History

Great Tang was founded roughly eight hundred years before the present era. Its founding ancestor, Li Tianyuan, swept across the six directions, gathered the Dragon Qi of the Nine Provinces, and nearly restored the shattered Central Yellow Imperial Position Dao Orthodoxy before other great Dao lineages joined forces to stop him 20 357.

Despite its long history, Great Tang remained a mortal dynasty in a region occupied by powerful Dao Orthodoxies, demon courts, and immortal sects. Its survival is considered unusual: even Spirit Mountain alone possessed enough Demon Emperors to devastate the country, while the hidden basis for the dynasty’s continued existence is known to major Dao Orthodoxies but remains unrevealed 313 396.

The Spirit Mountain invasion exposed the dynasty’s weakness. Jiannan and Longyou faced collapse, Five Immortals Mountain humiliated Great Tang’s envoy rather than offering aid, and the imperial court lacked enough high-realm cultivators to meet the crisis directly 320 333. Jiang Yuechu’s victories reversed the immediate disaster, turning her into Great Tang’s foremost military protector and a symbol of national resistance 319 324 350.

Afterward, Great Tang began building a new foundation through the Incense-Fire Path, Golden Bodies, external alliances, alchemy, captured resources, and the migration of part of its population into the wider cultivation world 436 453 527 890.

Government and Institutions

Imperial House

• Great Tang is ruled by the Li Imperial House from Chang’an.
• The Emperor directly commands the Demon Suppression Office rather than routing it through the Three Departments, Six Ministries, or ordinary central administration 20.
• Imperial Dragon Qi is a major defensive resource. The Li High Ancestor can draw upon it in battle, though it proved insufficient against stronger foreign cultivators 448.

Demon Suppression Office

• Under Jiang Yuechu’s influence, the Office shifts from being intimidated by foreign cultivators to enforcing Great Tang’s laws against them 464.
• Receives Golden Body cultivation methods and Formless Mountain’s recovered resources to strengthen its members 472 527.

Incense-Fire Path and Golden Bodies

• Great Tang adopts the Incense-Fire Path because conventional cultivation would take centuries or millennia to produce enough Tower-Climbing experts for national defense 409.
• Temples are constructed across prefectures and counties to gather the worship of Great Tang’s people 416 436.
• Gu Yue is selected as the central divine figure because of her imperial connection, battlefield achievements, and willingness to share Great Tang’s prosperity and danger 416 436.

Defensive Guardians of Chang’an
