Entering the Cultivation Manual Pavilion Again
Back at the foot of Great Sun Peak, Ye Yun followed a winding path toward his new cave dwelling.
After passing through a lush forest, Ye Yun arrived at his new cave dwelling. Ahead was where Great Sun Peak met the main peak, Purple Extreme Peak, and by a stroke of chance, a small valley had formed there. At the valley entrance stood a two-story pavilion built entirely from warm bamboo, gleaming like green jade.
Ye Yun was quite satisfied as he looked at his new dwelling. The surroundings were beautiful, and the spiritual energy was exceptionally abundant. Living and cultivating here would make his progress several points faster.
That senior brother from the Miscellaneous Affairs Hall had said there was a Cold Spring deep within the valley. Whenever the moon was full, the chill of the Cold Spring would erupt, turning the surrounding area bitterly cold. Ye Yun guessed that was probably why no one had been willing to live here.
As warriors increased their cultivation, their resistance to scorching heat, bitter cold, and such climates greatly improved. Yet Ye Yun was still very curious about just how cold the Cold Spring's chill was, to the point that even Qi Refining Realm warriors could not withstand it.
In truth, Ye Yun had another reason for choosing this place. He had discovered that the martial arts with which he had high compatibility all leaned toward cold and yin attributes, so he guessed that his physique was also inclined toward cold and yin. Living in a colder place like this should make cultivation a little faster as well.
He had once read an introduction to physiques in an ancient text. Every person was born with attributes corresponding to the ten energies that composed the spiritual energy of heaven and earth: metal, wood, water, fire, earth, ice, wind, lightning, yin, and yang. When someone close to the fire attribute cultivated martial arts of that same attribute, their compatibility would be higher, while their compatibility with martial arts of other attributes would be very low.
When a person's affinity for a certain attribute was extraordinarily outstanding, they became one of the legendary Spirit Bodies. That was also why Spirit Bodies cultivated so quickly.
Ye Yun had deduced all of this from his special ability. Moreover, he felt that this ability of his did not merely let him see his compatibility with cultivation methods—it should also be able to enhance that compatibility.
Ye Yun carried all his belongings into the pavilion and put them away. Then he cleaned the entire pavilion from inside to out. In an instant, it looked brand-new, and was much more comfortable to live in.
After finishing everything, Ye Yun headed into the valley. Once inside, he discovered that it covered roughly several mu of land. It was more than enough for him to practice martial arts on a daily basis.
As he continued deeper, Ye Yun gradually felt the temperature falling. The farther in he went, the colder it became. Five or six minutes later, he reached the deepest part of the valley, where the Cold Spring his senior brother had mentioned appeared before him.
Several meters ahead was a circular spring eye about two meters across. Its water appeared blue, continuously giving off a white, mist-like chill. Strangely enough, despite the frigid temperature, the spring water had not frozen and was still constantly surging outward.
Ye Yun cautiously tried touching the spring water with a finger. The moment he made contact, he saw his finger freeze over instantly. Startled, he hurriedly pulled it back and circulated the true qi within his body to resist the cold.
A mere slight touch had produced such a result. Ye Yun could already imagine what kind of scene it would be when the chill erupted on the night of the full moon. At the thought, he could not help shuddering, then quickly turned and left.
After returning to his dwelling, Ye Yun spent nearly three hours refining the cold that had invaded his body.
To his surprise, Ye Yun discovered that after refining the cold, his true qi cultivation had actually improved a little. Could there be some treasure beneath the spring eye? But when he thought of the temperature of the Cold Spring's water, he immediately dismissed the idea. Forget going down to search for it—merely touching it had nearly injured him.
Setting aside his thoughts, Ye Yun calmed himself and began seriously considering his plans for the future.
After reaching the Qi Refining Realm, a warrior mainly focused on opening the body's Twelve Standard Meridians and Eight Extraordinary Meridians, twenty meridians in total. Every two opened meridians counted as one level. Finally, the Ren and Du Meridians would be opened and linked with the one hundred and eight acupoints opened during the Body Tempering Realm, forming a Greater Celestial Circuit and allowing one to advance into the True Essence Realm.
After thinking for a long time, Ye Yun first set himself a short-term goal: to make it onto the Hundred Strong Ranking. Just thinking about exchanging blows with so many experts made his heart burn hot.
The sweltering summer slipped away without anyone noticing. With autumn's arrival, the weather began to cool.
At noon, Ye Yun went to the Great Sun Peak dining hall for a meal. The moment he arrived, he could not help marveling that the food provided for inner disciples was indeed far more plentiful than that for outer disciples. There was even demon beast meat available.
After eating, Ye Yun left the dining hall and headed toward the Cultivation Manual Pavilion. Having broken through to the Qi Refining Realm, he could once again receive three mid-grade martial arts manuals from the pavilion.
Before long, Ye Yun arrived outside the Cultivation Manual Pavilion. In the blink of an eye, more than half a year had passed. The pavilion still stood there as it always had, but he himself had undergone earth-shaking changes. Ye Yun could not help feeling moved. The last time he came here, he had not only discovered his special ability, but also found a martial art with eleven points of compatibility, sending his cultivation soaring by leaps and bounds. This time, what would he gain?
As he entered the Cultivation Manual Pavilion, the elder guarding it was still lying there leisurely.
"Elder, Ye Yun, a newly promoted inner disciple, has come to receive martial arts manuals. I hope Elder will grant permission." As he spoke, Ye Yun handed over the identity token representing an inner disciple.
Hearing Ye Yun's voice, the elder opened his narrowed eyes and carefully examined him. "Kid, this old man remembers you. I never expected that after more than half a year, you would actually break through to the Qi Refining Realm. It seems your luck was not bad—you chose a martial art suitable for you last time."
"You flatter me, Elder. This disciple only broke through by luck," Ye Yun said modestly upon hearing the elder's words.
"Alright, go in. The mid-grade martial arts are all protected by mechanisms. Beside each manual are its introduction and opening section. Once you have made your choice, use your identity token to touch the mechanism, and it will disappear. Then bring the copy of the martial art to me for registration. Remember, you may only choose three books. Once chosen, they cannot be changed." The elder carefully explained the situation on the second floor of the Cultivation Manual Pavilion.
At first, when Ye Yun heard that the mid-grade martial arts were all protected by mechanisms, he secretly cried out in alarm.
His special ability had its limitations as well. Ye Yun had tested it before: if he wanted to see a martial art's compatibility with him, he had to read part of its contents. If he could only see the introduction, he would not be able to see its compatibility.
Only when he heard that every martial art had an introduction and opening section did Ye Yun quietly breathe a sigh of relief.
"Thank you for informing me, Elder. This disciple understands." After thanking the elder, Ye Yun walked deeper into the Cultivation Manual Pavilion.
There were three or five outer disciples selecting martial arts on the first floor. When they saw Ye Yun enter in inner disciple robes, they all greeted him. Ye Yun nodded to them in acknowledgment, then headed up the nearby stairs to the second floor.
Seeing Ye Yun enter the second floor of the Cultivation Manual Pavilion, the eyes of the outer disciples downstairs filled with envy.
