Entangled Relentlessly

Chapter Forty-Nine

6:18 p.m.

Glancing at the time, Ye Nanxun closed his laptop, leaned back against his chair, and shut his eyes as he recalled the storyline involving Zhu Shixin and Xu Wenyan.

Zhu Shixin was arrogant, overbearing, hot-tempered, and domineering. At first, he had merely thought Xu Wenyan was pretty and treated him like a toy to tease and play with, never taking him seriously.

Later, Zhu Shixin caused such serious trouble that his father whipped him and sent him to the hospital. Xu Wenyan cared for him gently at his bedside, reminding Zhu Shixin of his mother, who had died young. Though he still spoke harshly to Xu Wenyan, that was when he truly developed feelings for him.

Xu Wenyan currently had little contact with him. Ye Nanxun had heard from He Lanxue that Xu Wenyan was busy trying to discover the identity of the omega who had danced with His Majesty on New Year's Eve.

Besides that, He Yiming would soon leave with his father for official business on the frontier planets.

Jiang Ying had been on other planets during this time.

Ye Zhineng had sent Ye Nanxun some apologetic messages that day. Ye Nanxun had ignored them, and there had been no news since. He was probably keeping a low profile for the time being, like everyone else.

No matter how he thought about it, Ye Nanxun could not figure out why Zhu Shixin had suddenly come looking for him.

That impatient, hot-tempered young master could not possibly have actually waited in the car for him all day.

Unable to find him during the day, he had probably left long ago by now.

After packing up and leaving the laboratory, Ye Nanxun found that it was already pitch-black outside, though it was not yet seven. Without paying attention to his surroundings, he opened his umbrella and headed toward the parking lot.

He had only taken a few steps when a car suddenly sped up from behind and screeched to a stop beside him.

Its wheels rolled through a puddle that had collected rainwater all day, splashing a sheet of filthy water into the air.

Ye Nanxun stopped and looked down at his pants and clothes, now soaked with dirty water. Little Yellow Dog barked furiously from inside his backpack, its tiny paws scratching against the bag with soft rustling sounds.

Zhu Shixin pushed open the rear door and slapped the seat beside him hard, looking every bit the cool tough guy. "Get in. I'll take you home."

Ye Nanxun said nothing. A steadily growing, irritated fury gathered between his cold brows.

Seeing Ye Nanxun stare at him warily, Zhu Shixin clicked his tongue, his face full of impatience. "I waited for you all day. Get in already. I won't hit you, okay?"

"Okay? That's what I should be asking you." Ye Nanxun lowered his gaze to his clothes again, the coldness in his eyes deepening.

Only then did Zhu Shixin notice the several wet streaks now staining Ye Nanxun's formerly clean, light-colored clothes. He froze for a moment without speaking.

"How the fuck do you drive?!" Zhu Shixin raised a hand and smacked the young man driving the car on the head.

"Brother Zhu, didn't you tell me to drive faster—ow!" He got hit again.

"Shut up, you fucking idiot! I've never seen anyone as stupid as you!"

Zhu Shixin got out of the car. Watching that tall, slender figure move farther away, he did not even bother taking an umbrella before breaking into a run after Ye Nanxun.

Rain fell over his head, face, and body, cool against his skin. Yet as the distance between them gradually closed, Zhu Shixin felt more vividly alive and happier than he had at any other moment.

The figure beneath the umbrella was tall and beautiful. Unlike Xu Wenyan's small, slender frame, the omega before him had broad shoulders and a narrow waist, healthy and full of vitality. The skin exposed outside his clothes was fair and lustrous, his complexion excellent, smooth and radiant like white jade.

"I wasn't driving. I didn't mean to get your clothes dirty. I already beat that guy up."

Sticking to him like a stubborn leech, Zhu Shixin followed behind the black umbrella. He had waited for Ye Nanxun for two whole days and had been holding in a bellyful of anger, but for some inexplicable reason, he was not angry at all now.

Ye Nanxun did not stop walking.

"Hey, Ye Nanxun, I'm talking to you!"

He was still a young master accustomed to being fawned over. Just moments ago, he had found chasing after Ye Nanxun amusing, but after only a few steps without getting a response, he instantly reverted to form, and Zhu Shixin's temper began to flare again.

Ye Nanxun halted and turned to look at the alpha behind him, drenched from head to toe.

There was confusion in his heart, doubt in his eyes, but above all, vigilance.

Compared to those other guys, Zhu Shixin did not have so many twists and turns in his mind. Whenever he disliked someone, he always made it obvious.

If he wanted to ram into someone, he did. If he wanted to curse, he cursed. If he wanted to fight, he fought.

Just like when they had first met in this life: merely because Ye Nanxun was surnamed Ye, Zhu Shixin had openly shown hostility despite not knowing him at all, deliberately slamming into his shoulder.

He was unapologetically bad, purely vicious.

Ye Nanxun's brows drew together slightly. "What do you want?"

Zhu Shixin choked, then raised a hand to wipe rainwater from his face. "I... I'm taking you home."

A scoff escaped Ye Nanxun's lips. "Do I look like an idiot?"

"What do you mean?"

"If I get in your car, who knows where you'll take me?" Ye Nanxun looked at Zhu Shixin's ignorant expression, anger churning in his chest as he said in a low voice, "If someone who had targeted you again and again invited you into his car, would you get in?"

After saying that, Ye Nanxun turned and walked away.

"Hey, Ye Nanxun, stop! Before... before was before, and now is now. I, Zhu Shixin, am not some scheming bastard. If I wanted to deal with you, would I need to wait for you at school for two days?"

Zhu Shixin had his own domineering logic, and Ye Nanxun had no intention of trying to understand it.

As he drew closer and closer to his car, Ye Nanxun looked back and said coldly, "Stop following me."

Zhu Shixin ignored him and continued after him. If Ye Nanxun would not get in his car, then he could get in Ye Nanxun's car, right?

Before he could take more than two steps, the little yellow mutt in the omega's backpack poked its head out and barked furiously at the alpha.

For several inexplicable seconds, Zhu Shixin's mind went blank. He stood there as though his soul had been sucked out of him. By the time he came back to himself, Ye Nanxun had already gotten into his car and driven away, leaving not even exhaust fumes behind.

"Fuck!"

Zhu Shixin raised a hand and roughly raked through his dripping wet hair. Why had he suddenly blanked out just now?

Simple-minded as he was, the alpha did not think too deeply about it.

After using a tissue to wipe the water stains from his clothes, Ye Nanxun got into the car, and his expression finally improved somewhat.

He gently stroked Little Dragon's head in comfort, then lowered his head to send Yan Beiyou a message.

Little Mushroom: Mr. Yan, I've arrived at your apartment.

The car drove into the aerial parking garage of the spacious flat. Ye Nanxun slung the pet backpack over his shoulders and tucked Mushroom Egg securely away.

Two pairs of slippers in matching colors stood at the entrance to the garage. One pair was slightly larger and simply styled.

The other pair was slightly smaller, fluffy, and looked very warm.

Bending down to remove his rain boots, Ye Nanxun stepped into the fluffy slippers and entered the apartment. The motion-sensor lights illuminated the whole place, and soothing, beautiful music began to play at the same time.

The apartment was empty. Ye Nanxun looked down at his dirty clothes, set the backpack on the sofa, and Little Dragon climbed out, happily running around the rooms.

Holding Mushroom Egg, Ye Nanxun went to the guest room and peeked into the bathroom. Beside the large bathtub that had lacked body wash and shampoo last time, brand-new bottles of bath products had now been placed.
