Background / History

Outer Sect Disciple

Ye Yun began as an outer disciple living on Sunrise Peak. During the annual outer sect tournament, he was severely injured and eliminated in the first round by Tie Shan, an opponent far above him in cultivation. Rather than abandon his ambitions, he resolved to enter the inner sect and make his grandfather proud. 1 2

A blow to the back of his head during the tournament opened an unknown acupoint. Its apparent side effects were sharper sight and hearing, but its true function was far more valuable: Ye Yun could perceive the exact compatibility between himself and a martial art after reading part of its contents. 2 3

At the Cultivation Manual Pavilion, he found that Fierce Tiger Fist had only three points of compatibility, while the low-grade Layered Waves Fist had an unprecedented score of eleven. He discarded his former cultivation foundation, accepted the temporary regression, and rebuilt himself around Layered Waves Fist. 3 4 5

Blackwater Mountains Training

After rapidly improving, Ye Yun defeated Ironwood and spent two months in the Blackwater Mountains tempering himself against demonic beasts. There he developed practical combat instincts, acquired Treading Snow Without Trace and Profound Yin Twelve Swords from a slain old man’s Storage Bag, and learned Dark Force while fighting a Fiery Sun Tiger. 6 7 9 10

The old man was Ye Yun’s first human kill. Though he was sickened by it, he took the old man’s resources—including the Shadow Sword, medicinal pills, martial arts manuals, and a treasure map—to survive and continue cultivating. 9 10

Rise to the Inner Sect

After returning to the sect, Ye Yun accepted Tie Shan’s Life-and-Death Platform challenge despite the latter having reached the Qi Refining Realm. Tie Shan ultimately died during his own reckless assault, and Ye Yun was declared the victor before using an Aperture-Opening Pill to enter the Qi Refining Realm himself. 14 15

He passed all three inner disciple assessment trials and became an inner sect disciple alongside Ling Chen and He Yue. He then moved into a cave dwelling near the Cold Spring on Great Sun Peak, whose yin-cold environment suited his affinity. 16 17 18

Beneath the Cold Spring, Ye Yun found the Earthheart Flame and Frost-Ice Soul but lacked the cultivation to claim either. He did obtain the Iceheart Lotus Platform, a spiritual treasure that gathers spiritual energy and improves comprehension. 22

Conflicts Beyond the Sect

While completing a mission in the Blackwater Mountains, Ye Yun stole Earth-Origin Milk from Zhao Yu’s group and later killed Zhao Yu and his guards when they pursued him. He subsequently obtained the Human Origin Pill at auction, despite threats from the Zhou Family’s Second Elder. 26 28 32

After leaving the auction, Ye Yun was ambushed by the Blackwater Four Fiends and escaped by leaping into the Blackwater River after being struck by an arrow. Uncle Iron Bull and Yaya sheltered him during his recovery. Learning that the Four Fiends were protected by a True Essence Realm expert, Ye Yun returned to the sect determined to gain strength, enter the Hundred Strong Ranking, and eventually take revenge. 34 36

Hundred Strong Ranking and Clearwind Stronghold

Ye Yun challenged Zhou Yuan, ranked ninety-fifth on the Hundred Strong Ranking, and won through the Selfless Realm after more than a hundred exchanges. 37 38

Following breakthroughs to the sixth and seventh layers of Qi Refining and successive martial epiphanies, he created the Ninefold Waves fist technique. He then accepted a Level Three mission to eliminate Clearwind Stronghold. 40 42 43

Ye Yun infiltrated the stronghold with Liu Laosan’s assistance and began systematically killing its martial artists before confronting Wu Heihu. 48 50

After defeating Wu Heihu and dismantling the stronghold, Ye Yun learned from Li Xiuying of a hidden vault beneath the main hall. He uncovered evidence that Clearwind Stronghold divided its plunder with the Wu Family and the lord of Blackwater Commandery City, as well as Spirit Stones, a five-hundred-year Blood Ginseng, and other valuable resources. 54 56

Ye Yun burned Clearwind Stronghold and departed after ensuring its surviving bandits could no longer use it as a refuge. The battle also taught him that his reactions, control of strength, and use of advantages still needed improvement, leading him to devote the following months to missions and real combat. 56

