My Name Is Actually

A hospital somewhere in Tokyo, Japan.

"I'm not dead? Then where is this? This is... I've been reborn, and I was just born?"

When Bai Yang opened his eyes, he found a white ceiling before him. When he saw his hands, he confirmed that he had been reborn.

He fell into a daze, but overwhelming drowsiness soon interrupted his confusion.

While half-conscious, he heard some voices. He knew it was Japanese, though that was before—he should call it his previous life now.

Although he had liked Japanese anime in his previous life, that did not mean he could understand all of it. Fortunately, he caught a few words he understood.

Sounds like "namai akila, sendou akila." After that, he knew nothing.

Bai Yang's childhood was basically spent sleeping.

After the doctors repeatedly assured them, his parents stopped worrying about him. They simply thought he had been born sleepy and would grow out of it when he got older.

However, he himself did not know that although his previous life had given him no athletic talent whatsoever—

In fact, as a child, he had run slower than even the slowest girl in his class. Yet he possessed great natural talent in more static areas, whether in sports or academics.

He had advantages such as an active mind and strong analytical ability. In sports, for example, he had talents such as a powerful sense of timing and Dynamic Vision.

He simply had never noticed the difference between himself and others.

All of those abilities worked through the brain, so they had come with him directly.

In particular, he loved thinking. Anything that interested him, he would analyze endlessly. Even when he slept, he spent the time before falling asleep thinking, which led to his brain being developed extremely thoroughly and his mental abilities constantly improving.

This rebirth, however, had clearly left his brain unable to contain such active thoughts. His thinking was truly developing this life's brain, which was why he was so sleepy.

It was not until a month later that he could stay awake for periods of time. By then, he had fully accepted reality.

"I remember hearing something when I was first born in this life...

Namai, akila, sendou akila. Namai means name, so akila and sendou akila must be my name. I'm not completely sure about the pronunciation.

Akila, akila, Akira?

Akira should be my given name. Then is my name Sendou Akira? Isn't that how Sendou Akira's name is pronounced? My name is Sendou Akira? Seriously?!"

"Then have I transmigrated into the world of Slam Dunk? Or is it just a coincidence that we share the same name? Or did I get the pronunciation wrong?"

Lost in such thoughts, Bai Yang, who had gained the name Sendou after being reborn, was once again defeated by fatigue and fell asleep.

This was only a minor interlude. Before long, the slightly more energetic little Sendou learned that he was not in the world of Slam Dunk. He merely happened to share the same name.

Perhaps his father was a fan of Sendou Akira.

The reason was that when Sendou was a few months old, he saw the date on television. The events of Slam Dunk took place in 1994. If he were the Sendou from Slam Dunk, he could not possibly have been born in the 1990s.

Because of his brain, Sendou learned extremely quickly. He also learned to speak far faster than ordinary children, and his family regarded him as a little genius. As he grew up, he learned that his father was a very busy man.

Although he did not know what his father was busy with, and his father was rarely home, he learned from some of the decorations in the house that his father liked soccer. But that had nothing to do with him.

When Sendou first started elementary school, he received his first birthday present: a soccer ball. But anyone could tell that Sendou did not have the curiosity toward new things that other children had. (What curiosity would an adult have, damn it!)

Although his father was a soccer fan, he was not the kind of soccer maniac who would force his son to learn soccer. Life thus continued on in an uneventful fashion.

The first chapter merely explained the protagonist's situation. The real plot would begin in Chapter Two.
