Background / History

Liang Jingtang trained, played, and undertook missions alongside Qiu Zhiheng in their youth. Three years Qiu's senior, he regarded him as a deeply valued friend; the two were separated when Qiu fled Li City after offending a Shi Family descendant. 13

By the time Xia Daoming reached Li City, Liang was the stern master of the Hidden Dragon Martial Arts School and a veteran Sixth-Rank Great Martial Master. Though he judged Xia's displayed talent and late progress as ordinary, Qiu's death and Xia's determination to avenge him persuaded Liang to offer him a chance at formal discipleship. 13 14

Liang reduced Xia's tuition from five thousand to three thousand taels because of his relationship with Qiu, but required a Pledge of Allegiance and imposed strict limits on access to the school's Mysterious Divine Rhyme Diagram. After Xia presented Wu Changlu's head as his token, Liang accepted him as a personal disciple and personally taught him the foundations for Great Martial Master cultivation. 14 15

He places great value on loyalty and righteousness. Xia's willingness to avenge Qiu Zhiheng earns his admiration, while his response to Gu Ren's crippling and Liu Xiaoqiang's humiliation shows that he will defend his school even when doing so risks conflict with stronger factions. 14 19 27

Liang is also self-aware about his age and limitations. He repeatedly tries to keep his disciples from accompanying him into the Vast Mountain Range, believing the school needs successors more than it needs an aging master to survive. 34 37

Defending the Hidden Dragon Martial Arts School

The crippling of Gu Ren and the harassment of Liu Xiaoqiang expose the school's vulnerability amid Li City's factional conflict. Liang confronts Shi Yingdeng and makes him take three punches rather than allow the insult to pass unanswered. 19 27

Vast Mountain Range Expedition

Forced by the Xu Family's summons order to hunt Ice Rabbits and gather Ice-Cold Purple Ganoderma, Liang initially intends to go alone to protect his disciples. Xia insists on accompanying him, ultimately saving Liang repeatedly from the expedition's dangers. 35 40 41

After Xu Zhiji treats them as expendable scouts, Liang joins Xia's plan to ambush Xu Zhiji and Xu Shisen. He restrains Xu Shisen while Xia kills both Xu Family members, then keeps watch while Xia uses the Golden Crow Returning Origin Soup to advance. 44 45 46

Passing on His Legacy

Following Xia's rise, Liang entrusts him with the secret diagram ahead of schedule and effectively regards him as successor to the Hidden Dragon Martial Arts School. 36 48
