Background

Nawaki graduated from the Academy alongside Hinata Tianyi and later reunited with him at the Land of Rain frontline. Through an arrangement involving Orochimaru, Tianyi was assigned to Nawaki’s Leaf Blade Squad as its medical-support and reconnaissance specialist. Nawaki enthusiastically welcomed his former classmate and envisioned the squad as a force that would undertake increasingly important missions for the village. 19 20

As the eldest direct grandson of the Senju Clan and the First Hokage’s grandson, Nawaki is regarded by Konoha’s leadership as a valuable prospect. Danzō identifies him as one of two individuals with the potential to awaken Wood Release, while Hiruzen believes battlefield experience is necessary for his growth. 19

Personality

Nawaki is energetic, idealistic, and openly affectionate toward his comrades. He is excited to reunite with Tianyi, considers him reliable, and readily speaks of the team’s future accomplishments. 20

He is highly ambitious and eager to prove himself as a shinobi worthy of Tsunade’s recognition. Before his first mission under Orochimaru, he views success as a step toward becoming a Chunin and showing his sister that he can stand on his own. 22

Formation of the Leaf Blade Squad

Nawaki reunites with Tianyi at the Land of Rain frontline and introduces him to Moonlight Kaede. He defines the squad’s intended roles as his own ninjutsu support, Kaede’s frontline assault, and Tianyi’s medical/reconnaissance support. 20

First Battle at the Rain Outpost

Under Orochimaru’s supervision, Nawaki joins Tianyi and Kaede in an operation to eliminate a Hidden Rain outpost. He initially favors a frontal attack but accepts Tianyi’s infiltration plan. During the battle, his Wind Release destroys the sentry post but alerts the defenders; he is then stabbed through the forearm, kicked away, and left severely injured. 23 24

Tianyi and Kaede cover Nawaki’s retreat while Tianyi remains behind to defeat the surviving enemies. Nawaki later feels guilty after seeing Tianyi’s condition and receiving Tsunade’s reprimand. 25 26

Poison Mist Assault

When Hanzo’s Salamander fills the battlefield with poison mist, Nawaki and Kaede follow Tianyi’s orders to evacuate wounded shinobi and protect the Medical Corps. Nawaki provides Tianyi with all seven of his remaining Explosive Tags before Tianyi infiltrates the enemy position. 37

After the battle, Nawaki proudly recounts Tianyi’s achievements and celebrates the recognition of Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru as the Three Sannin. 40

Orochimaru’s Training and Spar with Tianyi

Nawaki undergoes special training from Orochimaru focused on Earth Release and taijutsu. 47
