Potionology, Prophecy Studies, Choosing a Subject

"High-demand subjects let you learn more, but they also place higher demands on students during assessments and come with fiercer competition. Low-demand subjects teach less, but their assessment requirements are much lower, and the competition is relatively smaller."

"Choosing your subjects is very important."

"On a wizard's road to seeking truth, you will often need all kinds of cultivation resources. And the subjects you choose are gold mines that can help you acquire those resources."

Leo fell into thought at those words.

Though wizards in this world were extraordinary professionals, they still had to hustle for a living and earn Magic Stones.

Looked at that way, they were not much different from ordinary people.

Chris asked in confusion, "Wizard Sally, even a genius like Leo, whose meditation speed is incredibly fast, needs to earn Magic Stones? Won't the Tower of Dawn nurture him?"

Sally gave a light laugh and shook her head. "Even a genius with Level 6 spiritual talent still needs to earn Magic Stones."

"If spiritual talent alone could determine a wizard's upper limit, then the wizarding world would have no need for all sorts of research laboratories."

"Wizards belong to a world that constantly renews itself."

"Spiritual talent can only let you go farther in the early stages. The farther you get, the less useful spiritual talent becomes. By then, what matters more is your exploration of knowledge and your pursuit of truth."

Sally's words were somewhat grandiose. Leo did not wholly believe them, but Chris beside him was flushed with excitement, his hands clenched into fists and his eyes shining brightly, as though in the next moment they would become the truth-seeking wizards Sally had described.

There was one thing Sally had not mentioned.

Most wizards never made it out of those "early stages."

Talent was indeed not everything, but those without talent did not even have an early stage. They were eliminated before long.

Leo's gaze swept over the words on the white sheet.

"Potionology, Magitech Studies..."

The white sheet listed quite a few subjects.

Each subject had also been ranked according to popularity.

Potionology ranked first among them.

Chris's eyes darted about as he asked, "Wizard Sally, which subject are the wizards in the Tower of Dawn best at?"

Sally pondered briefly. "Probably Prophecy Studies."

At that, Sally glanced at Leo for some unknown reason.

"However, Prophecy Studies has a threshold for practice, and it is very easy to run into a wall."

Hearing that, Chris looked at the top-ranked Potionology and said, "Then I'll choose Potionology."

"I... I'll choose Potionology... no, no, Prophecy Studies instead," Molly said beside him.

Leo was still looking over the subjects listed above.

He was considering which subject had the most entries in the catalog.

In the end, Leo fixed his gaze on Potionology at the very top.

Leo said, "Wizard Sally, I will choose Potionology as well."

"Huh?" Sally had shown no reaction when Chris and Molly made their choices, but when it came to Leo, she looked puzzled.

Sally said, "Danville, you could actually choose a subject related to combat spells. As a Prossian, you possess an innate combat instinct and physique. The combat wizards' spell research laboratories should welcome you warmly."

Leo was only half-convinced.

Although Sally, as a teaching assistant, might know the Tower of Dawn better than he did, recalling Lane's attitude and how he had repeatedly hit walls while searching for a gathering before, Leo still said, "Wizard Sally, I personally have some interest in Potionology."

The catalog handbook could guarantee Leo's lower limit in Potionology, so he did not need to worry about failing to learn it.

Choosing a popular subject would also make it easier to find a research laboratory in the future.

Sally said, "If you are interested, then I will help you choose this subject."

Sally did not try to dissuade him.

She was only responsible for offering advice. How to choose was Leo's own decision.

After Leo and the other two had chosen their subjects, Sally gave each of them a book.

Molly received Basic Prophecy Studies.

Leo and Chris received Basic Potionology.

Leo remembered this book. He flipped through it and found that it was the one he had borrowed from Nova's pile of books before.

Sally said, "As for subjects, Potionology is what I specialize in. Danville and Chris, I will continue to instruct you both from now on."

The moment Molly heard that, she urgently stretched out her hand. "Teaching Assistant Sally, then I want to choose Potionology too."

Sally waved her hand. "Stay calm, Molly. Although Teaching Assistant Tesla and I are not skilled in Prophecy Studies, we will not leave you to study on your own."

"I will arrange for an outstanding wizard of the Prophecy Studies school from the Esmond Gathering's graduate students to guide you through the basics."

After hearing this, Molly still clutched at her clothes, looking quite worried.

Sally said gently, "Besides, the subject you choose at the beginning does not mean you can only specialize in that subject from then on."

"For subjects, we teach in fourteen-day periods."

"We will only teach you for fourteen days, enough for you to master the basics of that subject."

"After fourteen days, you may freely switch to another subject."

"After you switch subjects, we will likewise only teach you for fourteen days."

Hearing Sally say this, Molly finally relaxed for the moment.

Just then, Leo asked, "Wizard Sally, after fourteen days, how are we supposed to continue studying the subject we chose in greater depth?"

Sally said, "Subjects are connected to research laboratories. Beyond the basics, you will need to study in other wizards' research laboratories."

Chris asked, "Wizard Sally, if we find that a subject does not suit us, will switching subjects affect our Comprehensive Assessment score?"

Sally said, "No. Strictly speaking, this is not switching subjects, but taking additional subjects. As long as you have enough Magic Stones to pay the annual tuition, you may continue taking more subjects until you are satisfied."

"Not only you—even teaching assistants like us are required to take multiple subjects before we can serve as teaching assistants."

"Any other questions?"

Only after Sally confirmed that no one else had anything to ask did she continue, "Next, preparations for the courses."

"Classes will begin in three days."

"Before that, however, you need to prepare a few things."

"Danville and Chris, you need to buy Fish-Fragrant Herb."

"Molly, you need to buy Black-Tailed Crane feathers."

"There is a wizard market in the Tower of Dawn. Go buy them there. I will recommend a shop I often visit."

Sally held out her hand, and three black Magic Stones appeared in her palm.

Leo and the others each took a Magic Stone and carefully put it away.

Molly in particular, timid as she was, wrapped her Magic Stone layer upon layer, terrified that it might fall.

"All right, you may go back now."

Chris and Molly left one after another, but Leo did not move.

Sally raised her head. "Danville, is there anything else?"

"Yes, Wizard Sally," Leo said. "There is a question about Arcane Hand that I would like to ask you."
