Since his rebirth, the Eternal Great Emperor had cultivated diligently every day. At last, he had set foot on the path of cultivation once more and even forged an unprecedented path of his own. Yet he still had an extremely long road ahead before he could return to his peak.
The Great Emperor Rebirth Version 1.0 had ended. Tian Yuan Continent was vast and rich in resources. Among the Five Continents, Central Continent was the most prosperous. As one of the Eleven Orthodox Sects, the Seeking Immortals Sect had flourished for a thousand years, with tens of thousands of disciples under its banner. Its sect master, Sword Saint Li, was renowned throughout Central Continent. The sect occupied a corner of Central Continent, its prestige unmatched. But righteousness and evil stood apart. As time passed, the curtain was slowly rising on a conspiracy concerning the survival of the Seeking Immortals Sect... Would it be justice, or evil? The Calamity of the Seeking Immortals Sect 2.0 was beginning... Activation required thirty days. Please check back promptly.
"Version update?"
Su Bei frowned. There was nothing unusual about a game version update, except that this one took a little too long.
And it might not necessarily be a bad thing. With a version update, the missions issued should change as well. Perhaps it would release more missions that he could complete.
Every version update brought a major event. This time, it was clearly the Seeking Immortals Sect's event.
The part about diligent cultivation, however, was something Su Bei seriously doubted.
Take a look at one of the missions from a few days ago.
All of a sudden, you gathered every material needed to cultivate the Great Sun Emperor Body Technique. After pulling up your pants and looking at your sleeping senior sister, you found everything unbearably dull.
Mission: Abstinence (One Day) Reward: Beginner Treasure Chest ×1
He had previously wondered how the Eternal Great Emperor had acquired the Sky Beast Blood. So this was how he had gotten it!
Su Bei had completed that mission right then and there, earning another Intelligence Enhancement Pill for free.
But the panel itself was stupid, so Su Bei was not surprised in the slightest.
By the time Su Bei returned to Tianhu Military Region,
Li Xiongshan was personally waiting for him. All told, he had only spent a little over a week in Jinnan Military Region, yet Su Bei felt as though a long time had passed.
"Good kid!"
Li Xiongshan grinned broadly as he welcomed Su Bei down, vigorously patting him on the shoulder. "I underestimated you. You've really brought glory to Tianhu! That old bastard from Jinnan calls me every day, trying to keep you there. I was truly afraid you wouldn't be able to resist the temptation!"
"How could that happen?" Su Bei said with a smile. "Uncle Xiong treats me so well. No matter how good Jinnan Military Region is, it can't compare to Tianhu."
Su Bei was telling the truth. Li Xiongshan was blunt and carefree, yet attentive beneath that rough exterior. He was open and forthright in both conduct and dealings, never withholding a single benefit that should be given. Perhaps because of first impressions, Su Bei found being around him exceptionally relaxing.
That was the biggest reason he was willing to stay in Tianhu Military Region. After all, he had barely spent any time here before, so he could not speak of any deep attachment.
"Exactly! What the hell do they know? They fall for every talent they see. If you stayed there, you'd be sent out on missions every day." Li Xiongshan laughed heartily. "Stay by my side for two years first. What's the difference between Tianhu and Jinnan? It's just switching from a small place to a bigger one."
"You'll have plenty to keep you busy later."
He had been in a great mood these past two days. After all, Su Bei was one of his people. Su Bei's outstanding performance outside reflected well on him. If Su Bei had gone unnoticed, Li Xiongshan would have been unhappy instead.
"Brother Liu." Su Bei did not forget Liu Shan and greeted him as well.
Liu Shan stood beside Li Xiongshan, looking at Su Bei with both warmth and envy in his eyes.
Although Li Xiongshan often mingled freely with his subordinates, Su Bei was the first person he had treated with such courtesy.
Even now, only a small group within the military regions knew about the Origin Devourer Beast. Tianhu had originally lacked any real information channels, but Su Bei had come from here.
