A Weekend Date
After hastily finishing breakfast, Efnir drove the car out of the garage.
Yukina called Kanade Kotone.
"Huh? Kanade's already at school...?"
Yukina froze for a moment, then understood.
Normally, Yukina always arrived at the classroom earlier than Kanade Kotone, but today was different. She and her sister had been delayed at home for quite a while, so naturally, they were much later than usual.
"Is your arm feeling better? Um... sorry, I'll take care of you at noon today, okay? Then... see you later. Bye."
After briefly asking about Kanade Kotone's arm recovery, Yukina hung up.
"Is Kanade doing okay?"
With one hand on the steering wheel, Efnir asked softly.
"She told me not to worry," Yukina said. Speaking of her friend Kanade Kotone, she sighed, her gaze wandering. "Even so, I can't help feeling sorry for her. She's my best friend..."
Yukina truly had very few friends.
She had classmates she used to keep in touch with during middle school, but after entering high school, they immediately lost contact. Yukina occasionally saw their updates on social media, but she never had the courage to tap on them.
A friendship rekindled after so long would probably only add another layer of awkwardness.
"Don't worry. She'll get better."
Efnir comforted her.
"Yeah!"
Though it had not been intentional, Kanade Kotone had indeed been hurt by Yukina, and Yukina had always felt guilty about it.
The changes in Yukina's body were real, but from Efnir's observations, Yukina's control over this unfamiliar power was fairly stable. Something like hurting a classmate again probably would not happen, so she had not specifically asked for leave on Yukina's behalf.
