New York, Manhattan.
"Chief! We can't hold them! There are too many of these alien bastards!" A police officer shouted into his communicator from behind a squad car.
Captain America, Steve Rogers, sent a Chitauri soldier flying with his shield and panted heavily. "Hold the line! Stark is figuring out how to shut down the portal!"
"He'd better hurry!" Black Widow, Natasha, shouted over the comms. "I just saw another big one come through!"
Just then, Hulk was hit by a concentrated barrage of energy fire. He roared furiously, but was temporarily suppressed.
A squadron of Chitauri flyers noticed the gap in firepower. They descended, aimed at the cover where the captain and the police officers were hiding, and began gathering eerie blue energy in their cannons.
"Get down!!" Steve roared, raising his shield.
He had already braced himself for the impact.
But the expected explosion never came.
"...Huh?"
Steve looked up in confusion.
He saw a pair of... red boots.
Those boots hovered silently three meters above their heads.
A man.
A man in a blue skintight suit, floating motionlessly in the air.
As for the Chitauri flying squad that had been preparing to attack, they had all been split in two and were now falling in flames behind him.
"W-Who is that?" A police officer peeked out from behind the car, dumbfounded.
Steve was stunned too.
"Sir," a young police officer asked haltingly, "is that... is that Superman? I read his comics when I was a kid..."
"Shut up, George." The older officer snapped. "Superman is Henry Cavill! Who the fuck is this?"
"S.H.I.E.L.D.?" Steve pressed his earpiece. "Fury! Is this the trump card you've been hiding?!"
"..."
There was only silence from the communicator.
S.H.I.E.L.D., Helicarrier.
Nick Fury, the King of Spies, stared with his one eye fixed firmly on the figure on the screen.
"Hill," he said urgently, "analyze that target. Who is he? Is there any record of him? Where did he come from? And why is he dressed like he just walked off a movie set?!"
"Sir," Agent Maria Hill said, her fingers flying across the keyboard, "there's no matching superhuman in the database! He just appeared there out of nowhere. His heat signature... God, his biological thermal output is as high as a small reactor!"
In the center of the battlefield.
Wu Yanzu floated in the air, enjoying the looks directed at him from below.
Awe, shock, confusion, and... worship.
Ding! Popularity Points gained +120 Ding! Popularity Points gained +45 Ding! Popularity Points gained +109
"Too little..." Wu Yanzu frowned in dissatisfaction.
He needed a bigger stage.
Just then, a Chitauri soldier noticed the oddly dressed man. It screeched, raised the energy spear in its hand, and viciously thrust it at his back!
"Watch out!!" Steve shouted from below.
Wu Yanzu seemed not to hear him. He did not even turn around.
Splat—!
The spear's tip stopped against his back.
The Chitauri soldier used all its strength, yet it could not push forward even an inch.
Wu Yanzu slowly turned around, a trace of irritation at being disturbed appearing on his handsome face.
"Trash."
Then he reached out with lightning speed and grabbed the Chitauri soldier by the head.
Before Steve Rogers's horrified eyes, he merely gave it a light squeeze.
Pop—!
Like crushing a tomato.
Blue blood and white brain matter splattered everywhere.
The headless corpse fell from the sky.
Wu Yanzu shook the gore off his hand with a look of disgust.
"No wonder Homelander likes shooting lasers from his eyes. Using your hands is pretty disgusting..."
Then he abruptly looked up at the sky.
A swarm of Chitauri aircraft was diving toward him.
His eyes began to burn as searing power gathered behind his retinas.
Bzzzt—!!
Two blazing dark-red beams shot from his eyes!
The beams swept across the sky, neatly slicing five Chitauri aircraft—and their pilots—in half.
Molten metal and charred wreckage rained down from above.
For one second, everything around him fell silent.
"Oh my god..." The police officer named John dropped his gun to the ground with a clatter.
"Nick!" Steve stood frozen for two seconds. "I'm asking again. Is he really not your secret weapon?"
"This guy... really isn't Superman?" Hawkeye Clint muttered from the rooftop.
"He's strong," Natasha's voice came through the communicator, "and... he seems to be enjoying this."
Iron Man, Tony Stark, made a sharp turn in midair and stopped in front of Wu Yanzu. His faceplate opened.
"Hey! Soldier Boy!" Tony's tone was as flippant as ever. "The cosplay party isn't today. Who are you? Fury's new toy?"
Wu Yanzu hovered in the air at eye level with Stark and smiled faintly.
"You look more like a toy than I do. I'm just here to help."
"Help? Your way of helping is pretty... flashy," Tony quipped.
"Thanks for the compliment."
"I wasn't complimenting you..."
"Tony!" the captain's voice cut in. "Quit talking! We've got trouble!"
"One of the big ones is charging down Fifth Avenue. Hulk and Thor are working together to deal with two others."
"I've got it." Tony's faceplate shut as he prepared to rush over.
"No need to trouble yourself, Mr. Stark."
Wu Yanzu smiled and moved first.
He was too fast.
Tony Stark's armor only managed to catch a red-and-blue afterimage.
The next second, Wu Yanzu had appeared in front of that Leviathan.
And simply... rammed straight into it.
Splat—!
Before everyone's horrified eyes, he tore straight through the giant beast's steel head at supersonic speed!
A perfect circular hole several meters wide appeared in the beast's head.
Boom...
The massive beast lost power and crashed onto the street, smashing out a huge crater.
Wu Yanzu hovered at the other end of the beast's corpse.
His body slowly turned, spotless and pristine, and he gave the stunned crowd below a brilliant smile fit for a magazine cover.
"Don't be afraid, everyone." His voice carried clearly across several city blocks. "I'm here."
Then, facing a news helicopter filming him in midair, he gave a smile full of righteousness and waved. "Don't worry, I will save everyone here!"
