In the room, Green began searching it from top to bottom.
Under the bed, beneath the mattress, inside the wardrobe—he lifted these things and examined them one by one, but found nothing in the end.

He placed his hand on the third drawer, at the very bottom, and slowly pulled it open.
A notebook, yellowish-brown and somewhat battered, lay at the very back of the drawer.
It was small, and had been stood upright on purpose. Unless the drawer was opened all the way, it would be difficult to spot.
There's some hidden intent here, but it isn't very strong. I wonder what's written in it.
