Background / History

Yanase Naoto was a university student when a large-scale White Hole Incident changed his body into that of a girl. The transformation also made her a rare individual compatible with Order Force. After her First Synchronization, the Orderkeepers recruited her as an Agent and assigned her the codename Ephnel; the identity “Efnir” emerged from that event. 1

Efnir initially needed considerable time to adapt to Agent life. During her own First Synchronization, she protected classmates during a Corruption incident, drew an Erosion Entity away from them, and destroyed it despite being badly injured. Futaba Erii was the first classmate to reach her afterward. 1 100

Although Shiomi Yukina had originally been the Orderkeepers' chosen compatible candidate, Efnir accepted the burden of that fate herself. She considers her own life expendable if it means protecting Yukina. 8

She later became Xijing City's strongest Agent and an official spokesperson for the Orderkeepers. Her public appearances promote Agents and contribute revenue to city construction, while her battlefield reputation makes her a central symbol of reassurance during Erosion Disasters. 8 139

Appearance

Efnir's appearance differs drastically between her ordinary state and Exile Form. In combat, she is recognized for silver hair, a silver long spear, and a compact, agile fighting style; outside Synchronization, she has black hair and can pass as an ordinary young woman. 131 203

Personality

Efnir is disciplined, composed, and intensely protective. In emergencies, she rapidly assumes command, prioritizes evacuation, and gives her juniors clear orders even while injured or exhausted. 3 5 131

She carries strong guilt over the casualties she cannot prevent, particularly Fifina's injuries during the Xijing Erosion Disaster. Her determination to protect others is tempered by a pragmatic understanding that prolonged combat, exhaustion, and loss of Synchronization can turn an Agent into a danger to those they were meant to save. 5 7

In battle, Efnir is analytical and ruthless when necessary, but she retains empathy even toward enemies and victims of mutation. She attempts to understand hostile Apostles and the vine-infested woman in the tunnel before resorting to lethal force. 25 26 173

Despite her public image as an unwavering “Magical Girl,” Efnir is privately pessimistic about the future. Her strongest personal resolve is to protect Yukina, even if the wider world cannot be saved. 219

Stolen Beacon and Apostle Conspiracy

When the Beacon “Fifina” is stolen and a new Agent undergoes First Synchronization, Efnir investigates the candidate and discovers it is connected to Yukina. Her later capture and interrogation of an Apostle reveal that Yukina is an “Absolute Compatible Candidate” and suggest a conspiracy within her own organization. 20 24 26

Angel and Codename H Investigations

Efnir confronts the Angel and later battles Codename H, a hooded girl with unusual energy manipulation and recovery abilities. Her encounters with these enemies lead to the reawakening of her damaged right eye and the first signs of Dust-State Vision. 86 133 137
