Power Progression

Period Household Development
Early Wu Tan City period The Xiao Household was one of Wu Tan City's three major clans, but lacked the confidence to destroy the Jia Lie Clan because the Jia Lie and Oba Clans could potentially unite against it. Tianyang Wine nevertheless greatly improved its financial position. 1 61
Resource infusion Xiao Yang returned from the Magical Beast Mountain Range with pills, Black-Tier cultivation methods and Dou Techniques, Spirit Artifacts, and refining knowledge, substantially improving the household's future cultivation resources and armaments. 54 55
Jia Lie Clan campaign Xiao Zhan mobilized the three great elders, nearly a dozen Dou Masters, and more than thirty Dou Zhe for a nighttime assault that annihilated the Jia Lie Clan's principal combatants and allowed the Xiao Household to seize its assets. 61 62
Wu Tan City consolidation The Jia Lie Clan's fall brought the Xiao Household additional businesses, gold, medicinal ingredients, and territory for expansion; the Oba Clan subsequently withdrew from Wu Tan City. 62 63
Defense against the Dou Ling extortionist Even Xiao Zhan, the elders, guards, and Fourth-Order Puppets were initially overwhelmed by an Eight-Star Dou Ling. Xiao Yang's arrival and breakthrough to Nine-Star Da Dou Shi allowed him to kill the attacker and preserve the household. 68 69 70
Post-departure defenses Before leaving for Jia Nan Academy, Xiao Yang repaired and strengthened three Fourth-Order Puppets to roughly Five-Star Dou Spirit strength and entrusted them to Xiao Zhan for the household's protection. 75

Background / History

The Xiao Household was relocating to Wu Tan City when Xiao Yang's parents, who were responsible for covering the household's main force, died while holding the rear. Their son was subsequently raised by Xiao Zhan and his wife. 1

According to Xiao Yan, the household's ancestors were once prosperous and possessed numerous decent Dou Techniques and cultivation methods. After fleeing from the imperial capital to Wu Tan City, many of those inheritances were lost. 24

Xiao Yang's distillation of high-proof liquor significantly expanded the household's brewery business. Tianyang Wine became highly popular, and the household's income reportedly at least doubled compared with its prior level. 1

The household's position changed drastically after Xiao Yang returned from the Magical Beast Mountain Range. He contributed high-grade pills, Black-Tier cultivation methods and Dou Techniques, Spirit Artifacts, and later the Jia Lie Clan's seized resources, giving the household opportunities far beyond its former inheritance. 54 55 62 63

Organization and Resources

Leadership

  • Xiao Zhan — Patriarch; oversees major household affairs, regulates access to the Dou Qi Pavilion, and treats Xiao Yang as a son. He later directs the Jia Lie Clan campaign, manages the seizure of its holdings, and receives powerful resources and defensive puppets from Xiao Yang. 4 16 61 63 75
  • Three Great Elders — Senior leaders who attend important household deliberations, including the aftermath of Nalan Yanran's broken-engagement visit. They later join Xiao Zhan in the assault on the Jia Lie Clan and the defense against the Eight-Star Dou Ling. 4 61 68 69
  • First Elder — The leading elder who assists Xiao Zhan and Xiao Yang against Jia Lie Bi and Jia Lie Nu, then supervises reconstruction after the Dou Ling's attack on the household compound. 61 62 70
  • Xiao Hongyi — Conducts Dou Qi testing and oversees the challenge procedure for failed assessments. 2
  • Xiao Mingtian — A Dou Master stationed at the Battle Skill Hall; supervises spars and teaches battle-skill usage. 5
  • Otto — Guard captain who oversees the guard training area and supports Xiao Yang's sparring requests. 14 15

