Background / History

Before his birth, Sukuna was a twin. He devoured his own twin while still a fetus, consolidating and strengthening his power; the twin’s soul later reincarnated as Wasuke Itadori, Yuji Itadori’s grandfather. Sukuna himself was unaware of this connection until Jie Jian revealed it. 13

While residing within Yuji, Sukuna showed interest only in Satoru Gojo as a worthy opponent and dismissed Hajime Kashimo as beneath his notice. After Kashimo exposed Sukuna’s intent to change vessels, Sukuna exploited the Enchain vow’s one-minute window, converted his power into Yuji’s little finger, and forced Jie Jian to consume it. 13 14 15

Sukuna briefly incarnated in Jie Jian’s body, but intended from the outset to claim Megumi Fushiguro for the Ten Shadows Technique. Kenjaku aided this plan by using Yorozu—incarnated in Tsumiki Fushiguro’s body—to emotionally devastate Megumi and make possession easier. 15 16

He eventually possessed Megumi and prepared the Bath ritual to suppress Megumi’s soul and perfect his control over the body. When Hana Kurusu attempted to separate him from Megumi with Jacob’s Ladder, Sukuna deceived her by pretending Megumi had returned, then attacked her. 144 146

Sukuna’s appearance changes with his vessel and transformations. His original body is defined by two faces, four arms, four eyes, and an additional mouth on his abdomen. 13 167 197

Sukuna is contemptuous of weakness and selective about opponents. He ignored Kashimo’s demand for a duel, regarding Gojo as the only contemporary sorcerer worth his attention. 13

He is highly pragmatic and treats deception, sacrifice, and Binding Vows as ordinary tools of combat. He manipulated Yorozu’s obsession by promising her love, future, heart, and body solely to obtain her power; he later used a false request to see Jie Jian’s domain as a trap. 63 169 170

His pride is intense. Sukuna refused to evade a reflected slash because doing so would make him appear inferior to Jie Jian, yet he can rapidly abandon ineffective tactics when necessary, switching from domain attacks to Domain Amplification and close combat. 151 161
