Chapter 20: I Was Clearly an Execution Player
After a round of Freljord-style banter, Charlie and Jie Jian's spar officially began.
The spar had yet to start, but Charlie seemed extremely confident in his own abilities.
With a sweep of his arm, a long spear resembling a fountain pen appeared in his hand.
Seeing this, Jie Jian could not help asking:
"Hey, Charlie, did that pen-spear come with your cursed technique?"
"What pen-spear? This is the G Staff!"
Charlie first corrected Jie Jian irritably, then answered his question anyway.
"Sort of. I don't know how it works either. It's a pen I've always carried with me. Once I pour cursed energy into it, it turns into this."
Jie Jian nodded upon hearing that, a trace of envy appearing in his eyes.
When he had read the manga before, he had been very interested in all the various cursed tools in Jujutsu Kaisen.
After joining the challenge, he had badly wanted to get a cursed tool, but he had not had the chance so far.
Seeing the G Staff, Jie Jian was also very curious.
Logically speaking, Charlie had only become a sorcerer yesterday. He should not have had the opportunity to obtain a cursed tool elsewhere, which was why Jie Jian had asked where it came from.
After hearing that the cursed tool had transformed from the pen Charlie carried around, Jie Jian asked curiously.
"By the way, can only you use this G Staff?"
That question stumped Charlie.
He tilted his head in confusion. "Uh... I don't know either. The G Staff is related to my cursed technique, so it probably won't work if someone else picks it up, right?"
Charlie's cursed technique was Future Sight.
Of course, this "foresight" could not predict everything. It could only foresee an enemy's movements.
When Charlie activated his technique through the G Staff, the "pen nib" of the staff began accumulating ink.
Once enough ink had gathered, the nib would glow, and a manga panel would appear on his opponent's chest.
Through that manga panel, Charlie could see what his opponent would do a few seconds later.
At its most basic level, Future Sight predicted one second ahead. If more ink was accumulated, he could even see further into the future.
However, the flaw in this technique was obvious: Charlie had to see the future in the manga panel with his own eyes.
If the enemy hid in one of his blind spots, Charlie would not be able to see anything.
Jie Jian looked enviously at the G Staff in Charlie's hand.
A cursed tool you could carry around like that was convenient. When it was not needed, it was a pen you could keep in your pocket; when it was needed, it became a weapon for fighting.
"Charlie, can I give your cursed tool a try?"
Charlie casually nodded upon hearing that. Without much thought, he tossed the G Staff over.
As Charlie's flow of cursed energy ceased, the staff reverted to its original pen form in midair.
Jie Jian caught the pen with a surprised look. He had not expected Charlie to be so straightforward, lending it to him without a word.
"Damn, brother, you're seriously a real one."
"You already called me brother, so what else is there to say? Just take a look."
The instant he caught the pen, Jie Jian began pouring cursed energy into it.
However, to his disappointment, his cursed energy seemed to hit a wall. He could not inject it into the pen at all.
"Looks like it really doesn't work. I can't get my cursed energy into it."
Jie Jian shook his head regretfully and handed the pen back to Charlie.
"I already told you it wouldn't work. It's just an ordinary pen."
A flash of understanding crossed Jie Jian's mind.
It seemed this pen was not actually a cursed tool. Its transformation was most likely the result of Charlie's cursed technique.
As long as Charlie himself was around, he could turn any pen into the G Staff required to use his technique.
Setting aside the matter of the cursed tool, Jie Jian bounced in place to warm up.
"Forget it, Charlie. Let's stop worrying about the cursed tool and start sparring already!"
Charlie did not refuse. He flicked the G Staff like he was flourishing a spear and said,
"Sure. I want to test my technique too."
Once he confirmed Charlie was ready, Jie Jian shot forward in an instant, charging straight at Charlie's face.
The special lightning cursed energy inherent to Undying Thunder granted Jie Jian tremendous explosive power. In the span of a single breath, he had arrived before Charlie.
Jie Jian half-curled his hand into a claw.
A massive amount of lightning gathered in his palm, crackling loudly!
Jie Jian slashed his claw down at Charlie. Just as he thought he would land the hit, Charlie suddenly sprang to the side, narrowly dodging at the absolute limit of his body's movement.
"Hm!"
Jie Jian was startled. He had not expected Charlie's reaction to be so fast!
Without stopping, he swung his palm at Charlie again.
Yet to Jie Jian's surprise, Charlie dodged all three of his next attacks as well!
Not only that, but Charlie took advantage of the gaps between Jie Jian's attacks to thrust the G Staff toward Jie Jian's arm.
The angle of that strike was incredibly tricky. Jie Jian had not even seen it at first.
Only when the staff's pen nib pierced his arm did he realize that he had been attacked instead.
With a ripping sound, a wound several centimeters long was sliced into Jie Jian's arm.
Jie Jian stared at the wound on his arm in shock.
He had not expected that, despite possessing Special Grade strength, Charlie would be the first to injure him.
Were there really this many talented people in Jujutsu Society?
He looked at Charlie. "Damn, brother, you really are a stat monster. Your attacks hit that hard?"
Charlie took the chance to retreat several meters while Jie Jian was stunned.
Charlie was not as relaxed as he looked. He panted as he looked at Jie Jian.
"It's just the effect of my cursed technique."
Charlie's mention of his "cursed technique" caught Jie Jian's attention.
He looked at the G Staff and clearly saw that quite a bit of ink had gathered on the staff's pen nib.
"You'd already started preparing for battle!"
The amount of ink on the G Staff was clearly abnormal. Charlie had obviously been gathering ink for longer than Jie Jian had imagined!
Clearly, Charlie had dodged his attacks earlier because he had seen their trajectories in advance.
Charlie smiled when he heard that. "Your landing posture was just too intimidating, so I made some preparations beforehand."
Jie Jian nodded slightly.
True enough, many sorcerers' abilities required advance preparation.
If one side was prepared, they could often gain a considerable advantage in battle.
Even the invincible Satoru Gojo had needed Utahime, Ijichi, and others to assist him before firing a 200% Hollow Purple during his battle with Sukuna.
Since Charlie had seen him, it was only reasonable for him to prepare in advance without knowing whether Jie Jian was friend or foe.
At that moment, Charlie continued.
"Enough about me. How are you doing? Do you still want to continue sparring?"
Charlie was naturally referring to the wound on Jie Jian's arm.
Jie Jian waved his hand carelessly and burst into laughter.
"What's a little wound like this? I can heal it in no time."
As soon as he finished speaking, cursed energy gathered over Jie Jian's wound.
The next moment, under Charlie's ghost-struck gaze, the bleeding wound began healing rapidly at a visible rate.
In only three seconds, the vicious wound vanished completely.
"Y-you... what kind of move was that?!"
"This? Just an ordinary Reverse Cursed Technique. You can think of it as a healing skill in a game."
Jie Jian made it sound casual, but to Charlie, it might as well have been an incomprehensible scripture.
He looked at Jie Jian like he was constipated.
"You're the one calling me a stat monster, but you're obviously the one with the most ridiculous stats!"
Jie Jian immediately retorted with a stiff expression.
"What stat monster? I'm not a stat monster. I was clearly an execution player, okay?!"
