Fury gulped down fresh air.
He touched his chest and felt an emptiness there, as though something were missing.
But the hunger and madness that had constantly burned away at his sanity were gone as well.
Fury raised his head and saw Carol standing nearby.
His expression became extremely complicated.
He said nothing, merely following Homelander in silence.
Carol watched Fury's back, her brows tightly furrowed.
She had far too many questions that needed answers. Why had the Skrulls been massacred? Why had Fury become like that? What exactly had happened to Earth?
To unravel the doubts in her heart, Carol bit her lip and followed after them without a word.
The three of them walked in silence, one in front and two behind.
Before long, they arrived at the V.G.D. headquarters base.
Fully armed guards and busy staff all stopped in their tracks when they saw Homelander, bowing respectfully.
No one stopped Fury and Carol, who followed behind him.

He walked over to the liquor cabinet, took out three crystal glasses, and poured three glasses of whiskey, adding half a glass of fresh milk to one of them.
He pushed two glasses across the desk, picked up one for himself, and leaned back in his office chair.
Fury dragged his exhausted body inside after him, unceremoniously picked up a glass, pulled out a chair, and sat down.
Carol entered right behind him. She did not look at the drinks on the table, instead fixing her gaze on Fury as she prepared to question him.
"Why did you only come now?" Fury asked first.
