In a corner of the battlefield, an utterly exhausted Black Wizard unleashed Chain Lightning, shattering the Void Beast before him, which had taken on a Wizard's form. White lightning then appeared across the surface of his own body. His movements stiffened just as he was about to attack again, and he plummeted from the sky.
Fortunately, a Wizard nearby noticed. A blue-green light enveloped the falling Black Wizard and transported him to the rear of the battlefield.
Such incidents had become extremely common on the battlefield, affecting both Wizards and Void Beasts.
However, while Wizards helped one another and sent those suffering Elemental Backlash to the rear, a Void Beast in the same situation was immediately surrounded and attacked by its fellows, its body torn to shreds.
After discovering this trait of the Void Beasts, the Top-Tier Wizards had the Wizards alter their battle plans accordingly. By luring the Void Beasts into imitating Wizards and casting Sorcery, they could make them suffer Elemental Backlash, throw the Void Beast front lines into disarray, and ease the pressure on the entire front.
