6:18 p.m.

Glancing at the time, Ye Nanxun closed his laptop, leaned back against his chair, and shut his eyes as he recalled the storyline between Zhu Shixin and Xu Wenyan.

Zhu Shixin had an arrogant, overbearing personality and a violent temper. At first, he had merely thought Xu Wenyan was pretty and treated him like a toy to tease and play with, never truly taking him to heart.

Later, Zhu Shixin caused such a huge mess that his father had him whipped and hospitalized. Xu Wenyan cared for him gently at his side, reminding Zhu Shixin of his mother, who had died young. Though he still spoke harshly to Xu Wenyan, from that time onward, he had developed real feelings for him.

Xu Wenyan currently had little contact with him. He had heard that Xu Wenyan was busy searching for the identity of the omega who had danced with His Majesty on New Year's Eve. Ye Nanxun had heard this from He Lanxue.

Besides that, He Yiming was about to leave with his father for work on the frontier planets.

Jiang Ying had been on other planets during this time.

Ye Zhineng had sent Ye Nanxun some apologetic messages that day. Ye Nanxun had ignored them, and there had been no news afterward. He was likely keeping a low profile for the time being, just like everyone else.

No matter how he thought about it, Ye Nanxun could not understand why Zhu Shixin had suddenly come looking for him.

That impatient, hot-tempered young master could not possibly have waited in his car for him all day.

Since he had failed to see him during the day, he had probably left long ago by now.

After packing up and leaving the laboratory, Ye Nanxun found that it was already pitch-black outside, though it was not yet seven. Without paying attention to his surroundings, he opened his umbrella and headed toward the parking lot.

He had only taken a few steps when a car suddenly sped up from behind and screeched to a stop beside him.

Its tires rolled over a puddle filled with rainwater accumulated throughout the day, splashing up a sheet of filthy water.

Ye Nanxun stopped and looked down at his pants and clothes, now dampened by dirty water. The little yellow dog in his backpack began barking, its tiny paws scratching against the inside with soft scraping sounds.

Zhu Shixin pushed open the rear door and heavily patted the seat beside him, striking a cool pose. "Get in. I'll take you home."

Ye Nanxun said nothing. A steadily mounting irritation brewed beneath his cold expression.

Seeing Ye Nanxun stare at him warily, Zhu Shixin clicked his tongue, his face full of impatience. "I waited for you all day. Get in already. I won't hit you, all right?"

"All right? That's what I should be asking you." Ye Nanxun lowered his gaze to inspect his clothes and pants again, the chill in his eyes growing deeper.

Only then did Zhu Shixin notice the several wet streaks on Ye Nanxun's formerly clean, light-colored clothes. He froze for a moment, unable to speak.

"How the fuck do you drive?!" Zhu Shixin raised his hand and smacked the young man in the driver's seat on the head.

"Brother Zhu, weren't you the one who told me to drive faster—ow!" He got hit again.

"Shut up, you idiot! I've never seen anyone as stupid as you!"

Getting out of the car, Zhu Shixin watched the tall, slender figure gradually walk away. Not bothering to grab an umbrella, he broke into a run after Ye Nanxun.

Rain fell over his head, face, and body, cool against his skin. Yet as the distance between them steadily narrowed, Zhu Shixin felt more alive and happier than he had at any other moment.

The figure beneath the umbrella was tall and beautiful. Unlike Xu Wenyan's small, slender frame, this omega had broad shoulders and a slim waist, healthy and full of vitality. The skin exposed beyond his clothing was fair and lustrous, his complexion excellent, smooth and radiant like white jade.

"I wasn't driving. I didn't mean to get your clothes dirty. I already beat that guy up just now."

Clinging to him like a stubborn piece of adhesive plaster, Zhu Shixin followed behind the black umbrella. Though he had waited for Ye Nanxun for two full days, his heart brimming with pent-up anger, he inexplicably was not angry at all now.

Ye Nanxun did not stop walking.

"Hey, Ye Nanxun, I'm talking to you!"

He was, after all, a young master accustomed to being fawned over. Just moments ago, Zhu Shixin had found chasing after Ye Nanxun amusing, but after only a few steps without receiving a response, he instantly reverted to his usual self, and his irritable temper began to rise again.

Ye Nanxun paused and turned to look at the alpha behind him, drenched from head to toe.

There was confusion in his heart and doubt in his eyes, but more than anything, there was caution.

Compared with the other few, Zhu Shixin's mind had fewer twists and turns. Whenever he disliked someone, he had always made it obvious.

Ye Nanxun's brows drew together slightly. "What do you want?"

Zhu Shixin choked, then raised a hand to wipe the rain from his face. "I... I'm taking you home."

A scoff slipped from Ye Nanxun's lips. "Do I look like an idiot to you?"

"What do you mean?"

"If I get into your car, who knows where you'll take me?" Ye Nanxun looked at Zhu Shixin's clueless expression, anger churning in his chest as he said in a low voice, "If someone who had targeted you again and again invited you into his car, would you get in?"

After saying that, Ye Nanxun turned and walked away.

"Hey, Ye Nanxun, stop! Before... before was before, and now is now. I, Zhu Shixin, am no scheming villain. If I wanted to deal with you, would I need to wait for you at school for two days?"

Zhu Shixin had his own set of domineering logic, and Ye Nanxun had no intention of trying to understand it.

As he drew closer and closer to his car, Ye Nanxun looked back and said coldly, "Stop following me."

Zhu Shixin ignored him and continued after him. If Ye Nanxun would not get into his car, then he could get into Ye Nanxun's car, right?

Before he had even taken two steps, the little yellow mutt in the omega's backpack poked its head out and burst into a string of barks at the alpha.

For several seconds, Zhu Shixin's mind went inexplicably blank. He stood rooted to the spot as though his soul had been knocked out of him. By the time he came back to himself, Ye Nanxun had already gotten into his car and driven away, leaving not even exhaust fumes in sight.

"Fuck!"

Zhu Shixin raised a hand and vigorously clawed at his soaking-wet hair. Why had he suddenly spaced out like that?

The simple-minded alpha did not think any further about it.

After taking a tissue and wiping the water stains from his clothes, Ye Nanxun's expression finally improved somewhat once he got into the car.

He gently stroked Little Dragon's head in a soothing gesture, then lowered his head and sent Yan Beiyou a message.

Little Mushroom: Mr. Yan, I've arrived at your apartment.

The car drove into the aerial parking garage of the large flat. Ye Nanxun slung the pet carrier onto his back and tucked Mushroom Egg securely away.

Two pairs of slippers in matching colors sat by the garage entrance. One pair was slightly larger and simply designed.

The other pair was slightly smaller, fluffy, and looked very warm.

Bending down to take off his rain boots, Ye Nanxun stepped into the fluffy slippers and entered the apartment. The motion-sensor lights illuminated the entire place, while soothing, beautiful music began playing at the same time.

There was no one in the apartment. Ye Nanxun looked down at his dirty clothes and pants, set his backpack on the sofa, and Little Dragon climbed out, happily racing around the rooms.

Carrying Mushroom Egg into the guest room, Ye Nanxun leaned in to glance into the bathroom. Beside the large bathtub, which had lacked body wash and shampoo last time, brand-new bath products had now been placed.