Since Li Xiongshan knew, Liu Shan, as his most valued subordinate, naturally knew as well.
Not only that, Liu Shan knew that Jinnan Military Region had done far more than call every day. They had sent several lobbyists and promised considerable resources. Even he had been tempted by what he heard, all to transfer Su Bei over there.
Sure enough, as long as someone had strength, they would be welcome anywhere!
The group made their way grandly to Li Xiongshan's office.
Liu Shan knew there were some things he could learn later, but it would not be appropriate for him to be present while they were discussed. So he simply waited outside.
After Li Xiongshan sat down, Su Bei naturally poured two cups of tea from the table before taking a seat himself.
Li Xiongshan did not stop him. Smiling, he said, "Your military merits haven't been finalized yet."
"There are some complications here. Based on the merits for killing an Origin Devourer Beast, it wouldn't be strange to grant you the rank of Senior Colonel outright. If it had been a seventh-order Origin Devourer Beast, you could have been directly made a general."
"At first, according to the usual rules, they decided on the rank of lieutenant colonel and one Special Merit. But there were many objections from military headquarters, especially because it was an Origin Devourer Beast in the Nascent Stage. And there has never been an eighteen-year-old lieutenant colonel who was still a First-order Martial Artist."
As he spoke, Li Xiongshan's expression grew much more serious.
"They're also considering whether this merit should count as an individual Special Merit or a team Special Merit."
Su Bei shook his head. He was a smart man. The fact that the official document regarding his military merits had yet to come through told him there might be issues behind it.
He had not offended anyone. Even if someone wanted to steal credit, there was no way to take all of it. At most, his solo kill would become a team kill.
But there was indeed nothing wrong with that. Even if the other four had only been fleeing, they had still inflicted damage.
What remained was a question of appearances.
Judging by Lü Yan's behavior today, she probably knew something and perhaps did not know how to face him. But just as he had said in reply, he did not care much.
As long as they did not make it look too ugly, he truly did not mind sharing some of the credit. In fact, if he did not share any, that would not necessarily be good for him either.
Of course, there might be hidden circumstances he did not know about. That was not something he could concern himself with.
"But don't worry. No one can take away the credit that belongs to you."
Li Xiongshan spoke with absolute certainty. "We're not pushovers either!"
"Uncle Xiong, it's fine." Su Bei smiled. "It's only a little credit. I've already taken all the benefits, so they should at least get some soup."
"You don't mind?" Li Xiongshan froze, clearly not expecting Su Bei to react like this.
He had thought Su Bei would fly into a rage, or at the very least darken with anger.
"It's not that I don't mind. Don't I have you?" An embarrassed smile appeared on Su Bei's face. "If I were alone with no background at all, I'd definitely care if they swallowed everything. But if they just get some soup, what's the big deal?"
"It's best that you can think that way."
"We won't let you suffer a loss either."
Li Xiongshan smacked his lips, and his impression of Su Bei changed once again.
He knew when to advance and retreat, and he did not become angry just because he had rendered meritorious service. Such temperament was truly rare.
"What are your plans from here on out?"
After saying that, he did not wait for Su Bei to answer before continuing.
"Before, I said that once you came out of the Shattered Battlefield, your military merits would be enough to promote you to Second Lieutenant. Becoming a guard under me wouldn't have been beneath you."
"But now, with the merit of killing an Origin Devourer Beast, even if some is shared out, you'll at least be a captain. That position would be a little beneath you."
"Become a Martial Arts Instructor for marksmanship and fist techniques."
Su Bei was stunned.
"Is that appropriate?"
A Martial Arts Instructor was not an official rank, but held considerable status within the military. They were responsible for leading soldiers' martial cultivation, so the required martial realm was not low.
And because they held the profession of instructor, they were highly respected within the military as well.
Martial Arts Instructors also had one special privilege: they could freely consult all martial arts within their authority!
That was a genuine benefit!
"If you aren't suitable, then no one in our military is."
