The next morning.
The rain had passed, and the sky had cleared. Dawn light glimmered faintly.
Inside the west wing.
Jiang Yuechu slowly opened her eyes.
After a night of regulating her breath, the surging true qi within her had completely stabilized.
She called for the two young maidservants.
Very soon.
The maidservant named Cui'er entered carrying a bronze basin, with Hongxiu following behind her, holding a purple sandalwood tray.
"My lady, you're awake?"
Cui'er set down the bronze basin, swiftly wrung out a cloth, and handed it over.
Jiang Yuechu took it, casually wiped her face, and let her gaze fall upon the tray.
It was neither the chest-high ruqun dress popular in the Great Tang nor the fitted combat attire she usually wore.
Instead, it was a Su-embroidered moonlight brocade blouse, paired with a pleated ruyi moon skirt.
It was an elegant pale lake-blue, embroidered with several slanting winter plum branches in silver thread.
It was pretty, certainly.
But how the hell was she supposed to wear this thing...?
Jiang Yuechu frowned slightly. "Is there nothing... more practical?"
Trousers would do too.
With all these layers of skirt, would she not be tying her own hands and feet if she had to fight?
Cui'er looked troubled and said cautiously, "In reply to my lady, this is already the plainest clothing in the residence."
"Our young miss preferred quiet pursuits over movement and loved reading poetry and books, so the residence... has not prepared fitted martial attire for women."
As she spoke, the little maid furtively glanced at Jiang Yuechu's expression.
"If my lady dislikes it, this servant will have someone go to the ready-made clothing shops and buy some at once. It is simply too early now, and the shops may not have opened yet..."
Jiang Yuechu sighed.
