Douluo Continent, southwest of the Heaven Dou Empire, Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
As the wealthiest of the Upper Three Sects, the Seven Treasure Council Hall was particularly solemn today.
All around the hall, pillars carved from whole pieces of lustrous white jade emitted a faint glow. At the very center, the monthly martial soul awakening ceremony was underway.
"Next, Gu En."
A voice as gentle as jade rang out. The speaker was Ning Fengzhi, Sect Master of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. He wore a pristine white robe and a jade crown, with a warm, springlike smile always resting on his lips.
Beside Ning Fengzhi sat two imposing figures, like mountains pressing down from above.
The man on the left had loose white hair and looked like a drawn sword. The sharp sword aura around him faintly distorted the air. He was Sword Douluo Chen Xin.
The man on the right was as gaunt as a skeleton, with deeply sunken eye sockets that gave him an eerie appearance. Yet his hollow eyes were currently filled with tension and anticipation. He was Bone Douluo Gu Rong.
"En'er, don't be afraid. Stand in the center of the formation," Gu Rong said, his voice hoarse but filled with undisguised affection.
Gu En took a deep breath and walked toward the six black awakening stones.
He was not native to this world, but a transmigrator. Having arrived here six years ago, he knew his identity well: the biological grandson of Bone Douluo Gu Rong, and the future guardian already chosen by the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
Beside him stood a little girl clutching the corner of her clothes, her large eyes fixed on him without blinking.
She was Ning Rongrong, the little princess of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and his nominal fiancée. Ning Rongrong had not yet gone to Shrek Academy. Though somewhat spoiled and willful, she was much more obedient around Gu En.
"Big Brother Gu En, good luck!" Ning Rongrong waved her tiny fist.
Gu En gave her a reassuring look and stepped into the formation.
Ning Fengzhi acted personally, gently pouring in his soul power. At once, pale golden light enveloped Gu En.
"Bzzz—!"
An extreme chill and sense of deathly stillness instantly erupted from Gu En's body.
The light in the originally spacious and bright hall seemed to be swallowed in an instant. Behind Gu En, space began to twist violently as enormous bones glowing with a ghastly white sheen tore through the air and rapidly reassembled overhead.
"Roar—!"
A desolate, mournful dragon roar resounded through the heavens.
A massive Bone Dragon phantom appeared. It had no flesh, its body formed entirely from crystalline white bones, while ghostly blue soul flames flickered within its eye sockets. Most bizarrely, rings of pitch-black spatial rifts surrounded its body.
"This is... a Bone Dragon martial soul!"
Joy appeared on Ning Fengzhi's face.
"With such intensity at awakening, he is destined for greatness. He will be able to protect our Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect for several more centuries."
"Hahahaha! Excellent! As expected of my grandson, Gu Rong's grandson!" Gu Rong abruptly rose to his feet and laughed loudly, so excited that every joint in his body cracked.
But at that moment, an unexpected change occurred!
Just as everyone believed the awakening was over, a piercing pain suddenly shot through Gu En's left palm.
A violent, bloodthirsty red aura, brimming with vitality yet incomparably dangerous, erupted from his left hand without warning.
"Crack—"
The white jade flooring beneath his feet shattered instantly. Dense blood-red light, almost tangible, shot into the sky and directly suppressed the Bone Dragon's ghostly blue radiance.
Above Gu En's left hand, a gigantic dragon phantom slowly emerged. Its entire body was dark crimson, covered in fine scales like rubies. Completely opposite to the Bone Dragon's deathly stillness, this dragon possessed an ultimate, violent beauty. Beneath every scale seemed to flow the scorching blood of a true dragon.
"This... what is this?" Sword Douluo Chen Xin suddenly gripped the Seven Killings Sword at his waist, his gaze as sharp as a blade. "Twin martial souls?!"
Ning Fengzhi's smile froze, replaced by endless shock.
Bone Dragon, Blood Dragon.
One death, one life; one defense, one offense.
Two utterly different true dragon pressures collided within the council hall, creating visible ripples of soul power.
Gu En felt as though his body was about to burst apart. He clenched his teeth and stared fixedly at the soul-testing crystal before him.
With trembling hands, Ning Fengzhi held the crystal ball out before Gu En.
The moment Gu En's hand touched the crystal, the originally transparent sphere was instantly dyed half black and half red. Its dazzling radiance was so bright that no one could keep their eyes open.
"Innately full soul power?" Ning Fengzhi took a deep breath, his voice slightly hoarse. "No... judging by the intensity of this light, it is probably more than level ten!"
"Heaven bless the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect!"
In a flash, Gu Rong appeared beside Gu En and pressed a large hand onto his shoulder. Tears streamed down his aged face. "Good grandson, my good grandson! From this day onward, let me see who still dares say that the Bone Dragon line has no successor!"
Ning Rongrong was already staring in a daze. She ran over and curiously tried to touch the Blood Dragon phantom above Gu En's left hand, only to be forced back a step by its violent aura.
Gu En withdrew his martial souls and panted heavily in exhaustion, feeling the endlessly surging power within his body.
On the night after the awakening ceremony, in a quiet courtyard on the back mountain of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect.
This was Gu Rong's residence and also the place where Gu En had lived since childhood.
At that moment, the stone table in the courtyard was filled with all kinds of exquisite soul beast meat dishes and rare fruits. Any one of them would have been enough to make a commoner soul master strive for a lifetime.
"Big Brother Gu En, look! I had Father specially take this Meridian-Nourishing Fruit from the treasure vault. It's the most beneficial thing for newly awakened soul veins."
Like a cheerful little magpie, Ning Rongrong circled around Gu En with a crystalline blue fruit in her hands, holding it up to his mouth as if presenting a treasure.
Six-year-old Ning Rongrong had skin as white as snow and lively, sparkling eyes. Though she already faintly showed signs of the future "Little Witch's" arrogance, before Gu En she displayed more dependence and pride.
Gu En smiled and took a bite. A cool stream of energy immediately flowed from his throat throughout his body, nourishing the meridians that had just awakened.
"Rongrong, weren't you scared during my awakening today?" Gu En teased.
Ning Rongrong's little face reddened. She gave a haughty snort and planted her hands on her hips. "Of course not! I was... I was impressed by how cool your second martial soul was! Big Brother Gu En, you're a genius with twin martial souls now, so you have to protect me. Otherwise, I'll have Grandpa Sword skin you!"
"Only Grandpa Sword? My grandfather would never bear to do it." Gu En looked toward the courtyard entrance.
Space twisted slightly, and Gu Rong's tall yet somewhat gloomy figure appeared out of thin air. But his face was full of a kind smile. "Haha, Rongrong is right. En'er, your status is no longer what it used to be.
"From today onward, aside from the forbidden grounds, you may come and go freely within the sect. All cultivation resources will be supplied to you as a priority."