Businesses

  • Tianyang Wine — The household's signature strong liquor, produced using Xiao Yang's distillation methods. Its limited production and popularity draw mercenaries to Xiao Household restaurants and the marketplace. 1 11
  • Restaurants — The household operates restaurants in Wu Tan City and acquired three East Street restaurants from the Jia Lie Clan after Xiao Yang defeated Galeo in a wager. Xiao Yang entrusted their management to Xiao Zhan. 11 12
  • Marketplace security — Xiao Household guards patrol the market and intervene when members are threatened, as seen when Payne's group confronted Galeo's men. 10 12
  • Former Jia Lie Clan holdings — Following the rival clan's destruction, the Xiao Household seized its businesses, gold, medicinal ingredients, properties, and other assets, creating major opportunities for expansion in Wu Tan City. 62 63

Cultivation Facilities

  • Battle Skill Hall — A training hall with an adjacent sparring ground for household members. A Dou Master is stationed there to supervise practice and prevent serious injury. 5
  • Dou Qi Pavilion — A strictly guarded repository for cultivation methods, normally forbidden to household members without permission. It opens after the coming-of-age ceremony, allowing eligible members to select one attribute-compatible method within two hours. 16
    • At the time of Xiao Yang's coming-of-age ceremony, the household's best publicly available cultivation method was High Yellow Tier.
    • At that time, its sole Black Tier cultivation method was personally held by Xiao Zhan and restricted to the patriarch. 16
    • Xiao Yang later provided numerous Black-Tier cultivation methods and Dou Techniques for the household to copy and distribute, including High Black-Tier techniques such as Wind Rises, Clouds Surge, Flame Tempering the Heart, and Blazing Flame Fist. 54 55
  • Guard training ground — Guards generally train and spar together in a dedicated area near their shared living quarters. 14

Armaments and Defenses

  • Spirit Artifacts — Xiao Yang supplied Xiao Zhan and the household with artifacts including a token, Spatial Ring, saber, light armor, and other equipment forged through his artifact-refining inheritance. 55
  • Fourth-Order Puppets — The household deployed Xiao Yang's puppets during the battle against the Eight-Star Dou Ling. Though insufficient to defeat a true Dou Ling, the three later repaired puppets remained valuable defensive assets under Xiao Zhan's control. 69 75
  • Magical Beast Mountain Range map — The household maintains costly intelligence maps marking nearby magical-beast territories and resource locations; Xiao Zhan provided one to Xiao Yang for his training expedition. 63

Household Culture

The household places strong importance on cultivation assessments, combat ability, and advancement. Members who fail an initial test may challenge a successful participant for a passing result, while the coming-of-age ceremony includes a formal retest. 2 15

Despite its emphasis on strength, the household shows unusually broad support for Xiao Yang because his businesses increased allowances and cultivation resources. Several members volunteered to lose their challenge matches so that he could pass his assessment. 2

Xiao Yang's later cross-tier victories transformed the household's view of him from gratitude as a benefactor to awe at his combat potential. 7

After Xiao Yang displayed power sufficient to destroy the Jia Lie Clan and later kill an Eight-Star Dou Ling, even senior household members treated him with marked respect. The household's collective assault on the Jia Lie Clan also demonstrated a willingness to use decisive force to remove future threats. 62 63 71

Xun'er helped Xiao Yi Xian settle into a courtyard near her own after Xiao Yang brought her back from the Magical Beast Mountain Range, incorporating Xiao Yang's companion into the household's immediate social circle. 53 56 57

Story Role / Major Arcs

Early Assessments and Training

Xiao Yang begins as a Sixth-Stage Dou Qi member whose household standing is already high because of his commercial contributions. He passes the clan assessment by defeating Xiao Mu, a Seventh-Stage Dou Qi cultivator. 1 2 3

At the Battle Skill Hall, he spars with numerous household members and defeats cultivators up to the Ninth Stage of Dou Qi after advancing to the Seventh Stage himself. 6 7

Three-Year Pact Incident

The household receives Nalan Yanran and representatives of the Misty Cloud Sect for her dissolution of the engagement with Xiao Yan. Xiao Zhan and the three great elders represent the household during the confrontation. 4