Great Dynasty Tournament and True Essence Realm

Before the Great Dynasty Tournament, Ye Yun acquired Frostheart, a Quasi-Spirit Weapon-grade pair of ice-attributed gauntlets, treated Wang Chen’s grave illness with a Life Creation Pill, and advanced to the eighth layer of Qi Refining. 79 82 85

He entered the tournament as an increasingly prominent Purple Extreme Sect disciple. His victories over Zhao Wuji, Zhuang Yan, and Tuoba Tian established him as one of the Great Chu Dynasty’s foremost young martial artists. 137 154 161

Following his victory over Zhuang Yan, Ye Yun entered the Clear Mind State after resolving a long-standing emotional obsession. This state accelerated his comprehension and martial cultivation. 154

After the tournament, Ye Yun entered the True Essence Realm, began cultivating the Ice Jade Divine Art, developed Ice Force, and improved his self-created fist technique to the level of an Ultimate Martial Art. 177

Secret-Realm Training and Return

Ye Yun left the Purple Extreme Sect to travel through the Blackwater Mountains and seek the later portions of the Ice Jade Divine Art. His journey brought him into conflict with Zhang Ling and the Zhang Lineage of the Great Luo Dynasty, whose members he later defeated after they repeatedly pursued him. 214 216 267 272

He became trapped in Bing Qianyue’s Sea-Change Pagoda for more than a year. During this period, he endured increasingly dangerous trials, refined his combat skills against the Mirror Person, advanced the Selfless Realm, and acquired further opportunities connected to Bing Qianyue’s inheritance. 240 245 254

Upon returning to the Purple Extreme Sect, Ye Yun concealed Bing Qianyue’s existence while reuniting with Ling Chen, He Yue, Wang Chen, and the sect elders. His reappearance unsettled rival sects preparing for the True Dragon Society. 283 311

Taiyin Spirit Body and Path of Heavenly Prodigies

After waiting four years, Ye Yun returned to Cold Spring and successfully subdued both the Frost-Ice Soul and the Earthheart Flame. 311

He used the Frost-Ice Soul together with Jade Marrow Fluid to transform his physique. During the process, his consciousness entered the Sea of Laws and comprehended ice-related mysteries before awakening the Taiyin Spirit Body, a far rarer result than the Ice Soul Spirit Body he had expected. 312

The transformation raised Ye Yun to the Third-Turn Core Elixir Realm, greatly increased his cultivation speed and comprehension, and improved his compatibility with the Ice Jade Divine Art to thirty points. 313

Ye Yun subsequently traveled toward the True Dragon Continent with Lu Qingyu, Li Qinglian, and Ling Chen. Before his death, Lu Qingyu entrusted Ye Yun with the future safety of his daughter Lu Hongyi, whose Nine-Yin Severed Meridian Physique threatens her life. 323 327

In the Path of Heavenly Prodigies trial, Ye Yun survived the True Martial Secret Realm, aided Li Qinglian and Ling Chen against powerful Phantom Beast Kings, advanced the Selfless Realm to perfection, and emerged as the trial’s champion. 361 398

Desolate Sect

After entering the True Dragon Continent, Ye Yun joined the Desolate Sect and continued pursuing stronger ice-attributed martial arts. His special ability evolved enough to assess sealed manuals through their introductions, allowing him to obtain the Profound-rank Heavenly Frost Fist and Mayfly Movement Art. 407

He cultivated Heavenly Frost Fist to Major Accomplishment before the Hunting Tournament, where he chose to operate independently rather than join Fu Shanshan’s group. 410

Ye Yun’s rapid rise, victory in the Hunting Tournament, and defeat of Dongfang Yu established him as a formidable disciple despite his origins in the Shattered Lands. He later challenged Yu Qing for true-disciple standing and defeated him through the Heaven-and-Earth Prison and the Selfless Realm. 419 426 428

Personality

Ye Yun is intensely disciplined and willing to take calculated risks for growth. He gave up his previous cultivation foundation to pursue a better-suited martial art, repeatedly seeks life-and-death combat experience, and does not rely on compatibility alone. 5 11

He is cautious in dangerous situations, using disguises, retreats, feints, and resource management rather than fighting recklessly. He also takes seriously the lesson of never underestimating an opponent, even one far weaker than himself. 12 15 28

