Background

Zhang Feiyu is the son of the Ninth Hall Master of Wuji Martial Hall. His standing within the hall's second-generation circle is weakened by his status as an illegitimate child and by the poor reception given to his mother within the martial hall. Sun Zicheng, son of the Third Hall Master, and his peers use this status to demean him and challenge his authority over resources. 14 15 16

Before meeting Su Bei, Zhang cultivated the high-level Dragon Tiger Leopard Gene Method from childhood. Though he possessed considerable potential and resources, his Tiger Stance had only reached Minor Accomplishment before Su Bei's breakthrough exposed the disparity in their martial comprehension. 6 10

He initially engaged Su Bei as a high-level sparring opponent. Their repeated matches changed the relationship from rivalry to friendship: Zhang funded Su Bei's training equipment, assisted his cultivation of the Piercing Sun Spear Technique, and began addressing him as “Brother Bei.” 5 9 12
