Malfoy's expression was very grim.
He had not expected Harry to be so bold as to point a wand at him.
Moreover, those Gryffindor first-years were so united and gave him such a hard time.
On the contrary, on his own side, Crabbe and Goyle backed away in fright, and the Slytherin first-years did not even dare to step forward.
"Harry, you should understand the consequences of doing this."
Malfoy tried to soothe the angry Harry because he did not want to be hit by magic; even if Harry's magic might not pose much of a threat, losing face in front of so many people was terrible.
If Malfoy knew that Harry had already mastered Fire Elemental Magic and Wind Elemental Magic by this point, who knows if he would still think this was as simple as just losing face.
"Malfoy, I've already tolerated your disgusting face enough."
"Today, you must apologize to Ron."
Harry's attitude was very resolute, and his gaze fixed on Malfoy was filled with hostility.
Malfoy breathed a little quickly; he was also extremely furious, experiencing a humiliation he had never suffered before.
At the same time, he had a feeling that if he really didn't apologize, Harry would actually use magic.
Malfoy swallowed hard and finally chose to compromise, saying, "Fine, fine, I apologize to Ron..."
Right at that moment, a girl's voice rang out from the Gryffindor side, saying, "Harry, Madam Hooch is here."
Hearing this, Hermione and Ron immediately stepped forward—one controlled his hand, while the other took away Harry's wand.
Using magic at a time like this was strictly forbidden, or the consequences would be terrible.
Without his wand, Harry could no longer cast spells, which instantly stripped Malfoy of any sense of crisis and brought a smile back to his face—one of arrogance, haughtiness, and disdain for Harry.
"Harry, I've noted this humiliation you put me through."
"Later, I'll make you pay."
After threatening Harry, Malfoy returned to the Slytherin group, feeling extremely dissatisfied with Crabbe and Goyle, and extending his displeasure to the Slytherin newcomers as well.
"We are Slytherins, and we should possess strong ambition and a craving for power."
"What did you just do? Facing the little lions of Gryffindor, we need to show enough aggressiveness to make them afraid, instead of being scared by them like a hamster and hiding far away."
Malfoy's voice kept ringing out among the Slytherin students, acting as both an outlet for his vent and a way to establish his leadership image while agitating their emotions.
Sure enough, under Malfoy's venting, the gazes that some of the Slytherin snakes cast toward Gryffindor changed accordingly.
Harry had been calmed down by Ron and Hermione, but upon hearing Malfoy's words just then, his expression shifted once more.
Yet soon enough, Harry and the others smiled, looking quite amused.
"Draco Malfoy, I heard your declaration."
"However, that is very unfriendly. Given your remarks, Slytherin will lose five points."
Madam Hooch walked over, staring at Malfoy with an unfriendly expression, and said in a deep voice.
Madam Hooch had short grey hair and two yellow eyes that looked remarkably like an eagle's.
Undoubtedly, she was a capable and sharp woman.
Having been warned and docked points by Madam Hooch like this, Malfoy's normally pale face actually flushed with a bit of red.
No one believed that Malfoy was excited or happy at that moment because that was entirely abnormal.
Yet precisely because of this, Malfoy's hostility toward Harry grew even more intense, and the looks that the Slytherin newcomers cast at Gryffindor became somewhat unfriendly as well.
Those words of Malfoy's had worked.
Of course, the lions of Gryffindor were not about to back down at a time like this.
Madam Hooch distinctly felt the smell of gunpowder lingering in the air, and she abruptly snapped, "What are you all staring at? Standing here like a bunch of silly statues?"
"Now, everyone stand beside a broomstick."
"Quick, quick, quick, make haste!"
"Whoever is slow, please leave this place, because it shows you have no passion for flying lessons whatsoever."
Faced with Madam Hooch's sternness and the hint of suppressed anger, the students of both Slytherin and Gryffindor immediately hurried over to the side of their broomsticks.
Slytherin and Gryffindor stood on opposite sides, once again forming a confrontation. They looked across at each other with different expressions, but all directed at the opposing side.
Harry looked at the broomstick beside him. It was old and battered, with twigs sticking out every which way, looking extremely messy.
Thinking of what Fred and George had said, Harry had a lingering feeling that there was something wrong with the broomstick beside him.
For instance, if it acted like a drunkard, wobbling around out of control, that would be utterly humiliating—especially since Malfoy certainly wouldn't let this opportunity pass to sneer and mock him.
"Extend your right hand over the broom," Madam Hooch called out, standing between the students of the two houses. "And then say 'Up!'"
"Up!" Harry and the others lifted their spirits and quickly shouted.
Whoosh!
Harry's broom immediately leaped up into his hand, moving at a very fast speed.
Harry was quite pleased and let out a sigh of relief at the same time.
Then Harry looked at Hermione, Ron, and Neville. Thank goodness, they had successfully grabbed their broomsticks as well.
Malfoy also easily summoned his broomstick into his hand, and consequently, the look he cast at Harry carried a hint of provocation.
To this, Harry gave a faint smile, completely disregarding Malfoy's disdain.
The Gryffindor students performed flawlessly, but the Slytherin side was rather disastrous.
The scene that Fred and George had talked about played out on the Slytherin side.
Several people, including Goyle, failed to catch their broomsticks. Goyle, in particular, after trying hard a few times, finally managed to get his broomstick to drift lazily into the air. But just as he was rejoicing, the broomstick went seemingly mad and began whacking Goyle over the head several times.
Harry and the other Gryffindor students were in stitches, and Ron seized the opportunity to taunt Malfoy, saying, "Malfoy, your little lackey doesn't seem very impressive, does he?"
"Oh, dear, he's about to be knocked unconscious by his own broomstick."
Malfoy felt a sense of danger at this sudden phenomenon, and being humiliated by Ron like this made his expression turn ugly once more.
"Shut up!" Malfoy snapped hatefully at Ron.
Ron stopped talking, but the smile on his face never faded.
What a rare and wonderful opportunity this was!
This sudden disruption threw the order into chaos, delighted Gryffindor, and startled Slytherin. Then, under Madam Hooch's magic, the broomsticks quieted down again.
It had to be said that as Malfoy's lackey, Goyle had a remarkably sturdy build; after being battered four or five times, his head was merely red, and he hadn't passed out.