Despite becoming increasingly cold in temperament after cultivating ice-attributed techniques, Ye Yun remains devoted to those who have cared for him. His grandfather’s hopes, Uncle Iron Bull’s rescue, and his promise to Yaya continue to motivate him. 24 36 44

Ye Yun considers combat experience indispensable. After recognizing that Wu Heihu had suppressed him despite the gap in their underlying strength, he deliberately sought difficult missions to refine his reactions, decisiveness, and control. 56 89

He is deeply loyal to friends despite his guarded manner. He used a rare Life Creation Pill to save Wang Chen, refused to abandon the injured Liu Haizhu while pursued by Zhang Ling, and later protected Li Qinglian and Ling Chen during the Path of Heavenly Prodigies trial. 82 267 361

Ye Yun’s long-term aspirations expanded after Lu Qingyu revealed the oppression endured by martial artists from the Shattered Lands. He resolved to gain sufficient strength to change the existing order rather than cultivate solely for his own ambitions. 327

Abilities & Skills

Martial Art Compatibility Perception

Ye Yun’s unknown head acupoint allows him to perceive a martial art’s compatibility score after reading part of its contents. 3

  • Identified Layered Waves Fist at eleven-point compatibility, Ice Profound Force at thirteen, and Void Meditation Formula at fifteen. 4 19 20
  • Lets him avoid investing months into techniques poorly suited to him.
  • Requires access to a portion of a manual’s actual content; introductions alone are insufficient. 18
  • Ye Yun believes the ability may also enhance compatibility, though this remains his own deduction. 18
  • The ability accelerates his comprehension of specific cold and yin-aligned martial arts, giving him results comparable to someone with a cold-attributed Spirit Body in those fields. 63
  • Following his transformation into a Taiyin Spirit Body, it evolved enough to assess the compatibility of sealed Profound-rank manuals from their introductions alone. 407
  • His compatibility with the Ice Jade Divine Art rose from twenty-three to thirty points after awakening the Taiyin Spirit Body. 313

Layered Waves Fist and Dark Force

Layered Waves Fist is Ye Yun’s foundational fist art, a low-grade martial art with eleven-point compatibility. Its twelve forms build continuous, accumulating force. 4 5

  • Reached great mastery within two months and perfection before his duel with Tie Shan. 7 14
  • Uses flowing momentum to wear down an opponent’s defense, as demonstrated against Ironwood. 6
  • Its manual led Ye Yun to discover Dark Force during his battle with the Fiery Sun Tiger. 9
  • Dark Force penetrates defenses and devastates targets internally; Ye Yun used it to kill the Fiery Sun Tiger, the old man pursuing the Essence Fruit, and three rogue cultivators. 9 12
  • Dark Force later became one half of Ye Yun’s dual force-exertion approach, complementing the explosive Bright Force he developed through deeper insight into his fist arts. 110

Ninefold Waves and Ten-Thousand Waves Fist Art

Ninefold Waves is a mid-tier fist technique Ye Yun created during an epiphany while practicing Layered Waves Fist. 42 43

  • A single punch carries nine successive layers of force.
  • Uses mounting momentum and fist pressure to overwhelm opponents before the strike physically lands.
  • As a self-created technique, it began at perfection. 43
  • Its strength increases as Ye Yun’s understanding of Fist Force deepens. 43

Ye Yun continuously developed Ninefold Waves into the Ten-Thousand Waves Fist Art, a self-created art built around successively accumulating layers of force. 177 221

  • By Chapter 240, it had increased from twenty-one to thirty layers of fist force and incorporated the freezing effects of Ice Force. 240
  • Prolonged battle against the Mirror Person raised it to forty layers and the level of a perfected Ultimate Martial Art. 251
  • He later developed Bright Force, which concentrates bodily strength into a single explosive point, and integrated it with Dark Force to make the technique more versatile. 110
  • The technique reached sixty layers during his True Martial Secret Realm training and approached the power of a perfected lower-grade Spirit-level martial art. 350
  • Ye Yun’s later Ten Thousand Layered Waves combines the Ten-Thousand Waves Fist Art, the Force Realm, ice-attributed spiritual energy, and the power of heaven and earth. 366

Fist Force

Ye Yun entered a state of enlightenment after reflecting on his martial path and practicing Layered Waves Fist. 41

