Green lifted the carriage curtain. Old Green was not inside; he had likely gone to rest in another carriage. In his place was Kalant, an acquaintance Green knew from the castle. Two guards stood beside the carriage as well, long swords in hand and longbows on their backs, ready to relieve Kalant so they could take turns resting.
"Lord Green, you're awake?" Seeing Green emerge from the carriage, the two hurriedly lowered their heads in greeting.
"Mm. I need to speak with the baron and Captain Os. Dean, Matt, please go notify them and have them come over." Green yawned, looking as though he had just woken up.
"Yes, Lord Green." Dean and Matt immediately answered. Then they rushed off, taking three steps in two, toward the carriages at the front and rear of the convoy. Before long, the clip-clop of hooves sounded out as Baron Kluo and Os rode over to Green's carriage.
"Come inside and talk." The moment he saw them, Green had them enter the carriage. Baron Kluo and Os were both baffled, but Green's grave expression made the seriousness of the matter clear. Without hesitation, they quickly climbed inside.
Once the two entered, Green realized the carriage was somewhat small. Baron Kluo and Green were not particularly large, so it was not much of an issue. Os, however, was huge, and his presence made the carriage feel rather cramped. But this was not the time to dwell on that, so Green got straight to the point.
"Someone is following our convoy. They should be pursuers sent by the Saladin Kingdom!"
The words struck Baron Kluo and Os like a heavy hammer. For a moment, both seemed frozen in place, staring at Green in shock.
Still, they had been through war and weathered many storms, so they quickly regained their composure.
"Green, when did you discover them? How many are there? What are our chances?" Baron Kluo recovered first and urgently questioned Green for details.
In Baron Kluo and Os's eyes, Green could not possibly have summoned them specifically to play such a joke. This was highly likely to be true.
"Just now. When I woke up and looked at the scenery through the window, I noticed movement in the forest behind the convoy. Someone was tracking us. I watched carefully for quite a while; there should be five of them. We've been traveling day and night without stopping, and we had a head start, yet they can still catch us. I'm afraid all five are Knight-class." Green made up an excuse and told them what the chip had detected.
As soon as Green finished speaking, Baron Kluo and Os's faces turned ashen. Five Knight-class experts were nearly invincible in their eyes. Since the enemy came from the military, they would certainly fight in coordination, making their combined strength far greater than one plus one. Ordinary Knights would likely need twice their number just to hold off their assault.
On their side, they had only two ordinary Knights, plus Green, a Knight Apprentice. Though Green was unlike an ordinary Knight Apprentice, he had never revealed his true strength to them. In their eyes, no matter how strong Green was, he could not compare to a true Knight.
"There's no other way. We can only abandon the valuables and flee. Their main target isn't us, but the goods. Hopefully, once we abandon them, they'll stop pursuing us." Baron Kluo had resolve and immediately came up with the method of sacrificing an arm to save the body.
"However, if we abandon those things, the road ahead will become very difficult. Without enough food and water, many people may die while crossing the Visas Wasteland." Os lowered his head and added quietly.
After they finished speaking, the entire carriage fell silent. Baron Kluo and Os were even considering whether they should abandon some of the people and flee alone with the core members.
Feeling the heavy atmosphere in the carriage, Green said with a faint smile, "It's not that serious yet. Even if they have five Knights, I can still handle them."
Hearing Green's words, the baron and Os raised their heads and stared at him in disbelief. Their eyes were full of hope and confusion.
"My archery is excellent. As long as you can hold off the one who feels stronger to me, I can deal with the other four." Green spoke with complete confidence, as though crushing four ants to death.
"Green, are you really sure? This isn't something to joke about." Though he knew Green was special, the baron had never seen Green's true power, and his tone remained full of concern.
"Don't worry, Baron. If I say this, then I'm certain. I wouldn't risk Old Green's safety, would I?"
Green's words were highly effective. Everyone knew of Green's relationship with Old Green; Green certainly would not take such a risk.
Seeing that Baron Kluo and Os had agreed, Green quietly laid out his plan. The baron and Os leaned in, listening carefully to his arrangements.
When Baron Kluo and Os left the carriage, both wore broad smiles, without the slightest trace of worry on their faces.
After greeting Green, they rode back to their own carriages. However, each of them carried a small bottle in his hand as they left.
"Captain, when do we attack? It's been so long already. Are we still going to keep watching?" Among the group following behind the convoy, a young man asked the extremely burly man beside him in an irritated tone.
"White, put away that impatience. Is that any way to speak to the captain?" Before the man called captain could answer, another older man, whose eyes showed maturity and steadiness, rebuked the youth.
"I'm just anxious, Instructor Dis. It's not easy getting sent on a mission. We have to bring back some spoils." The young man's tone immediately softened as he defended himself.
At that moment, the man called captain finished observing. Looking at the young men beneath him, all eager to distinguish themselves, he shook his head slightly.
But thinking of the intelligence stating that there should only be two Knight-class fighters in the enemy carriages, while his side could easily overwhelm them, he relaxed his guard.
"All right. The sun will set soon. Once it does, they'll definitely stop to rest. We'll launch a surprise attack then." The captain made the final decision.
"Haha, just watch my performance then. But when it comes to the spoils, there are several girls I've taken a liking to. Don't fight me for them." As White spoke, a twisted smile appeared on his face.
The others beside him all shuddered at the sight of White's smile.
White had always delighted in tormenting others, especially women he took a fancy to. By the end, they were usually left unrecognizable. Yet they had to admit that White had the right to act this way. He had begun practicing the Breathing Method early, and after becoming a Knight Apprentice, his progress had been meteoric. In only three years, he had become a Formal Knight. Within the legion, he was one of those most likely to break through and become a Grand Knight, so no one dared restrain him.
The only person who could keep White in check was Dis. As the one who had discovered White, Dis commanded White's exceptional respect.
On the woodland path, both sides harbored their own thoughts as they awaited the coming night.
