Background / History
Lin Aotian was the foremost true disciple of the Mystic Yellow Holy Land and the long-standing first place on its Heavenly Ranking. He treated every contest as a fight for first place, refusing to share superiority even with Ling Xiao, his closest rival. When Ling Xiao reached the 59th floor of the Illusory Martial Tower, Lin entered immediately, reached the 60th floor, and taunted Ling Xiao afterward. 104
His hostility toward Su Fang began when Su Fang's use of the Myriad-Blood Medicinal Bath Pool reduced its effects for Lin. Believing Su Fang had taken resources that should have been his, Lin developed a grudge before even learning Su Fang's identity. 101 105
Su Fang's ascent through the Illusory Martial Tower, including his display of Immortal potential, made Lin increasingly resentful and insecure. Rather than challenge Su Fang openly, Lin arranged for Xue Ao to kill him in an arena duel, first offering protection through his Enforcement Hall master and then a Blood Spirit Fruit as payment. 108 111 112
After Xue Ao's defeat, Lin repeatedly escalated his attempts to eliminate Su Fang. He paid disciples to monitor Su Fang, used genuine information about a Demon Crystal Mine to lure him out of the holy land, and became anxious when the assassins he arranged failed to return. 117 121 140
Personality
Lin Aotian was intensely proud, competitive, and unable to accept being surpassed. His need to remain first extended beyond combat strength to tests of talent and comprehension; Ling Xiao's attempt to overtake his tower record was enough to provoke an immediate response. 104
His pride turned into vindictiveness after Su Fang eclipsed him. Lin was willing to manipulate Xue Ao, bribe informants, arrange assassinations, and involve his family in an ambush rather than accept Su Fang as the stronger disciple. 111 117 222
Despite his scheming, Lin possessed genuine battlefield resolve. After Ling Xiao was defeated in their joint challenge, he continued attacking Su Fang alone and pushed his saber technique toward the peak of an Eleventh-Stage Martial Saint's power. 174
Abilities & Skills
Saber Mastery
Lin was a peerless saber wielder whose strength and killing intent distinguished him from Ling Xiao despite their comparable cultivation. His combat experience gave him a fierce, ruthless presence that Su Fang considered superior to Jin Yu's. 169
- Wielded a black greatsaber in battle. 169
- Could challenge opponents above his realm; he and Ling Xiao both had records of defeating Eleventh-Stage Martial Saint-level opponents. 168
- His strongest attacks forced Su Fang to rely on the Hundred Shadows realm of the Cloud-Remnant Shadow Body Art to evade them. 174
Blood Sea Frenzied Blade
Lin's principal saber art produced blood-colored saber qi and included both wide-area and single-target techniques.
- Sixth Form: Blood Sea Overwhelming the Heavens — released numerous blood-colored saber phantoms to strike Su Fang's shadow bodies across the arena. 173
- Seventh Form: Blood Saber Without Regret — a head-on slash whose power approached the peak of an Eleventh-Stage Martial Saint. 174
- Blood Saber No Regrets — his final defensive counterattack against Su Fang's Thunder Dragon Shattering Heaven; it was ultimately overwhelmed. 175
Heavenly Ranking Cultivation
Lin stood at the peak of the Tenth-Stage Martial Sovereign realm while ranked first among the Mystic Yellow Holy Land's true disciples. He was later described as nearing an Eleventh-Stage Martial Saint breakthrough. 101 163 169
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Black greatsaber — Lin's primary weapon in his Heavenly Ranking battle against Su Fang. 169
- Blood Spirit Fruit — offered to Xue Ao as payment for challenging and attempting to kill Su Fang. 112
- Storage ring — taken by Su Fang after Lin's death. 224
Relationships
- Su Fang — Rival and eventual killer. Lin resented Su Fang for receiving premier cultivation resources, arranged multiple plots against him, lost to him in the Heavenly Ranking tournament, and later died fighting him. 101 111 175 224
- Ling Xiao — Competitive rival and fellow top-ranked true disciple. They temporarily set aside their mutual grievances to face Su Fang together. 104 169
- Xue Ao — Pawn in Lin's assassination attempt against Su Fang; Lin promised him protection and a Blood Spirit Fruit. 111 112
- Lin Qi — Father. He joined Lin's Proud Wind City ambush against Su Fang and was killed during the battle. 222 224 235
- Lin Chengfeng — Grandfather, Lin Clan patriarch and City Lord of Proud Wind City. He sought revenge for Lin's death but was also killed by Su Fang. 235 242
- Lin Aotian's lackeys — Followers who relied on his influence, later spread rumors that Su Fang had fled out of fear. 240
Story Role / Major Arcs
Illusory Martial Tower Rivalry
Lin defended his position as the Heavenly Ranking's first disciple by reaching the 60th floor of the Illusory Martial Tower, one floor above Ling Xiao. Su Fang subsequently exceeded his achievement, turning Lin's competitive resentment into open hostility. 104 105 108
Assassination Schemes
Lin hired Xue Ao to murder Su Fang under the cover of an arena duel, then had Su Fang monitored for Demon Crystal-related movements. He used a fabricated opportunity surrounding a Demon Crystal Mine to draw Su Fang outside the Mystic Yellow Holy Land, but the scheme failed. 111 117 121 140
Heavenly Ranking Defeat
During the Heavenly Ranking Challenge Tournament, Lin cooperated with Ling Xiao against Su Fang. After Su Fang eliminated Ling Xiao, Lin fought on alone and launched his strongest saber strike, but Su Fang defeated him with the Eighth Form of the Nine Tribulations Thunder Fist, leaving him severely injured and unconscious. 169 173 175 176
Proud Wind City Ambush and Death
Having recovered from his defeat, Lin returned to Proud Wind City and plotted with his father to trap Su Fang with false information about Taiyi Divine Mud and a Spirit-Binding Formation. After Lin Qi was killed, Lin confronted Su Fang personally, but was overwhelmed and killed. Su Fang burned his remains and later informed the Mystic Yellow Holy Lord of the death. 220 222 224 242
