Background
Tang Wutong secretly left the God Realm for Douluo Continent, intending to seal her cultivation and memories before beginning anew. A mysterious streak of light struck her before she could complete the process, leaving her unconscious and missing for six years; even Tang San's divine sense could no longer locate her. 1
When Bai Ran awakened his Martial Soul, Tang Wutong emerged behind him with butterfly wings and a trident. Her attempt to kill him and escape failed: the attack passed through Bai Ran while its damage rebounded onto her, forcing her unconscious back into his body. 3 Tang San later confirmed that their origins had completely fused. Tang Wutong could not be stripped from Bai Ran without harming her, and any injury to him was reflected onto her. 5
Da Ming and Er Ming accepted the situation only because Tang Wutong's life depended on Bai Ran's. They sheltered him as they would their “little princess,” giving Tang Wutong a protected place in the Clear Sky Sect despite her loss of bodily autonomy. 5 6
Appearance
Tang Wutong resembles Tang San closely, though her features are described as more delicate and likely inherited from Xiao Wu. In her manifested Martial Soul form, she appears as a winged, phantom-like girl carrying a pale trident. 6 7
- Blue butterfly wings and a white or silver-white Sea God's Trident manifest with her. 3 8
- She normally cannot physically touch anyone except Bai Ran, passing through Da Ming and Er Ming like a phantom. 7
- During Martial Soul Possession, her traits appear on Bai Ran: long blue hair, golden butterfly wings, and faint golden butterfly-scale patterns. 44
Personality
Tang Wutong is proud, fiercely independent, and quick-tempered. Her first response to becoming Bai Ran's Martial Soul is to attack him repeatedly, refusing to accept a life “under another's roof”; the shared-damage backlash eventually forces her to recognize that violence against him is self-harm. 3 6 7
She is also image-conscious around Da Ming and Er Ming, whom she treats as her “Big Dad” and “Second Dad.” Despite her rebellious streak, she softens around them and values their approval. 6 10
Food is one of her greatest weaknesses. Unable to eat as an intangible spirit, she readily uses Martial Soul Possession to taste food through Bai Ran, and her appetite repeatedly overrides her pride. 8 15 Beneath the bickering and childish demands, she is protective: she instinctively intercepts a soul shock meant to erase Bai Ran's consciousness, even at severe risk to herself. 19
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
Tang Wutong contains two high-grade Martial Souls fused into Bai Ran's Martial Soul system.
- Goddess of Light Butterfly — A top-tier light-attribute beast Martial Soul, with a potential evolution into the Bright Dragon God Butterfly through fusion with a powerful dragon bloodline. 11 44
- Sea God's Trident — Her former Clear Sky Hammer mutated into this god-tier tool Martial Soul after her Sea God bloodline suppressed it. 3 11
- Bai Ran can attach Soul Rings to both Martial Souls and use them simultaneously once Tang Wutong's Martial Soul is activated. 11 15
Martial Soul Possession
Tang Wutong can merge into Bai Ran's body and lend him her appearance and Martial Souls.
- Possession lets her experience physical sensations, most notably eating. 8 15
- Bai Ran remains the primary controller and can forcibly dismiss or reject her possession. 8
- When Bai Ran gives her control, Tang Wutong can directly wield the Goddess of Light Butterfly and Sea God's Trident. 95
- Her visible manifestation must be concealed in public to avoid exposing that a living person is Bai Ran's Martial Soul. 33 59
Shared-Origin Bond
Tang Wutong's origin is fused with Bai Ran's, making their connection both a defense and a vulnerability.
