When he returned to his courtyard and pushed open the door, Bibi Xu froze for a moment.

There was no lamp lit in the room. By the moonlight shining through the window, he could make out a small figure sitting on the chair by the window.

"Who's there?" Bibi Xu instinctively tensed, Soul Power surging through him at once.

"It's me."

A soft, slightly timid voice sounded.

Qian Renxue hopped down from the chair and patted the dust from her skirt. Her golden eyes gleamed in the night like they held starlight.

"Xiao Xue?" Bibi Xu relaxed, somewhat surprised. "Why are you here? It's so late. How did you get here?"

It was at least the middle of the night. The Worship Hall was heavily guarded. How had Qian Renxue, a six-year-old girl, slipped out by herself?

"I couldn't sleep." Qian Renxue walked up to him and lifted her chin with a hint of pride. "I slipped out through the small path behind the Worship Hall. None of the guards noticed me. I came to talk to you."

She had been too happy today.

She had awakened the Six-Winged Angel and Innate Rank Twenty Soul Power. Her grandfather and father had both praised her. Most importantly, her mother had not scolded her today and had even answered her with a "mm." As she spoke, she pulled a small wax-paper packet from her clothes and pushed it toward Bibi Xu. "This is for you. The Worship Hall kitchen made osmanthus cakes. They're really sweet. I secretly saved two pieces for you. Try them."

The paper packet was still slightly warm, clearly having been tucked against her body only moments ago.

Bibi Xu looked at the two delicate osmanthus cakes, feeling both amused and softhearted.