  • Reached the Half-Step Fist Force Realm. 42
  • Can mobilize the power of heaven and earth within five meters of his body. 42
  • Fist Force is the first of the Four Martial Realms: Force, Intent, Soul, and Path. 41
  • Reached the true entry level of Fist Force before the Great Dynasty Tournament. 106
  • Advanced to Minor Achievement during his battle with the Blazing Vajra Ape. 209
  • Reached Perfection before the Path of Heavenly Prodigies and Half-Step Intent after a month of meditation atop True Martial Mountain. 332 395
  • His developing momentum-based style led to the creation of Heaven-and-Earth Prison, which suppresses an enemy by gathering the Heaven-and-Earth Grand Momentum around them. 366

Ice Profound Force and Nine Yin Cold Claw

Ice Profound Force is a difficult ice-attributed cultivation technique with thirteen-point compatibility. Its true qi carries icy force that can invade an enemy through an attack and freeze their internal organs. 19

  • Reached minor accomplishment after three months of cultivation. 23
  • Suits Ye Yun’s affinity for cold and yin attributes, as well as his Cold Spring residence. 18 19
  • Nine Yin Cold Claw has ten-point compatibility and complements Ice Profound Force. 19
  • Ye Yun used the claw’s icy force to kill one of Zhao Yu’s guards instantly and later destroy the guard captain’s internal organs. 28
  • After reaching the True Essence Realm, Ice Profound Force was superseded by the more powerful Ice Jade Divine Art. 177 221

Ice Jade Divine Art, Ice Force, and Lunar Force

The Ice Jade Divine Art is Ye Yun’s primary ice-attributed cultivation method after entering the True Essence Realm. It replaced Ice Profound Force and became the basis of his later ice-based development. 177 221

  • The art reached its second layer within several months due to Ye Yun’s exceptionally high compatibility. 221
  • Its cultivation, together with the Frost-Ice Soul, helped Ye Yun develop Ice Force. 177
  • Ice Force reached Minor Achievement during Ye Yun’s secret-realm training, allowing him to draw ice-attributed spiritual energy from within five hundred meters and freeze targets. 240
  • Ice Force later reached Perfection and then Half-Step Intent alongside Fist Force. 332 395
  • Ye Yun’s Taiyin Spirit Body enables him to cultivate and fight at roughly double effectiveness under moonlight and gives him the potential to comprehend the Lunar Yin Dao. 313
  • By observing the natural changes of the sun, moon, and sky, he comprehended Lunar Force, which awakened Lunar Power within him. 395
  • Lunar Power nourishes Ye Yun’s soul and rapidly strengthens his spiritual power, making it especially valuable for future Spirit Sea Realm cultivation. 396

Mystic Ice Body

Mystic Ice Body is Ye Yun’s body-tempering art, which develops a physique of extreme resilience through repeated painful cultivation cycles. 63 85

  • Its defensive power allowed Ye Yun to withstand a sixth-layer Qi Refining attack without moving. 65
  • Long-term practice dramatically increased his pain tolerance and physical strength. 85
  • Ye Yun later used the Heavy Mountain Armor as a continuous burden to further temper his body. 202
  • By the time he cultivated in Windspirit City, his physique was comparable to a mid-grade treasure weapon and allowed him to refine Fury Origin Pills more frequently than ordinary martial artists. 339

Profound Yin Twelve Swords

A mid-grade fast sword technique with nine-point compatibility. 10

  • Its theoretical peak allows seven sword strikes in a second. 10
  • Reached major accomplishment by the time Ye Yun attained the peak of the Fourth Heaven of Qi Refining. 23
  • Its speed supplements the sustained force of his fist arts. 10

Ice Dance Nine Heavens Sword Art and Sword Force

The Ice Dance Nine Heavens Sword Art is an ice-attributed sword art Ye Yun acquired through Bing Qianyue’s inheritance opportunities. 238 339

  • Ye Yun comprehended Sword Force to the Initiation Realm before beginning serious cultivation of the art. 333
  • He gradually integrated it with the Ice Dance Nine Heavens Movement Art, believing a perfect fusion could reach the power of an Earth-grade low-rank martial art. 339
  • By Chapter 350, the sword art had reached Major Accomplishment and Sword Force had advanced to Minor Achievement, making swordsmanship one of Ye Yun’s greatest trump cards. 350

