By early morning, virtually every wizard in Europe's Wizarding World had heard the unprecedented news.

The Triwizard Tournament was the grandest event held by Europe's three major schools of magic. Almost every European wizard knew of it.

Since its creation seven hundred years earlier, it had always been a friendly competition between the three schools.

No one had ever heard of a Five-Champion Tournament. Most wizards' first reaction to the news was, Is this fake?

Thanks to Rita Skeeter, the Daily Prophet's coverage was, as always, the most sensational.

This time was no exception. Rita filled her article with lurid phrases like "shocking conspiracy," "tragic death," and "murder."

Those words would have been more at home in a crime report.

Unlike the other papers, the Daily Prophet seemed to have obtained an exclusive scoop. All its coverage of the tournament focused on Harry Potter's and Eli Hall's names being entered in secret.

The question of who had done it became the greatest mystery before the Five-Champion Tournament began.

Whenever anyone discussed the tournament, they inevitably speculated about who had entered the two students' names.
