Inside the warehouse laboratory, time ticked by.
Night wind poured through the blasted wall, slowly clearing the thick smoke left by the explosion.
Hank Pym stayed at Hope's side, his brow furrowed.
Hope never took her eyes off the gaping hole in the wall.
"He'll be all right, won't he?" Hope murmured. She seemed to be asking her father as much as reassuring herself.
Pym sighed and patted his daughter's back, trying to comfort her.
"Be patient, Hope. No news is usually good news."
Despite his words, Pym was just as anxious.
He hadn't built the Ant-Man Suit for killing, so he hadn't equipped it with extra weapons. Against Darren's Wasp Suit, Daniel was at a disadvantage from the start.
Father and daughter waited in suffocating silence.
Suddenly, a strange noise came from beyond the hole in the wall.
Hope and Pym tensed at once and turned toward it.
The next second, a figure in black-and-yellow armor grew from tiny to full size five meters away, appearing out of thin air.
The moment they saw who it was, their hearts turned to ice.
It was Darren Cross.
Darren's faceplate slowly rose, revealing the face Hope had come to despise.
His gaze swept calmly over the father and daughter behind their cover.
"That was a hard fight," Darren said with a triumphant smile. "I have to admit, Hank, the young man you found was much tougher than I expected."
"Where's Daniel? What did you do to him?" Hope's breathing quickened as she glared at Darren.
Darren sighed softly and shook his head, feigning regret.
"I'm sorry to tell you he fought to the very end to protect you. His courage was admirable, but courage couldn't make up for the gap in strength."
"He's dead, Hope. He died out in the wasteland."