After Xiao Yan establishes the Three-Year Pact, Xiao Zhan asks Xiao Yang to watch over and comfort him, then leaves to discuss how the household should address the incident's consequences. 4

Jia Lie Clan Conflict

When Galeo harasses Xun'er near the Xiao Household Market, Xiao Yan arrives with household guards to confront him. 10

Galeo wagers the Jia Lie Clan's wholesale rights and three East Street restaurant deeds against access to Tianyang Wine. Xiao Yang defeats him, and the household gains the restaurants through the signed contract. 11 12

After Xiao Yang returned with Xiao Yi Xian, Galeo joined Liu Xi in attempting to abduct Xun'er and Xiao Yi Xian. Xiao Yang and Xiao Yi Xian defeated their guards, killed Liu Xi, and left Galeo permanently crippled, poisoned, and with his Dou Qi vortex destroyed. 58 59 60

Xiao Yang then persuaded Xiao Zhan to eliminate the Jia Lie Clan completely. Xiao Zhan, the three great elders, the household's Dou Masters, and its Dou Zhe launched a coordinated nighttime attack, killing Jia Lie Bi, Jia Lie Nu, and the clan's principal fighters. 61 62

The Xiao Household absorbed the Jia Lie Clan's assets and businesses after its collapse. To prevent future retaliation, its leadership arranged for younger Jia Lie members to be relocated while older survivors were secretly hunted after being publicly expelled. 62 63

Coming-of-Age Ceremony

At the ceremony, Xiao Yang's retest reveals that he has risen from Sixth-Stage to Ninth-Stage Dou Qi in one month. The result shocks both household members and Wu Tan City's invited dignitaries, prompting outside forces to seek closer ties with the Xiao Household. 16

Afterward, Xiao Yang enters the Dou Qi Pavilion and selects the fire-attributed High Yellow Tier cultivation method Flame Refinement Incineration. 16

Xiao Yang's Return and Household Reinforcement

Xiao Yang returned to the Xiao Household from the Magical Beast Mountain Range aboard Xiao Yi Xian's Blue Eagle, bringing Xiao Yi Xian with him as a trusted companion. Xiao Yan met them on the back mountain, while Xun'er arranged accommodation for Xiao Yi Xian near her own courtyard. 53

Xiao Yang subsequently gave Xiao Zhan cultivation resources obtained during his travels, including a Three-Line Green Spirit Pill, Purple Heart Barrier-Breaking Pills, numerous Black-Tier techniques, and several Spirit Artifacts. Xiao Zhan accepted the items on behalf of the household, recognizing their potential to transform its strength. 54 55

Dou Ling Extortion Incident

A Fourth-Rank Alchemist claiming to be Liu Xi's master arrived after the Jia Lie Clan's destruction and attempted to extort the Xiao Household for millions of gold coins. His actual motivation was greed rather than grief for his registered disciple. 67 68

The alchemist, an Eight-Star Dou Ling, overwhelmed Xiao Zhan, the great elders, household guards, and Fourth-Order Puppets. Xiao Yang returned in time to protect the household, broke through to Nine-Star Da Dou Shi, and killed the attacker with the support of his puppets. 69 70

After the battle, Xiao Yang distributed healing pills to the injured household members. News that the Xiao Household had slain a Dou Ling shocked Wu Tan City's major factions and brought a new wave of visitors bearing gifts. 70 71

Jia Nan Academy Departure

Xiao Yang, Xun'er, Xiao Yi Xian, Xiao Yu, and two qualified Xiao Household members departed for Jia Nan Academy with Instructor Irina's flying-Griffin convoy. Xiao Yang, Xun'er, and Xiao Yi Xian's exceptional cultivation caused Jia Nan Academy to regard them as peerless talents, further elevating the Xiao Household's reputation. 71 73 74

Before leaving, Xiao Yang entrusted three strengthened Fourth-Order Puppets to Xiao Zhan, ensuring that the household retained substantial defensive power during his absence. 75
