On Apokolips, the one-sided battle raged on.
Homelander remained unshaken. He even gave a lazy yawn, let his head tilt slightly under Kalibak's heavy blow, then turned it back with a look of utter boredom.
His gaze slid past the frenzied Kalibak and settled on Super-Ego, hovering several hundred meters away.
Their eyes met.
Homelander raised his right hand, pressed his index and middle fingers together, and made a small downward motion.
A simple signal.
Super-Ego, who carried the consciousness of the Celestial Ego, understood at once.
His towering figure blurred in midair.
The next second, Super-Ego plunged straight into the massed Parademon army.
No battle cry. No evasive maneuvers. Super-Ego moved with the ruthless efficiency of a killing machine.
A red-and-blue blur cut into the heart of the Parademons' densest formation.
Deadly red light flared in his eyes, and two searing beams swept back and forth through the army of Apokolips.
Hundreds, even thousands of Parademons were torn into pieces every second. Their mangled bodies, edges charred, rained from the sky.
"Enemy attack! Fight back! Open fire!" Virman Vundabar, commanding from the rear, roared himself hoarse.
But Super-Ego wheeled around in midair, his chest swelling.
"Whoosh!"
A blast of freezing breath poured from his mouth, sending a fan-shaped storm of frost sweeping outward.
In an instant, Virman and every soldier around him were frozen into statues.
The slaughter continued, faster and faster. Super-Ego darted through the enemy ranks, and every pause brought the sharp crack of shattered bones and the sound of bodies being ripped apart. Blood pooled across the ground and ran through cracks in the rock.
Kalibak noticed none of it.
He was lost in a savage obsession. One thought filled his head: smash the blond man's skull.
"Die! Die! Die! Die! Die!"
Ten minutes. Twenty minutes.
