Background / History

The Elucidation Sect is a Saint’s great sect whose Twelve Golden Immortals are regarded as among the eventual victors of the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. Within Blue Star’s Secret Realm selection system, it is considered a dangerous but highly rewarding route: its historical mortality rate is close to 40%, but survivors commonly gain greater opportunities than entrants to the Human Sect. Most of Lin Yuan’s class chooses it for this balance of risk and reward 1.

During the Shang–Zhou conflict, the sect supports West Qi and repeatedly sends Qi Refiners and Immortals into the war. Its intervention against the Intercepting Sect turns local disputes—such as Nezha’s near-fatal shooting of Biyun—into a wider factional confrontation 4 11 12.

The sect initially relies on its superior cultivation, individual magical treasures, formation-breaking tools, and ambushes to suppress Intercepting Sect forces. However, Lin Yuan’s repeated interventions prevent the expected deaths of Shiji, the Four Sages of Nine-Dragon Island, the Ten Heavenly Lords, Zhao Gongming, and others, forcing the Elucidation Sect to continually revise its methods 13 24 26 41.

Jade Clarity Arts

The sect’s Golden Immortals employ Jade Clarity Immortal Light as both defense and offense. A second-generation disciple withstands the Heaven-Absolute Formation’s lightning with Jade Clarity Immortal Light, while several Golden Immortals combine their Daoist arts during large-scale assaults 24 27.

Formation Analysis and Countermeasures

The Elucidation Sect studies enemy formations before committing its strongest members.

• West Qi cultivators first probe the Ten Ultimate Formation with treasures tailored to individual formations, including tools against lightning, wind, and ice 23.
• Formation-revealing treasures allow the sect to identify Formation Eyes and power routes, though Lin Yuan’s revisions make those observations rapidly obsolete 24 26.
• A Formation-Breaking Ring is used to block the central channels of the linked Ten Ultimate Formation, but newly installed side routes allow Zhao Jiang to escape 25.
• After repeated failures against individual formations, Guangchengzi concludes that the entire set must be assaulted at once 26 27.

Treasures and Direct Suppression

The sect does not rely on formations alone.

• Heaven-Flipping Seal — Guangchengzi’s overwhelming treasure. It destroys a mountain with one missed strike and is later used through concealed spatial positioning to target Holy Mother Huo Ling and Lin Yuan 70 71.
• Jade mirror — Used by an Elucidation Sect Daoist to expose hidden formation patterns and identify crucial nodes in the Heaven-Absolute Formation 24.
• Formation-disrupting talismans — Slow or sever the transfer of specialized power between the Ten Ultimate Formations 23.

Sect Outlook

Yuanshi emphasizes order, hierarchy, and preserving the Elucidation Sect’s inheritance. Tongtian characterizes the philosophical divide between them more bluntly: Yuanshi objects when the Twelve Golden Immortals suffer severe losses, while Tongtian maintains that disciples who voluntarily enter a formation must accept victory or defeat 46.

The sect’s representatives frequently invoke ordained fate and Heaven’s order when criticizing Intercepting Sect involvement in the Shang–Zhou war. Zhao Gongming challenges this position by noting that the Elucidation Sect had already sent its own disciples into the conflict 30.

Nine-Twist Yellow River Formation	The Twelve Golden Immortals enter Yunxiao’s formation and suffer severe losses to their Three Flowers and Five Qi. Yuanshi personally descends, but Tongtian’s arrival prevents further intervention and forces the Elucidation Sect to withdraw 41 43 45 46.
Dragon-Severing Ridge	Yun Zhongzi maintains the concealed fire formation intended to claim Wen Zhong. Lin Yuan dismantles its hidden locks and rejects Yun Zhongzi’s claim that Wen Zhong’s death is fixed 65 66.

• Intercepting Sect — Principal rival during the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. Their conflict intensifies from disputes between disciples into confrontations involving both Yuanshi and Tongtian 4 43 46.
• West Qi — Receives Elucidation Sect support against Great Shang; the sect’s disciples and Qi Refiners repeatedly enter West Qi’s military campaigns 11 12.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Reversal of Expected Victories

The Elucidation Sect begins the calamity with the historical advantage: it is associated with the eventual victors, while the Intercepting Sect is expected to be destroyed. Lin Yuan’s survival-focused strategy steadily undermines that expectation by preventing the deaths that would normally draw further Intercepting Sect disciples into the conflict 1 39 50.

By the time of the Nine-Twist Yellow River Formation, Taiyi directly associates Lin Yuan with a string of Elucidation Sect setbacks: Shiji survives, the Four Sages survive, the Ten Heavenly Lords survive, and Zhao Gongming survives after reclaiming the Treasure-Dropping Coin 41.

Response to Historical Deviation

The sect increasingly recognizes Lin Yuan as the source of abnormal developments. Yun Zhongzi states that Lin Yuan’s rescue of the Ten Heavenly Lords, Zhao Gongming, the Three Cloud Sisters, and the Four Demon Generals has shifted the momentum of the calamity itself 66.

On Blue Star, the growing number of altered events linked to Elucidation Sect defeats and Intercepting Sect survivals raises the Historical Deviation Rate to 23.8%. Chen Yue, who chose the Elucidation Sect, becomes unsettled by Lin Yuan’s rise and by the possibility that the supposedly doomed Intercepting Sect route has become the more successful choice 59.

Current Position

As of the confrontation at Jiepai Pass, the Elucidation Sect remains an active and dangerous force. Guangchengzi has shifted from targeting Holy Mother Huo Ling to directly attacking Lin Yuan with the Heaven-Flipping Seal after Lin Yuan repeatedly exposes his tactics 71.
