Ch. 41What Lies Beyond the Sea
Key plot points and events
- Aburame Shibi leads Hyuga Satoru, Uchiha Rin, and Anko on an A-rank mission to eliminate bandits attacking merchant caravans in the southern Land of Fire. Because the bandits may be hiding in one of four locations, the team splits up: Shibi and Rin take one route, while Satoru and Anko investigate another.
- Near the coast, Shibi teases Satoru about his reputation as a young genius and his dream of world peace. Satoru takes the teasing lightly; Rin admits she is impressed by his strength.
- At a concealed cave, Satoru uses his Byakugan to identify nine bandits, including three Chunin. Anko seems distracted and fails to respond when he assigns her part of the fight.
- Satoru enters alone. He kills the bandits with Fang, then repels a barrage of weapons and explosive tags using his self-developed Heaven Rotation-Yang, a technique combining the Hyuga rotation with electromagnetic force. The reflected weapons and explosions destroy the entire group.
- After collecting proof of the mission’s completion, Satoru returns and asks Anko what is troubling her.
Character developments
- Satoru shows confidence in his abilities and handles the bandits efficiently. He has also become more accustomed to killing, contrasting with his earlier struggle with insomnia after his first kill. He reflects that death is an unavoidable part of a ninja’s life.
- Anko is unusually withdrawn and distracted, suggesting she is preoccupied by an undisclosed concern.
- Rin openly admires Satoru’s talent, especially after witnessing how decisively he defeated Kakashi.
- Shibi remains observant and lightly teasing, while recognizing Satoru’s ideals and abilities.
Significant themes

- Ingenuity and power: Satoru’s original techniques demonstrate how creativity can extend established abilities.
