Background
Lulina grew up in Hulbury alongside Blake, becoming his childhood sweetheart and one of the few people fully accustomed to his Ghost-type Pokémon’s pranks. By age fourteen, she was already a Gym apprentice under Haisewai while pursuing Water-type training. 2 4
Her father, Sam, is the captain of Hulbury’s Third Fishing Fleet, while Anna manages their home. Sam’s Exploud snores loudly enough that Lulina regularly stays at Blake’s house, where her room is effectively kept ready for her. 6 7
She raises Chewtle patiently rather than forcing its evolution, following Haisewai’s guidance that remaining in an earlier stage can benefit a Pokémon’s long-term physical and mental development. 3
After caring for an egg left by Sam’s Pelipper, Lulina witnessed Wingull hatch and immediately became its maternal figure. Wingull is affectionate toward her but initially defensive around Blake. 19
Appearance
At fourteen, Lulina is described as radiating youthful vitality rather than the mature style she will develop later. She has a naturally wheat-colored complexion. 2 7
- Usually energetic and physically expressive around Blake.
- Often carries or tends to Chewtle.
- Is comfortable enough at Blake’s home to stay overnight regularly. 2 6
Personality
Lulina is cheerful, impulsive, and affectionate. She seeks Blake out during breaks, casually helps at his shop, and readily treats his home as a second home. Her familiarity with Blake often comes out as teasing, physical affection, or playful demands that he indulge her. 2 6 33
As a Trainer, she is competitive and proud of her Gym apprenticeship. She is eager to face strong challengers, confidently tells Leon that he must defeat her before challenging Haisewai, and reacts strongly when Blake minimizes his own skill after repeatedly defeating her. 4 23
She can also be impatient. Her eagerness to battle Blake causes her to rush to the arena without bringing any Pokémon besides Chewtle, putting her at an immediate disadvantage. 4 5 Despite this, she is attentive to her Pokémon’s health, supports Chewtle through defeat, and carefully raises Wingull from hatching. 5 19
Her teasing toward Blake gradually reveals mutual romantic tension. She deliberately embarrasses him, but becomes equally flustered when the situation is reversed. 11 Their closeness is noticeable enough that both families speculate about them, while Lulina and Blake later seal a promise to explore ruins together with a pinky link. 38
Abilities & Skills
Water-type Training
Lulina is a Water-type Trainer and Hulbury Gym apprentice with experience raising Water-type Pokémon.

- Delays Chewtle’s evolution on Haisewai’s advice for healthier development. 3
- Passes the official beginner Trainer assessment. 21

As Haisewai’s apprentice, Lulina is positioned to assess challengers before they reach the Hulbury Gym Leader.

- Comforts and encourages Chewtle even while losing to Blake’s Gastly. 5
- Helps care for Blake’s Pokémon and understands Gastly’s mischievous personality. 2 11
Pokémon
- Chewtle — Her long-time Water-type partner. It knows Shell Smash, Rain Dance, and Bite; its limited speed and lack of ranged options leave it vulnerable to Gastly’s evasive status tactics. 2 5
- Wingull — A newly hatched Wingull from Sam’s Pelipper’s egg. It is deeply attached to Lulina and has Hydration, which Blake believes should become Drizzle upon evolution. 19 21
- Water-type starter (pending choice) — Haisewai promises Lulina a Water-type starter after she passes the beginner Trainer assessment; Blake recommends Mudkip, but her final selection is not documented. 21
Relationships
- Blake — Childhood sweetheart, frequent companion, battle rival, and tactical adviser. She has never defeated him in battle, but trusts him deeply and regularly stays at his house. Their mutual affection becomes increasingly apparent. 2 4 11 38
- Haisewai — Teacher and Hulbury’s Water-type Gym Leader. Haisewai mentors Lulina, cautions her against overconfidence, and rewards her assessment success with the offer of a Water-type starter. 4 21
- Sam — Her affectionate, overprotective father and the captain of Hulbury’s Third Fishing Fleet. 6 7
- Anna — Her practical, warm mother, who is close friends with Blake’s mother Louise. 7 38
- Chewtle — Her first documented Pokémon partner; Lulina encourages and cares for it closely despite its repeated losses to Gastly. 2 5
- Wingull — Newly hatched Pokémon that sees Lulina as its mother. 19
- Sonia / “Little Yamper” — Online friend whom Lulina later meets in person during the Great Fishing Festival. 7 22 23
- Leon — A Gym challenger and friendly prospective opponent whom Lulina guides during the Great Fishing Festival. 23 33
Story Role
Shop Opening and Apprenticeship
Lulina accompanies Blake to his newly opened charm shop, helps stock pearl necklaces, and later assists at the counter when the shop is overwhelmed by customers. 2 3 9 Haisewai’s visit establishes Lulina’s role as a Gym apprentice and leads to her battle with Blake. 4
Battle Against Blake
Forced to rely only on Chewtle after rushing to the arena, Lulina loses decisively to Blake and Gastly. Gastly repeatedly nullifies Shell Smash with Haze, poisons Chewtle with Toxic, and evades its attacks until Chewtle is exhausted. 5
Trainer Certification and Team Planning
Lulina passes the beginner Trainer assessment and seeks Blake’s advice on selecting a Water-type starter. Their discussion establishes her interest in building a future rain-focused Water-type team alongside Wingull. 19 21
Great Fishing Festival
Lulina reunites with Sonia and Leon at Hulbury’s Great Fishing Festival, helps guide the visitors through the ceremony, and establishes herself as Leon’s required opponent before Haisewai. 22 23 She later helps explain the festival’s history and joins Blake in hosting Leon and Sonia. 24
Leon’s Hulbury Gym Challenge
Lulina escorts Leon to the Hulbury Gym, then watches his high-standard battle against Haisewai from the stands with Blake and Sonia. Following Leon’s victory, she playfully demands that he buy the group food and has Blake carry her from the Gym. 33
Promise of Future Exploration
While their families gather for a meal, Lulina admits that she envies Blake’s upcoming ruin expedition. Blake promises to take her to a ruin once she is free, and the two seal the promise by linking pinkies. 38

Trivia