Treading Snow Without Trace

A mid-grade movement technique with seven-point compatibility. 10

  • Can create afterimages; at mastery, up to three can remain for five seconds. 10
  • Reached minor mastery while evading a pack of Wind Wolves. 11
  • Reached major accomplishment by Chapter 23 and perfection while escaping Zhao Yu’s encirclement. 23 28
  • At perfection, Ye Yun’s speed more than doubled, allowing him to evade an otherwise fatal attack. 28

Ice Swallow Sky-Stepping Art

Ice Swallow Sky-Stepping Art is a high-grade, ice-attributed movement technique with nine-point compatibility. It grants the speed of an Ice Swallow and can eventually produce wings for brief flight. 87

  • Ye Yun selected it to address the growing inadequacy of Treading Snow Without Trace against stronger enemies. 85 87
  • Reached the Initiation Realm after one week of intensive training, more than doubling his speed. 88
  • Reached the Perfection Realm during his secret-realm training, allowing him to traverse the forest with exceptional speed. 240
  • Its perfected realm enabled Ye Yun to fly, a capability that surprised Zhang Ling despite the latter’s Core Elixir Realm cultivation. 267

Mayfly Movement Art

Mayfly Movement Art is a low-grade Profound-rank, water-attributed movement technique with eight-point compatibility. 407

  • Ye Yun chose it because it is significantly faster than Ice Dance Nine Heavens Movement Art in long-distance travel. 407
  • He retains Ice Dance Nine Heavens Movement Art for short-range combat maneuvering, where it remains more useful. 407
  • Ye Yun used Mayfly Movement Art to effortlessly evade Yu Qing’s saber aura during their true-disciple challenge. 428

Void Meditation Formula / Selfless Realm

The Void Meditation Formula is a secret art with fifteen-point compatibility. Ye Yun calls the combat state it produces the Selfless Realm. 20 23

  • Removes stray thoughts and allows Ye Yun’s body to counter based on accumulated combat experience. 23
  • Its unconscious responses are faster and more decisive than deliberate reactions. 23
  • Allowed Ye Yun to evade Zhou Yuan’s decisive attack and secure the ninety-fifth rank. 38
  • Has extreme true-qi consumption: Ye Yun can maintain it for less than thirty seconds in actual battle at his current level. 26
  • Reached Minor Accomplishment during his battle against Liao Qingxuan, allowing Ye Yun to control his body freely and double the concentrated power of his attacks. 74
  • Reached Major Accomplishment in the Sea-Change Pagoda, enabling him to anticipate an opponent’s next attack and counter in advance. 254
  • Reached Perfection after Ye Yun defeated a Phantom Beast King and recovered from the secret art’s backlash. 361
  • At his later level, it can multiply his combat power severalfold, though sustained use still places an extreme burden on his body. 366 428

Heavenly Frost Fist

Heavenly Frost Fist is a low-grade Profound-rank, ice-attributed fist art with sixteen-point compatibility, the highest score Ye Yun found in the Desolate Sect repository. 407

  • Produces Heavenfrost Cold Qi, which erodes and freezes enemies in close combat. 408
  • Its ice domain alters the surrounding weather; even at Initiation, it could create an icy domain across roughly one li and more than double Ye Yun’s martial power within it. 408
  • Reached Major Accomplishment before the Hunting Tournament, expanding the Heavenfrost Cold Qi from one foot to three feet. 410
  • At Major Accomplishment, Ye Yun can lower temperatures over a three-li radius and increase the art’s power roughly threefold within that domain. 410
  • Perfecting the technique may provide an opportunity to enter the Ice Intent Realm. 408

Heaven-and-Earth Prison

Heaven-and-Earth Prison is Ye Yun’s self-developed Force Realm technique, created after he recognized that Force could restrain opponents rather than merely enhance his own attacks. 366

  • Gathers the surrounding Heaven-and-Earth Grand Momentum around a target to immobilize or suppress them. 366
  • Its strength increased with Ye Yun’s later comprehension of Fist Force and Ice Force. 390
  • Ye Yun used it to restrain Zhou Wu’s group and later suppress Yu Qing during their challenge. 390 428
