Elemental Magic Studies

Following the usual procedure, once the new students had been sorted and Headmaster Dumbledore had delivered a brief welcome speech, it was time for the feast to begin.

However, Dumbledore's words left the teachers and students puzzled.

Those who had already noticed Kaitlaite had begun to form their own ideas.

This might have something to do with him.

"As the Headmaster of Hogwarts, I must make the contributions expected of me to this school."

"Likewise, I must provide greater protection for the safety of this school's teachers and students."

"For instance, we must improve wizards' means of survival, and to do so, we need exposure to more forms of magic."

"Therefore, I solemnly announce—"

At this point, Dumbledore paused for a moment. Looking at the professors beside him and the students before him, he said, "A new magical course will be added. It will be called Elemental Magic Studies."

Hearing Dumbledore's words, everyone froze for a moment before being overcome with shock and astonishment.

Ever since Hogwarts had been founded, it had maintained seven magical subjects: Potions, Herbology, Divination, Charms, Astronomy, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and Care of Magical Creatures.

Dumbledore was breaking with tradition and adding Elemental Magic Studies, something they had never even heard of.

"This is an exceptionally unique field of magical study, as well as an entirely new form of magic. It is magnificent and extravagant, more powerful—and more dangerous."

"The person who created Elemental Magic Studies is a miracle, a truly great genius."

"I invited him for many years, and not long ago, he finally agreed to join Hogwarts as the professor of Elemental Magic Studies and teach Elemental Magic to everyone."

"Now, please welcome the creator of Elemental Magic Studies, Katelyle!"

Dumbledore's impassioned voice revealed just how delighted and exhilarated he was.

At the same time, he was filled with anticipation for Katelyle.

The looks in the eyes of Hogwarts' professors, including Professor McGonagall and Rubeus Hagrid, changed as they looked at Katelyle.

This handsome young man was actually a genius who had created an entirely new kind of magic.

Malfoy, Crabbe, Goyle, Hermione Granger, Ron Weasley, and even the second-years and older students were all bewildered. What kind of magic was Elemental Magic, exactly?

Harry had already known of Kaitlaite's existence, but he was also intensely curious to learn that Kaitlaite had created an entirely new kind of magic.

As a result, his gaze toward Kaitlaite was full of anticipation as well.

Under everyone's watchful eyes, Kaitlaite rose into the air without the aid of a broomstick.

Professor Quirrell, Severus Snape, and Professor McGonagall all widened their eyes as they watched Kaitlaite fly without uttering an incantation or using a broomstick.

What kind of magic was this?

As magic professors, they could not recognize it. That was rather unbelievable.

Kaitlaite stood in midair, roughly three meters above the ground. Looking down at the gasping children, a smile appeared on his face. He then drew his wand and swept it through the air.

Before everyone's eyes, the Great Hall became damp, and a mist began to fill the air. Then it cleared again, leaving glistening droplets suspended overhead. Under Kaitlaite's control, the droplets transformed into palm-sized sprites that leaped and tumbled through the air.

The Water Sprites looked incredibly adorable. They jumped before the wizards, passed through the flames, and were scorched into vapor. When they landed on the wizards, their cool touch was amusing and wonderfully comfortable.

The young wizards were astonished and delighted, and cheers erupted without end.

Kaitlaite waved his wand again, and the damp, cool Great Hall became restless.

Fist-sized flames appeared in the air, like mushrooms struggling to break through the soil.

The flames transformed into House-Elves as well, chasing after the Water Sprites.

The temperature rose. The Water Sprites were terrified of the Fire Sprites and scattered in all directions. If they were too slow, their bodies shrank and became more transparent.

Watching a Fire Sprite fly past him, Malfoy's eyes gleamed with excitement and curiosity as he reached out to grab it.

"Wow, that burns!"

His rash action came at a price. Malfoy's hand was burned, red and badly swollen, looking exactly like a braised pig's trotter.

The young wizards who had been eager to try immediately stopped daring to act recklessly upon seeing that. Still, their eager eyes followed the little sprites wherever they went.

Kaitlaite smiled faintly. Before Malfoy and everyone else, an especially lively Water Element sprite hopped over Ron Weasley's and Harry's heads, leaving behind tiny droplets before landing in Malfoy's hand.

Malfoy instinctively wanted to throw the Water Sprite away, but he quickly held back.

The Water Sprite lay down in his palm, and a cool, comfortable sensation spread through his hand, like holding a block of ice in summer. It felt wonderful.

"My God, Malfoy, your hand is healed!"

Goyle looked at Malfoy's hand and cried out in surprise and delight.

Upon hearing this, the young wizards nearby immediately gathered around.

The adorable Water Sprite had healed Malfoy's burned pig trotter.

Professor McGonagall and the others drew another sharp breath as they watched Kaitlaite's demonstration.

Was this Elemental Magic?

It looked terrifyingly powerful!

And this was only a demonstration. What kind of damage would it inflict in battle?

Kaitlaite slowly descended and arrived at the center of the stage. He first bowed to Professor McGonagall and the other Hogwarts professors, then turned to the school's wizards and said, "Hello, everyone. My name is Katelyle, and I am the professor who will teach you Elemental Magic."

"What I just showed you were three minor spells from Elemental Magic."

"Elemental Magic is a new and more intricate form of wondrous magic. It contains the seven great elements of water, fire, earth, wind, lightning, light, and darkness. It is more interesting and easier to cast, but it tests each person's control over magic power and whether they possess strong mental strength."

"Most importantly, we must sense the wondrous energy of heaven and earth."

"Elemental Magic does not distinguish between Muggles and pure-blood families. No matter who you are, as long as you are willing to work hard, you can become a wizard. Though I prefer to call myself a mage."

Dumbledore came to stand beside Katelyle, then looked at the crowd and smiled. "Thank you very much to Professor Katelyle for showing us the enjoyment and power of Elemental Magic. I imagine there must be wizards who are already eager to learn it."

"As a special new subject, Elemental Magic Studies will be offered as an open course. In other words, every wizard at Hogwarts may study it."

"Of course, participation will be entirely voluntary!"

"The specific schedule for Elemental Magic Studies will be announced to everyone in the coming days."

"Now, let the feast begin!"
