An Argument with Hermione Granger

The three of them walked all the way outside the castle, where they could just make out the treetops of the Forbidden Forest in the distance.

"So you still wanted to persuade me not to free the House-elves?" Hermione's tone was somewhat stiff as she challenged Eli. Even when Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy had opposed her before, she had not bothered explaining herself much.

"No, could you listen to me first?" Eli was very cautious. He knew Hermione had always been stubborn and had her own ideas. If he opposed her rashly, he might hurt this strong yet sensitive girl.

"All right, go on." Hermione simply stared wide-eyed into Eli's eyes.

Harry had no idea how to interrupt. He also understood that this was absolutely not the time for him to speak.

After carefully organizing his thoughts, Eli could only try to make his words as gentle as possible. Meeting Hermione's gaze, he replied softly, "First of all, I support your idea of freeing the House-elves."

At those words, Hermione's expression immediately softened.

Seeing that it was working, Eli continued, "But you know, whatever you do, you need the right approach. If the method is wrong, it will only backfire."

"But no matter what, someone has to step forward and establish this organization!"

"I know, I know." Eli held Hermione's shoulders. "Yes, someone has to stand up and speak for the House-elves. But first, that person has to be accepted by the House-elves themselves."

As if she had heard something utterly absurd, Hermione turned her head with a cold laugh. "How could the House-elves possibly not support me? I'm raising their status!"

"Yes, raising their status would ultimately be good for them. They would support you eventually."
