awareness of the original timeline makes him wary of inherited “destiny,” Tang San’s schemes, and dangerous opportunities that offer little personal return. He refuses to involve himself in Huo Yuhao’s Ice Jade Empress Scorpion incident and declines to become Yan Shaozhe’s solution to Ma Xiaotao’s Evil Fire problem. 90 98

He hides his age, affiliation, and unusual abilities whenever public attention would be inconvenient. His Shrek entrance disguise concealed that he was under eight, though his extraordinary Soul Ring configuration still exposed him as a prodigy. 35

Bai Ran is also lazy, food-motivated, and fond of teasing others. He avoids unnecessary work, exploits privileges such as the Teacher Cafeteria, and keeps snacks in his storage ring. 38 81 106 Beneath this attitude, he is capable of protecting others: he drew Ma Xiaotao away from Huo Yuhao and Xiao Xiao despite the overwhelming difference in strength. 94 99

His confidence can become selfishness. During his race against Xiao Xiao, he intentionally held back to humiliate Zhou Yi, failing to consider how his scheme would affect Xiao Xiao until she confronted him. 74

Sea Goddess’s Daughter Martial Soul

Bai Ran’s martial soul is Tang Wutong herself: a fusion of the beast-type Goddess of Light Butterfly and tool-type Sea God’s Trident. This grants him the benefits of Twin Martial Souls. 7 11
