As the Inferi surged toward him from all directions, Lyon did not panic. He simply raised his wand.
"Fiendfyre Incineration!"
A black-and-red flame shot from Lyon's wand and struck several Inferi shambling toward him in the distance.
But.
The instant the Fiendfyre hit their bodies, Lyon discovered that it had gone out!
How could Fiendfyre possibly be extinguished?
He remembered that Fiendfyre could only be directly extinguished by Finite Incantatem, yet now his ever-reliable Fiendfyre Curse had failed.
Lyon frowned. "Avada Kedavra!"
A sudden green flash struck an Inferius. When the green light faded, Lyon saw its body sway a few times, but it did not collapse completely.
Lyon stared at the Inferius. The Killing Curse had worked just now.
He had a guess.
If Voldemort truly could summon so many Inferi now, why would he still remain at Hogwarts?
According to the original story, Voldemort had stayed at Hogwarts because he wanted to steal the Philosopher's Stone.
Now that Voldemort had recovered, though, there was no way he would still be at Hogwarts.
That meant none of this was real.
These Inferi were probably nothing more than an illusion.
But knowing that was useless for the moment. He still needed to find a way out.
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Avada Kedavra!"
"Avada Keda..."
Who knew how long passed before Lyon felt his magic beginning to run dry.
That was not a good sign.
Avada Kedavra could only attack a single target. Compared to the Fiendfyre Curse, it really did feel rather underwhelming.
If his Fiendfyre Curse could damage the Inferi in this illusion, things would be much easier.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Even as he thought, Lyon did not stop moving. He continued firing spell after spell.
"No, I need to think of something."
In the gaps between casting spells, Lyon quickly found the Avada Kedavra entry on his panel.
[Killing Curse (Master)]
It had already reached Mastery.
But he had never heard of anyone being able to directly evolve Avada Kedavra.
With no path laid down by those before him, and judging from what Flitwick had said, evolving a spell would be extremely difficult.
"Avada Kedavra!"
Lyon fired another spell, and the sensation of magical depletion grew even more obvious.
To create a spell of his own, he needed to understand its underlying logic.
This was the time he could least afford to panic.
Avada Kedavra directly attacked an enemy's soul, a spell that forcibly stripped away the soul.
Without a soul in the body, a person naturally died.
If he wanted to directly evolve the Killing Curse into an area-of-effect attack, what would he need to do?
For once, Lyon felt anxious. He had thought Voldemort would not make a move against him while he was at school, but he had not expected this.
For it to attack a group, it needed a medium—just like electricity. Through contact between objects, a current could pass through all of them.
Could it be... a chain lightning Avada Kedavra?
That was unrealistic. He felt it would consume even more magic than an ordinary Killing Curse.
Wait, he seemed to have thought of something.
Fiendfyre!
That was right. Fiendfyre was not merely a spell; its nature leaned more toward summoning flames.
If he could combine the Fiendfyre Curse with Avada Kedavra, then as long as there was a medium connecting the enemies' bodies, he could kill them directly.
No sooner thought than done. "Fiendfyre Incineration!"
A black-and-red flame shot from the tip of his wand, but this time, Lyon controlled it so it did not lose its connection to the wand.
At the same time, Lyon silently thought, Avada Kedavra!
Suddenly, he felt as though an additional energy had appeared within the Fiendfyre. In an instant, it dyed the Fiendfyre green, and the green flames raced toward a cluster of Inferi in the distance!
Three or four of the Inferi in that group suddenly shuddered violently and fell to the ground the next moment!
It worked!
He could hardly believe that creating a spell of his own had been so easy.
Lyon had tried this before, but he had made no progress at all. Creating spells was indeed as difficult as Flitwick had said.
[Ding! Congratulations, Host. The Killing Curse has evolved: Fiendfyre Killing Curse!]
Lyon felt that something was still missing.
If he had to wait for these Inferi to touch each other before killing them, the efficiency would be far too low.
He needed to find a medium on them.
Wait.
His direction had been wrong.
Did killing people within an area necessarily require a medium?
Lyon suddenly grinned. He felt as though he had opened the door to a whole new world.
"Storm and Rain!" A weather spell burst from the tip of his wand, and masses of dark clouds began gathering overhead.
Lyon suddenly smiled wider and slowly planted himself where he stood. It was as though a fierce wind had risen around him; only the sky above Lyon remained free of dark clouds, highlighting his upright figure.
Lyon slowly raised his right arm, his wand pointing straight at the sky.
"Fiendfyre Killing Curse!"
In an instant, green flames followed the storm clouds summoned by Lyon's spell and dyed the entire mass of clouds a dark, gloomy green!
At that moment, even the air seemed to have fallen silent. It was as though Lyon alone stood tall between heaven and earth.
"Area Killing Curse!"
[Ding! Congratulations, Host. The weather spell has successfully evolved into: Area Killing Curse.]
A sudden storm appeared throughout the illusion. Terrifying dark-green clouds stained the surrounding earth a deep green, making the entire world look like the end of days and sending chills down the spine.
As the incantation ended, the whole world seemed to light up. The clouds overhead suddenly pressed down toward the ground!
The illusory space around them seemed unable to withstand such a powerful spell. Every Inferius in the dark-green clouds of the Area Killing Curse was annihilated without leaving even a trace behind.
"Bang!"
With a loud explosion ringing beside Lyon's ears, the illusion around him suddenly shifted at high speed. When he opened his eyes again, he was already in Quirrell's office.
"Pfft!"
Quirrell spat out a mouthful of blood and stared tremblingly at Lyon. "Master, your Ancient Magic has exhausted all my magic..."
"You drained the life force from my body some time ago. I can barely hold on now."
Lyon frowned, realizing that Quirrell was speaking to Voldemort on the back of Quirrell's head.
"Shut up! Turn around and let me speak to Shelby!"
Voldemort's voice, however, was filled with excitement. From their conversation, Lyon also cleared up the doubts in his heart.
No wonder Voldemort had been the one teaching in Quirrell's class today. It turned out Voldemort had drained Quirrell's life force in advance.
That illusion just now had probably been Ancient Magic.
Was this thing really that powerful?
Lyon recalled the Time-Reversal Charm from before and roughly understood.
At this moment, Quirrell had already removed the turban from his head...
(Because I've received many gifts from readers recently, I'm planning to start releasing chapters in bulk. There were a few minor mistakes in the drafts I wrote a few days ago, but I can't change them during the current verification period. I hope everyone will be understanding. From now on, I'll be writing and releasing more chapters. Please support me with gifts and five-star reviews.)
