Char's Unease

The Archangel, Eternal, Dominion, and Kusanagi—after escaping L4, these four warships hid within the Wall of Wreckage.

It was a vast belt of space debris at the edge of the L4 Sector, formed from refuse left behind by humanity's spacefaring activities. Discarded colonial satellite shells, wreckage from obsolete warships that could no longer be used, fragments from meteor craters left over from some unknown era—these silent, meaningless objects formed a natural barrier. Radar signals became chaotic here, and optical detection was disrupted by reflections off warped metal. Even ZAFT's most advanced reconnaissance ships could not easily detect vessels hiding within it.

The junk dealer arranged by Mr. Muruta Azrael came by regularly.

It was an utterly unremarkable civilian transport ship, with no markings on its hull, the sort of scrap-recovery vessel that could be found anywhere in space. It traveled through the sector under the pretext of processing wreckage, while in reality serving as a channel for intelligence and supplies.

Food, fresh water, machine parts, propellant—these necessities that kept the fleet running were delivered by the junk dealer time and again, along with all manner of news from outside.

That was how they spent the two months since the last battle, receiving supplies and intelligence.

Over those two months, Char's relationship with Jiliang and Lacus Clyne grew ever deeper.

In those ordinary days when there was no need to fight, in those brief intervals when they could temporarily forget the war, the bond between the three quietly grew like a carefully cultivated plant. Char would hand Jiliang a cup of coffee after she finished revising an MS system program, gently hold Lacus's hand when news left her face pale, and spend late nights maintaining his machine in the hangar while wondering how he could survive the next battle.
