Dumbledore put the ring away in his drawer, where a black diary pierced straight through from front to back was also stored.

Dumbledore and Eli chatted in the office for a while. Eli had thought he would be able to leave soon, but Dumbledore showed no intention of letting him go.

Just as Eli was wondering about it, Dumbledore waved his hand. The sound of a statue moving came from outside, followed shortly by a knock on the door.

Eli turned his head as well, wanting to see who had arrived.

The wooden door opened, revealing only a man in a neatly worn black suit. At first glance, Eli thought he was looking at a lion.

"Rufus, come in." Dumbledore called out to him.

Eli recognized the visitor too. It was Rufus Scrimgeour, the current acting Minister of Magic.

When Fudge was still in office, Scrimgeour had been the head of the Auror Office. He was well known for his sharp senses and hardline nature, and he handled matters with decisive efficiency.

Judging by his appearance alone, it was no wonder some people called him an irritable old lion behind his back.

Scrimgeour's eyes roved around the office. His gaze hardened slightly as he strode in with steady steps.

He walked straight to the desk and stopped. Eli brought him a chair, but Scrimgeour did not sit. He only looked at Dumbledore.

"Dumbledore, you know I'm not here for a casual chat." As he spoke, he cast a glance at Eli, who was craning his neck to look over.

Dumbledore smiled faintly. "Of course. I have no intention of wasting your time, either."
