Background

Setsuna is a reborn Hyuga Branch Family child burdened by the Caged Bird curse mark. When he was three, the soul of Otsutsuki Kaguya Hime appeared within him and initially attempted to use him as Karma for her resurrection. An unexplained force instead sealed her inside him, creating a relationship likened to that of a tailed beast and jinchūriki. 1

Kaguya’s true body remains sealed within the moon, but moonlight nourishes Setsuna’s Chakra, body, and Byakugan through their connection. After two years of coexistence, they agree that Setsuna will eventually free her; in return, Kaguya will lend him her power in danger. 1

At the Academy, Setsuna conceals both his curse mark and Kaguya’s presence beneath a white forehead band. He presents himself as polite and composed, while quietly training far beyond his peers. His defeat of Gyo Uchiha with the Byakugan and Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms establishes him as an exceptional Hyuga prodigy. 1 4