- Harm directed at Bai Ran is transferred to Tang Wutong; her attacks on him also rebound onto herself. 3 5 7
- She absorbs much of the pain and pressure from Bai Ran's Soul Ring absorption. 14
- Her endurance has limits: the first thousand-year ring knocks her unconscious, the thirty-thousand-year ring leaves her exhausted, and the fifty-thousand-year ring incapacitates her for three days. 14 20 30
- Exceeding her limit risks shattering the Martial Soul and crippling Bai Ran. 14 31
Soul Skills
| Soul Skill | Source | Effects |
|---|---|---|
| Holy Light Butterfly Goddess Transformation | 1,000-year Holy Light Elk ring | Instantly removes negative conditions, including while controlled; grants a 100% Light-attribute increase and holy attributes on attacks for three minutes. 15 |
| Dark Moon Butterfly God Flash | 30,000-year Silver Moon Moth ring | Increases speed by 200% and grants a 50% evasion chance. Each failed evasion adds a Dark Moon stack, increasing attack by 50% up to three stacks; at maximum stacks, the next evasion is guaranteed and clears the stacks. 20 |
| Butterfly Goddess Judgment | 50,000-year Divine Bestowed Soul Ring | An area-of-effect attack that summons light butterflies and a Butterfly Goddess phantom to judge marked targets; deals additional burning damage to evil-aligned enemies. 31 |
Sea God Bloodline Techniques
Tang Wutong can access inherited Sea God power when controlling Bai Ran's body.
- Sea God's Light — Activates the trident mark on Bai Ran's forehead and releases holy light capable of purifying Ma Xiaotao's Evil Fire; the exertion leaves Tang Wutong in deep sleep. 96
- Golden Thirteen Halberds, First Form: Unfixed Wind (Imitation) — Uses the Sea God's Trident to immobilize an opponent for approximately three seconds. It consumes Tang Wutong's origin power and quickly exhausts her. 122
Relationships
- Bai Ran — Her unwilling host and fused counterpart. Their relationship begins with mutual hostility and constant bickering, but Tang Wutong teaches him the complete Mysterious Heaven Technique and repeatedly protects him from lethal harm. 5 19 23
- Tang San — Her father and a God King. He is desperate to separate her from Bai Ran but cannot do so safely; Tang Wutong remains more trusting of him than Bai Ran does. 5 31
- Xiao Wu — Her mother. Their first communication after Tang Wutong's disappearance is emotional and affectionate, though Tang Wutong hides that she has become Bai Ran's Martial Soul. 28 29
- Da Ming / Niu Tian — Her “Big Dad” and one of the Clear Sky Sect's sect masters. He acts as a protective guardian and warns her not to expose herself publicly. 3 33
- Er Ming / Tai Tan — Her “Second Dad” and fellow guardian. He is fiercely protective, but the bond with Bai Ran prevents him from acting against the boy. 3 7
- Ma Xiaotao — A dangerous Shrek senior whose Evil Fire Tang Wutong purifies with Sea God's Light after briefly taking control of Bai Ran's body. 96
Story Role / Major Arcs
Disappearance and Fusion
Tang Wutong's unexplained descent, six-year unconsciousness, and fusion with Bai Ran establish the central conflict: the Sea God's daughter has become a mortal boy's Martial Soul, beyond even Tang San's ability to undo safely. 1 5
Soul Ring Hunts
As Bai Ran acquires increasingly abnormal Soul Rings, Tang Wutong silently bears the physical and spiritual burden. Her intervention against the Silver Moon Moth's resentful soul shock also ruins Tang San's attempt to erase Bai Ran and restore her as the sole master of the body. 14 19 20
Clear Sky Sect Training
She becomes Bai Ran's cultivation teacher by passing on the complete Mysterious Heaven Technique. Her knowledge gives him access to the full meridian-opening method that the lower-realm Tang Sect lacks. 22 23
Shrek Academy Confinement
At Shrek, Tang Wutong spends much of her time concealed within Bai Ran, growing restless at being unable to appear openly. Her need for secrecy and physical contact becomes a continuing constraint on both of them. 33 59
Sea God Techniques at Shrek
Tang Wutong takes control during Bai Ran's confrontation with Ma Xiaotao, awakening Sea God's Light to suppress the Evil Fire. Later, she uses an imitation of Unfixed Wind to help Bai Ran escape Ma Xiaotao's pursuit. 96 122
