Everything Lyon said was true. Over the summer, he had learned many spells, and many of them had already reached master-level proficiency.
He had tried to advance spells the way the Fiendfyre Curse could be advanced, but he simply could not do it.
That was why he had come to ask Professor Flitwick.
"Mr. Shelby, forgive me for being frank, but your current level is already something to be proud of. Wanting to go further is not something you should be considering at this stage..."
Professor Flitwick hesitated. He genuinely wanted to explain it to Lyon; after all, it was rare to encounter such a studious student.
But while everyone else was still learning how to get started with the Levitation Charm, teaching them how to create spells from a master-level Levitation Charm seemed somewhat inappropriate.
"Professor, please tell us. We also want to know how to advance further after reaching master-level spells."
Little Hermione spoke up. Professor Flitwick swept his gaze across the other students in the class and saw that most of the Slytherin students were nodding.
As for Gryffindor, Flitwick did not even look at them.
Just look at this class: Lyon was leading the little Slytherin snakes in listening attentively, while the little Gryffindor lions had no idea what it meant to respect others.
"Very well, then I'll explain what needs to be done after reaching master-level spellwork."
Professor Flitwick wiped the blackboard and began writing out the classifications of spells.
"Take our Mr. Lyon, for example. He has already mastered the Levitation Charm completely. If he wishes to alter a spell or even advance it, he needs a reference—preferably a path left behind by someone before him."
Lyon listened with his full attention. He knew almost nothing about this area.
"Several decades ago, there was a genius who had already reached the master level with the Levitation Charm. Back then, he created a spell of his own called the Flying Charm."
Flitwick spoke mysteriously, drawing curious looks from everyone around him. But Lyon suddenly seemed to recall something.
"The Flying Charm... Professor, could that genius have been Voldemort?"
The moment those words left his mouth, everyone present shuddered. They felt as if some indescribable thing had fixed its gaze upon them, making their entire bodies tremble.
"Don't say that name! Oh! Merlin!"
Professor Flitwick hurriedly stopped him. Only after calming the students down did he look quietly at Lyon.
"I was indeed referring to You-Know-Who. If you want to advance this spell further, you must either create a spell yourself or follow a path someone has already taken. For example, you could study You-Know-Who's Flying Charm. Once you understand its principles, it will be far easier than creating a spell from scratch."
After Professor Flitwick finished, Lyon fell into thought.
No wonder he had been able to develop Fire Shield before. He had a precedent and the principles behind Fire Shield.
What he had referenced at the time was Grindelwald's Fire Shield. With that predecessor as a model, combined with his Dark Magic Prodigy talent, the difficulty had not been high.
"Professor, then how does one create a spell?"
Little Hermione looked expectant. This little study maniac never let knowledge slip past her. Over the past two days, Hermione had asked him hundreds of questions.
"To create a spell, you need to study spell theory extensively. Once you understand the fundamental principles of spells and have grasped certain basic theorems, you can use the magic within your body to develop it in the direction you desire."
"All of these methods require you to possess a great deal of magical knowledge. For instance, when channeling magical power, it cannot originate from your palm; it must be transmitted through the bones in your body. But that brings up the issue of many spells being incompatible. Things like these are basic magical theorems."
Upon hearing this, aside from little Hermione, who understood only part of it, and Lyon, who suddenly understood, everyone else in the classroom listened to Professor Flitwick with utterly blank expressions.
Wait, wasn't this supposed to be first year?
Why could Lyon and Hermione understand it while they could not?
What spell principles? What magical power output positions? What compatibility positions?
Could you fucking speak normally?
Hadn't school only started today?
This was fucking their first class!
The gap had quietly widened without them even noticing...
After Professor Flitwick's barrage of information, Lyon looked thrilled. Hermione had understood the general idea in a daze, and a few others were like her. Everyone else was completely baffled.
"Thank you for your guidance, Professor. I truly did not expect spell theory to be so profound." Lyon gave Professor Flitwick a respectful bow, and Flitwick's face filled with gratification.
"Oh, Lyon, there's no need to thank me. I haven't seen a student as diligent as you in a long time."
"If you don't mind, you can come to the staff common room after class. I can give you some more in-depth instruction."
He was openly giving him private lessons!
Lyon was delighted inside, but he hid it well and nodded respectfully.
This was Professor Flitwick's personal instruction.
After all, Professor Flitwick had won the dueling championship.
And during the final battle in the original story, Professor Flitwick's strength had been unfathomable. Even facing several Death Eaters alone had not been a problem for him.
With Professor Flitwick personally teaching him, developing new spells would be easy, wouldn't it?
"All right, Lyon. Could you help me guide the other students in completing the Levitation Charm? With your instruction, they'll improve very quickly."
"It would be my honor, Professor." Lyon nodded and rose to his feet.
Professor Flitwick's form of address for him had changed from Mr. Shelby to Lyon.
In the West, surnames came last and given names came first. Addressing someone directly by their given name meant the two had become quite familiar.
It was like the difference between "Hello, Mr. Zhang" and "Hey, Zhang San."
With Lyon's guidance, little Hermione was the first to complete the introductory stage of the Levitation Charm, followed by the other Slytherin students.
As for Gryffindor?
"Mr. Shelby, why won't you teach me?" Ron said with dissatisfaction. "Professor Flitwick told you to guide us, but you kept teaching Hermione just now!"
Standing in front of Hermione, Lyon had been holding her hand around her wand. Only then did he let go and look at Ron.
"Mr. Weasley, do you think you're better than everyone else? Can't you see that I'm teaching the other students?"
"I needed Miss Granger to complete her Levitation Charm practice first."
Ron stared at Lyon in disbelief, then looked at Professor Flitwick, his mouth hanging wide open.
"Professor, this isn't fair! Shelby has been holding Granger's hand for ten minutes! This obviously isn't teaching!"
At Ron's words, Hermione instantly blushed all the way to the roots of her neck. She lowered her head, not daring to meet the eyes of the surrounding students.
Professor Flitwick shot Ron a dissatisfied look. He truly did not want to deal with students like this. Couldn't Ron see that Lyon was his prized student?
Professor Flitwick: "Lyon, why weren't you teaching Mr. Weasley?"
Lyon: "Professor, Hermione and I were demonstrating for the other students just now."
Slytherin students: "Yes, yes, yes."
Professor Flitwick: "See that, Mr. Weasley?"
Ron's thoughts: I'm taking an eight a.m. class.
Gryffindor students' thoughts: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're so noble, you're so amazing, you're fucking demonstrating.
